The Monarchy Of The United Kingdom

Is it still relevant and do we really need it anymore? I understand that it's great for tourism, which of course boosts the economy, but do they really have a purpose any more? I feel like Will's duties in the military and his job as an air ambulance pilot are all just for good press, considering the bad press the royal family has received in the past(particularly after the death of Princess Diana). Or maybe I'm just being too cynical. What do you think?
