| 10 Good Artists/bands That Got Horribly Shite: Exhibit A
As it says on the tin, artists/bands that used to be good and the albums that heralded their fall into shitedom by means of ill-advised experimentation/ lineup changes/ selling out. Purely my opinion, which makes it true. | 10 | | The Offspring Americana
Yep, believe it or not, The Offspring used to make some pretty cool music. However, everything after the nineties is just an exercise in mediocrity. Avoid that shite and blare some 'Ignition' or 'Ixnay' | 9 | | Linkin Park Minutes To Midnight
Okay, yeah, sure one can make the argument that Linkin Park were never actually good but I rubbish those claims. Tosh! Poppycock! When LP decided to embrace a more alternative rock direction with 2007's 'MtM', it also saw the decrease in memorable hooks or decent tunes that were present on their 2000 debut and 2003 followup. They've recently found their groove again but they've certainly had some lean years (though not in terms of sales). | 8 | | Green Day Nimrod
Putting almost all of their classic punk roots aside, Green Day embraced a more... just generally shite direction. 2004's 'American Idiot' being a notable exception, nothing they have made after the mid-nineties has been any good. | 7 | | Fall Out Boy From Under The Cork Tree
Whoa, whoa now, put away the pitchforks and hear me out! FOB started as a pretty decent post-hardcore-pop-punk band, 'Take This To Your Grave' being a pretty sweet album. But when they dropped the hardcore influences and stuck to the sugar coated money-makers, they became reviled as much as loved. That said, Patrick Stump is still a pretty incredible singer and every other member of the band whose name isn't Pete Wentz is pretty cool too. This album isn't even that bad but everything after is shite. | 6 | | Iggy Pop Soldier
The frontman of legendary punk icons The Stooges went solo and released from pretty awesome records in the seventies. Then he got shite. Like, really shite. As in he hasn't made a good album since 1980. Soldier wasn't terrible but from this point on he completely lost the plot and nothing from here on is worth listening to. Seriously, don't even bother. But his earlier stuff is essential. Bother with that. | 5 | | Genesis Abacab
Okay, this one was a little difficult to pinpoint. There definitely was a time when Genesis went from being one of the greatest progressive rock acts of all time to becoming very, very shite. However, everyone differs in opinion as to when that transition took place. Some point to 'Trick of the Tail', when Phil Collins took over lead vox from Peter Gabriel. I think that was a fantastic album. Others say '...And Then There Were Three'. Of course there are a select few who will say Genesis were always shite but they can go eat spiders. 'Abacab' was the point for me when Genesis truly lost their lustre and became awash in commercialised pop rock drivel. That isn't to say they didn't have any decent songs afterwards but none of their albums were any good from here on. | 4 | | Journey Departure
Yes, you read that right- JOURNEY USED TO BE GOOD. Before they became the most unbearable arena rock band of all time, Journey began as a pretty cool progressive and hard rock band. Even their first few albums with crooner Steve Perry were pretty ace. However, with their aptly-titled 1980 effort, sales went up but credibility went way down. Oh well. Don't stop believ... ah fuck it. | 3 | | Yes Tormato
Prog legends Yes really fucked it up here. Musical uncertainty and tensions within the band resulted in this tepid affair as well as the commercialised bullshit that spewed out afterwards. The fact that key members Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman departed after this didn't help much either. Yes have some of the best progressive rock albums of all time, essential listening, but they became irrelevant after 1975. | 2 | | Black Sabbath Seventh Star
The heaviest fall from grace in all of musical history but it wasn't really anyone in the band's fault. Guitarist Tony Iommi meant for this to be his solo album where he experimented with more commercial sounds, but label pressure forced him to release it under the name of his legendary band. The Sabs are the most indebted-to band in all of metal, basically because every heavy band that came after them basically stole their sound, whether they played it faster, heavier, louder, it doesn't matter as metal would not exist without the bands first 5-6 albums fronted by Ozzy Osbourne, as well as their three Ronnie James Dio- fronted ones. However, aside from those (side project 'Heaven and Hell' and latest effort '13' nonwithstanding), Sabbath then released some truly awful bollocks which wasn't even intended as Sabbath material at all. Though probably too old now to reclaim their glory days, at least they're trying to make up for the missteps of the mid-late eighties through to the nineties. | 1 | | Creed My Own Prison
Okay, no, I lied on this one, Creed have always been shite. This Pearl Jam-aping drivel should never be listened to by anyone except those on death row as a form of execution. Minus Scott Stapp and plus Myles Kennedy as Alter Bridge, however, these guys rule face. Check that stuff out instead. Not this. This is shite. | |

08.16.14 | @emester I have Yes here! But I agree with Cryptopsy and partially with In Flames | Torontonian
08.16.14 | The only ones i care about on here are 5 & 3. i agree with 3, 5 never got "bad" i think they just lost the spark. list needs muse and RHCP's | NordicMindset
08.16.14 | 8,9,10 spot on | emester
08.16.14 | Oh I didn't see that XD | TurboOutrun
08.16.14 | I agree with Tormato being terrible, but Drama and Keys to Ascension 2 are both great Yes albums. | Torontonian
08.16.14 | although i actually thought Heaven and Earth wasn't as bad as everyone says. If you're in the mood for easy melodicish music then its not bad. | emester
08.16.14 | I can see Cynic up there as well | LepreCon
08.16.14 | @Krigo Drama is actually decent but Yes were never really the same after Tormato
@Torontonian I agree, I actually like Heaven and Earth but definitely nowhere near my favourite
@emester I quite like Cynic's latest album still but I realise that puts me in a minority amongst their long-term fans! | Torontonian
08.16.14 | oh i didn't see 2... i care about them | LepreCon
08.16.14 | Yeah, I worship Sabbath's classic stuff but abhor the rest. But like I said, never meant to be Sabbath material in the first place. | ScuroFantasma
08.16.14 | 7-10 had some good stuff, but I agree with this list, most of their new material is bad. | LepreCon
08.16.14 | Funnily enough I grouped them together on purpose! Also I'mma rec something to myself for the next list- Def Leppard! Jesus, talk about wasted promise! | emester
08.16.14 | Cant believe I forgot all of the Big 4 thrash bands | scottpilgrim10
08.16.14 | Agreed with 10,9, and 7 not with 8 though bc of AI | LepreCon
08.16.14 | Yeah, but I did say American Idiot was an exception to their post- Nimrod shiteness, it's literally the only good album they've made in 15 years! I could have put them down twice to reflect this. | LepreCon
08.16.14 | Ah but Black Sabbath were the first true heavy metal band... but it is a debate older than time itself (well not really but 1970 was a long enough time ago!) | NeroCorleone80
08.16.14 | Led Zep weren't metal at all. Even Deep Purple were more of an influence on metal than them | ChoccyPhilly
08.16.14 | Good list, I pretty much agree with everythin here | NeroCorleone80
08.16.14 | Yeah but not as much as the other two | LepreCon
08.16.14 | Sabbath were the creators. Purple and Zep had influence but the Sabs were he indisputable creators of metal. Though others like Blue Cheer and early Zep did pave the way | ADV123
08.16.14 | Green def had some good records after the mid 90s... Warning, American Idiot, and even 21st Breakdown are all decent records. | LepreCon
08.17.14 | Warning = nope
American Idiot = already said it was good
21st Century Breakdown = nope nope nope | Snowdog808
08.17.14 | Agree with Genesis Irish rock maestro. Duke was to me the last Genesis album with some good songs (mostly "Duke's Travels"), but they totally commercialized their sound after that and shredded almost all their individuality they once were known for in the 1970s. |
