Eyehategod, Acid Bath, Down (their first album mainly), Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, Melvins (buttload of material with lots of variety; their best is early - mid 90s)

Gnome7 12.16.14	Start with the basics buddy. Go with the 70's shit, Judas Priest, Sabbath etc. Then listen to some 80's speed and thrash metal and just good old 80's heavy metal. Megadeth, Metallica, Kreator, Slayer. Plus Iron Maiden. Then move on to some proto extreme metal like Celtic Frost, Venom, Bathory, and Possesed. Once you start to dig that shit then you're ready for the extreme shit. I recommend starting with MELODIC death metal. Listen to Carcass's Heartwork, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and At the Gates. There are plenty of other bands but once you get into this shit you can get in to the more extreme forms of Black and Death Metal. Black Metal recs for you are Burzum, Darkthrone, Enslaved, Mayhem, and Emperor. Death Metal recs, Death, Morbid Angel, Opeth, Autopsy, Gorguts, Entombed, and Ulcerate and definitely Strapping Young Lad. If you want some Doomy, sludgy or just slow heavy shit, check out bands like Mastodon, Meshuggah and most definitely ELECTRIC WIZARD, Neurosis, Cult Of Luna, Isis. You could always throw in some 90's heavy metal like Pantera, or Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. Paradise Lost as well. If you want the more progressive side, look to Dream Theater, Opeth, Edge of Sanity, Devin Townsend and newer Enslaved.
