The Day I Went To Warped Tour
Since everyone else seems to be doing it, I'm chiming in with my day at warped |
1 | | The Devil Wears Prada 8:18
NEUTRAL: THE CROWDS-Being my first year at warped I wasn't sure what to expect. I went to the main stage early so I could get to the front for TSSF, and that included suffering through the pit for the devil wears prada. I'm a wuss so complaining about the mosh pits and crowd surfing is stupid, but for some reason I though people would "behave."
regardless, the crowds varied with each band so I still enjoyed myself. |
2 | | The Story So Far Under Soil And Dirt
POSITIVE: THE STORY SO FAR- These guys put on an excellent show, I was familiar with their debut and some other singles but didn't know what to expect. Parker was really engaging with the crowd, and even tossed the mic out to us so we could all sing some lines. Well worth getting kicked in the face by crowd surfers |
3 | | Mayday Parade Mayday Parade
POSITIVE: MAYDAY PARADE- watching them play was nice. All the band members seemed very happy to be playing, and they sounded great, even when substituting guitars for the piano intro to "oh well oh well." Only issue was that security for some reason needed more barriers in the pit before they went on, so set times for the main stage were pushed back about 12 minutes. This problem comes into play later. |
4 | | Of Monsters and Men My Head is an Animal
NEGATIVE: MONSTER ENERGY- Brostep talked about this as well, but monster energy and their advertising annoyed me throughout the entire day. What got to me the most was that the bands were given water that was in monster cans, and while I can understand why that was done, it doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. I feel like having an entire stage named after your company should be good enough. |
5 | | Courage My Love Becoming
POSITIVE: COURAGE MY LOVE- I was waiting with my friend for CNCC to play, and we got to their stage early enough to see Courage My Love. I was surprised by the band; they were only a three-piece but they sounded solid. Bassist couldn't scream hardly any but I didn't care. |
6 | | Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! Pardon My French
POSITIVE: C!NCC! SOUND GOOD LIVE- In all honesty, I wanted to see this band because I thought they were gonna suck live. I've heard their music and it's production made me wonder how they could replicate their sound in a concert environment. They cheated a little (I could tell there was some sort of effect going through for the drummer's kick pedal), but overall CNCC did a very good job at doing what they do. |
7 | | Real Friends Put Yourself Back Together
POSITIVE: REAL FRIENDS- One of my friends I was with really wanted to see these guys so I listened to their stuff well ahead of time. I wasn't as big of a fan as my friend was but I was impressed with their show. Besides Derek of Mayday Parade, I have never seen a guy who is singing about heartbreak look as happy as Dan from RF. |
8 | | Watsky Cardboard Castles
POSITIVE: WATSKY- Been a fan of watsky for the past year, so seeing him on warped tour was a big highlight of my day. Me and my friends were leaving later that day, and as we walked by his merch tent we saw that he was there meeting fans. I had my picture taken with the watsky, and my other friend (who sees the man as an inspiration for his writing) had watsky sign his sketchbook. To add some "flair," The guy also did a rough sketch of my friend, and it was beautiful. |
9 | | Falling in Reverse Fashionably Late
NEGATIVE: DELAYED SET TIMES- Time had passed in the day and I forgot about the set times being delayed on the main stage from earlier. This caused me to not only miss the later half of Watsky's set (I left early thinking Yellowcard was going to be starting), but I also had the displeasure of having to sit through the the last half of Falling in Reverse's set. |
10 | | Yellowcard Southern Air
POSITIVE: YELOWCARD- Yellowcard recently had to replace their old drummer with the drummer for Anberlin, and I was worried that losing LP was going to translate into their performance. I was wrong; the new guy, while not at the same level as LP, was able to carry the band and deliver a lot of energy to the music. Yellowcard was definitely the biggest highlight of the day. |
11 | | We Are The In Crowd Weird Kids
NEUTRAL: WE ARE THE IN CROWD- WATIC was actually one of the main reasons I bought my warped tour ticket; I'm a big fan of the band and they're never in Cincinnati, so I was excited to check them out. And yet, even after going to their signing, I felt a little disappointed when it came time for them to play. It seemed like Tay and Jordan's voices were shot, and while the rest of the band played great, I couldn't get over their vocals. Maybe it's because I had to leave YC to catch them, but something felt missing at their show. |
12 | | Band Album
Overall, an enjoyable day. Depending on who's playing next year, I may feel compelled to go again. |
