then got really boring |

06.09.14 | i dunno why people dislike Walking Dead season 2 'cause I think it's the bomb
season 3 fucking sucks tho |
Deviant.
06.09.14 | I will always love Mad Men, but that show really is all about the slow burn. Definitely stick with
Hannibal. Had they stuck with convention and delivered another formulaic "serial killer of the week"
format I would've given up. But it is honestly one of the most well-written (well, 99% of the time),
suspenseful and beautifully shot shows on television |
evilford
06.09.14 | the walking dead rules. season two was kind of slow in parts but it didn't have the governor so win. season three was still pretty good despite the governor |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | The Walking Dead has some of the worst dialogue and acting I've ever seen on TV.
Don't really understand how anyone likes Chevy Chase, but Community was cool for a couple of seasons. |
evilford
06.09.14 | "The Walking Dead has some of the worst dialogue and acting I've ever seen on TV."
you must not have seen too much TV then |
Deviant.
06.09.14 | Honestly, the dialogue isn't the greatest. It's just bound by all the cliches associated with zombies/end of the world scenarios |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | I wish I could say I haven't wasted too much time watching TV shows, but that would be a lie.
I guess I should revise that statement to say the worst acting I've ever seen in a show that I watched at least a season of. |
evilford
06.09.14 | oh I know it could be better, lots of things could be better. but I like it specifically because it doesn't fall into zombie/end of the world cliches. |

06.09.14 | 3 and 4 are great. I've been told 1 is great. Dont bother with the rest. |

06.09.14 | Agreed on 5. I'm so sick of zombies. They were cool like 5 years ago, but then so many damn zombie themed things came
out it's like ENOUGH. Haven't really tried the other 4 on this list.
I mainly find myself watching a lot of HBO shows. So much better. |
Curse.
06.09.14 | Walking Dead is just such a snooze, and there aren't really any likable characters so you just wait for everyone to finally die |
Curse.
06.09.14 | Hannibal is fucking amazing though |

06.09.14 | Vampires have been bled dry too. If one more classic monster is ruined by modern excess...I'll piss and moan about it. |

