My Birthday
So today i've turned 20 years old. it's weird i don't feel it at all. But at any rate rthanks everyone for all of the recs and good to decent times ive had here. you all rrock. (well most of you) list is a very ~rough~ top 20 albums of all times. i tried to rkeep it to one album per artist too for the sake of variety and whatnot. so ryeahhhhhhhhhhhh |
20 | | Mr. bungle Mr. bungle
This album is so fucking weird. I still remember the first time i listened to this. I was so off
put and weirded out i didn't really think i liked it. The album works because the musicianship
is so fantastic they could pull off an album like this. out of all of the albums on this list, if i
could go back and hear one for the first time again it would be this. |
19 | | Ten Grand This is the way to rule
Okay i admit this album is a bit weird considering i just found it this year. But i really just
fucking love it that much. Top notch vocals mixed with some great songwriting makes for a
great god tier skramz album |
18 | | Elvis Costello This year's model
Forget weezer, elvis costello is the ultimate nerd rocker. This year's model is a oft forgotten
classic around this parts that needs some more love. Costello's lyrics, personality and voice
are really quite great--- and he's backed up by an amazing band to boot. idk it's a really super
pop record |
17 | | circa survive blue sky noise
I was taking the drive home from school friday night, and i decided to play violent waves, and
it dawned on me- i love circa survive. it just crept up on me over the years and it's just a fact
i have to live with. Blue sky noise is by far their best, theres a great mix of heavier and light
tracks and the whole thing just flows so well. |
16 | | Mogwai young Team
Probably one of my favorite post rock records bar spiderland. Like herod has perfect dynamics
and still keeps me on edge to this day. the songs are gorgeous and really is a height the band
will sadly never reach again |
15 | | poison the well you come before you
One of my first metalcore records when i first came here and one of the few that's really
stuck with me over the years. My favorite part has always been how earnest and passionate
the singing has been. Jeff's vocals really make this record. |
14 | | Elliott smith elliott smith
i listen to this is a sad mood, and when the album is over i'm still sad-- but i feel a weird
sense of comfort |
13 | | As Cities Burn come now sleep
This album came at the perfect time in my life. when i was having a crisis of faith. I love how
cody sings as a chirstian expressing doubts about his faith idk. its a non cheesy christian
album that seems more real about it's message than most other albums ive listen to. i may
not be going through a crisis of faith now but damn musically is this good |
12 | | the number twelve looks like you mongrel
This going with the poison the well album regarding to me finding it early on in my journey or whatever. I still find this enthralling and it's a
huge influence on my playing today |
11 | | dance gavin dance downtown battle mountain
It's hard to pick a dgd album as my favorite. I love the bands sound overall to death-- but i only kinda love their albums if that makes sense. In
any case this could be called their best. jon and johnny's polar opposite vocals perfectly complement will's guitar playing in a way no post
hardcore album has really reached. they also keep things in a playful mood for the most part and i really like that. |
10 | | pg. 99 document #5
one of my favorite skramz albums. it's so raw and pissed off. this is pg. 99's lp thatis closest to grindish territory or whatever, which is what
i've always liked about it. document 8 is good and all but this one has always appealed a bit more to me. |
9 | | Fugazi Red Medicine
I really didn't know which fugazi to put here. I put red medicine because it's roughly in the midddle of their discog, and their sound. it's where
they really started experimenting and still had a lot of their roots. some really amazing songs on here and really has everything i love about
fugazi all nicely wrapped up. |
8 | | Interpol Turn on the Bright Lights
I always listen to this while i'm driving and has to be one of my most played. the band really captured lightning in a bottle (or however that
saying goes) for this lp and they havent really come close to this imo. that's because after years and years of play this has a special spot in my
heart for whatever reason. carlos d ftw |
7 | | Fear Before The Always Open mouth
The atmosphere on this album is incredible. the band really pushed the limits of post hardcore on this and really ended up with such a unique on
their hands. every creepy sound, every electronic noise seems to put in place so meticulously it's just amazing |
6 | | the dillinger escape plan Calculating infinity
ben weinman is a madman |
5 | | Tera melos Tera melos
This lp is such a huge inspiration to me. I love nick's guitar playing on this so hard it makes me upset at what they're doing nowadays. This is
math rock at it's finest and it really doesn't get any better than this. |
4 | | City Of Caterpillar City of Caterpillar
this probably hits the hardest emotionally than anything else on this list. the way the band just builds up and explodes is just perfect. godspeed
like post rock meeting fucking great skramz is always a win. i wish they had just a little more material out. |
3 | | slint spiderland
fuck this album. along with mr. bungle i feel seriously uncomfortable when listening to this. there's something about it, idk how to really explain
it. the epitome of post rock imo really is great stuff. i love this album more than i love planet earth-------- soon may be taking the #1 spot. |
2 | | Off minor The heat death of the universe
okay i lied when i said COC was the hardest hitting album emotionally here. Ive dealt with suicide in my life (not just including me) and this
really hits hard. the lyrics are brilliant and so is the playing. jamie was such a master a loud/ soft dynamic, and was just a great fucking person
in general. yeah |
1 | | Glassjaw Worship and Tribute
my favorite album of all time. funny enough the first time i listened to to i fell asleep lol. Daryl is perfect, he has a weird delivery and is just a
general weirdo, but never comes off forced or annoying. (letlive) the guitar playing is so effect laden- but i never really noticed at first. it all
sounds so natural and necessary. really it all comes together so well it's hard to really explain. ive been listening to this album for 5 or 6 ish
years and the chorus of cosmopolitian bloodloss still is the catchiest chorus i think ill ever hear. stuck pig still sounds like its going to
completely derail itself-- even though i know exactly what happens in the song. idk cool album check it out |