06.09.14 | hannibal's character in general has been exploited way worse than zombies over the last 20 years |
evilford
06.09.14 | "I guess I should revise that statement to say the worst acting I've ever seen in a show that I watched at least a season of."
guess I don't understand this. every show has it's fair share of less-than-stellar actors and TWD is no different. but overall, I think the acting is pretty solid.
I really don't understand all the negativity towards TWD. it's not supposed to be like resident evil or whatever; not supposed to be a zombie hack-a-thon. in that kind of environment, the goal is to AVOID conflict because you will always be outnumbered. not to throw unnecessary conflict into the show for the sake of entertaining people with short attention spans. |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | I don't expect a hack-a-thon show, I want a show that explores human nature and relationships in the face of extinction. I believe that is what the comic's purpose is, and it seems the show was striving for that theme as well, but it's really hard to care about any of the relationships and the mindset of characters when the performances are so wooden. I have absolutely no connection to the characters, and give no fuck when a character dies.
Sure, every show has a few underwhelming actors/actresses, but that is every person on the cast of the Walking Dead to me. I like Daryl, but I'm pretty sure it's mostly from Boondock Saints nostalgia. I stopped at the midseason break for season 3. |
Duckman118
06.09.14 | All the negativity towards TWD started to happen the second it became mainstream. And considering that the internet consists of mostly hipsters, they consistently shit on the show just because everyone else likes it |
Wafflez
06.09.14 | Watch 1 and 2, you aren't really missing out on much with the rest. |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | @Duckman118 that is asinine.
Breaking Bad
|
Wafflez
06.09.14 | Also Duckman, people are only vocal with their discontentment if something is reasonable popular. No
one would go out of their way to say Walking dead was a bad show if nobody had ever even heard of it.
Stop calling everyone who disagrees with you a hipster. |
evilford
06.09.14 | I guess it just comes down to people's opinions on the actors' performances. I can think of tons of more popular or more highly-regarded shows with overall acting performances that are not as good.
also it's an interesting phenomenon when an existing story is ported to another medium. there will always be a dedicated group of people who prefer the source material and the story in the new medium will be shit to them no matter what anyone does. |
DikkoZinner
06.09.14 | "the first season of Walking Dead is the only one worth a fiddler's fuck"
No doubt. That 1st episode was something special. No way it could have continued at that level. |
scottpilgrim10
06.09.14 | The first few episodes of community are rough but after that it's smooth sailing. |
Curse.
06.09.14 | TWD's best episode was definitely that first one. |
evilford
06.09.14 | in other words, the mere existence of the source material is often used to discredit anything the new medium does. I can't even count how many times I see people talking shit about the show and the sole piece of evidence they site for the show's failure is just the fact that there is a comic.
|
evilford
06.09.14 | the pilot is definitely one of the best episodes but not the best |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | If you're referring to me, you only saw me mention the comics and didn't read anything else from my post. I made no mention of which medium I preferred, just that the comic and the show seem to strive for the same overall theme. I don't really care about the source material when it comes to tv/movies. |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | Was trying to engage in civil discourse, but if that was actually directed toward me, you're dumb. |
evilford
06.09.14 | that wasn't directed at you, that was a general sentiment directed at the vast majority of criticisms I've seen against TWD
"I guess it just comes down to people's opinions on the actors' performances. I can think of tons of more popular or more highly-regarded shows with overall acting performances that are not as good."
this is what I was replying to you with |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | Gotcha. Sorry, went into auto-defensive mode. I find those people annoying, didn't want to be associated with that kind of behaviour. |
evilford
06.09.14 | @ coolcalmjoe - no you're good lol. that was probably me going into auto-defensive mode, idk. I get so used to seeing the complaint against TWD (show) being the fact that it differs from the comic that I automatically start fighting that.
at least you can provide a concrete reason for not liking it |
tempest--
06.09.14 | Mad Men is worth watching for Draper's speech in The Wheel
and Community is fantastic but I think it's one of those shows that you either love passionately or are just not into it so ¯_(ツ)_/¯ |
danielcardoso
06.09.14 | 5 sucks so much now.
But 1 and 4 are really cool. |
evilford
06.09.14 | TWD season 4 was probably my least favorite but I think they're setting themselves up for a really good 5th season |
GuanoBumbershoot
06.09.14 | "it's not supposed to be like resident evil or whatever; not supposed to be a zombie hack-a-thon"
It's the The Last of Us of TV/film zombie entertainment, and it's all the better for it. I don't watch the show anymore because my interest decreased rapidly over the 2nd and 3rd seasons. There is far worse collective acting on television, and I think they've done an acceptable job at focusing on human nature/relationships in the face of extinction, regardless of how you feel about the characters. It would probably be hard to truly like anyone under those circumstances. |
FearThyEvil
06.09.14 | 5 sucks but 1 and 2 are great |
evilford
06.09.14 | @ guano - that's very reasonable.
also I think this is one point the show tries to make constantly: "It would probably be hard to truly like anyone under those circumstances." I think that's a central theme and everyone at one point or another does stuff we wouldn't normally accept, for the purpose of survival. plus it would be hard to go through something like that and come out of it without being an insane asshole. I think the characters are likeable enough but the point I see them making is that the human race is really fragile and in order to survive really serious shit like that, everyone is inevitably going to do something that will make them unlikeable. either that or they'll wind up dead. the show also ponders which of those is worse, which I appreciate too. |
evilford
06.09.14 | "which of those is worse", as in survival at any cost, or maintaining some morality and humanity in the face of death |
GuanoBumbershoot
06.09.14 | evilford, that comment of yours is exactly how I looked at it. To a fucking T. |
demigod!
06.09.14 | Mad Men is so good man. only show here that's really great all the way through |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | Don't want to keep on my acting bash, but just curious as to what shows ya'll are referring to when you say you've seen worst acting, just so I have a point of comparison for self-reflection regarding my TV taste. |
evilford
06.09.14 | @ coolcalmjoe - I don't think my point is in naming which specific shows have worse acting, just that saying that TWD has "some of the worst dialogue and acting I've ever seen on TV" is a HUGE stretch to me. there are weaknesses in acting on the show compared with other highly acclaimed shows on average, sure, but there are characters who have really strong actors too and just in flipping through channels I can find tons of shows with worse acting and dialogue. I guess for starters, pretty much every csi, ncis or law and order show or spinoff |
evilford
06.09.14 | and a lot of this just comes down to preferences and opinions, and the dialogue is one of the aspects of the show I love, so I don't know that I can really give "proof" to my point (or you to yours for that matter) other than saying I disagree |
CoolCalmJoe
06.09.14 | Werd, I was just curious. I get a bit of tunnel vision when bashing TWD, and this probably reflects a more accurate opinion of the show, "there are weaknesses in acting on the show compared with other highly acclaimed shows on average". Adderall, man.
