05.27.15 | More to come - most of these are either legendary or sputcore so go easy on me here |
worthlessscab
05.27.15 | don't forget your valium tonight |
Jasdevi087
05.27.15 | I can't fuck with Hendrix either, I don't even care what people tell me at this point. I do like a couple of his songs but I wouldn't listen to them often. |
TheWrenKing
05.27.15 | The Horrors have only like 1 album worth listening to so you're gud on that front
Lotsa shitty artists here too |
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | Yeah Jas, Hendrix I find just blurs into an 'ok thing' for me, his songwriting and vocals don't grab me.
Wren, The Horrors I find super bland |
zakalwe
05.27.15 | This is great, the reasoning is total class but not digging Jimi, Motorhead or the Smiths is unforgivable. |
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | Zak - Jimi and Motörhead I think are good, I'll listen to them a bit but I don't really get the compulsion to go any further. The Smiths should be my favourite band, I know this - I just can't go the full Morrissey. |
Alastor
05.27.15 | strange indeed. cmon you 2.5ed master of reality, this can't be. |
Aftertheascension
05.27.15 | 1,9,18, and 21 all suck dick so you're Gucci. |
TheWrenKing
05.27.15 | Primary Colours is cool but the rest of their discog is pretty meh alright
|
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | Alastor most sabbath is pretty much one tempo, slow, I tend to like 2 or 3 on each album so 2.5 to 3.5 are my sabbath ratings |
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | Also I have no great love for Ozzy |
ResidentNihilist
05.27.15 | gotta be Death for me. Chuck was a great guitarist but progressively got worse as a songwriter as Death grew bigger. |
Tunaboy45
05.27.15 | maybe you don't like bjork because you only listened to the album she made when she was 11 |
BMDrummer
05.27.15 | ascension being wrong again what's new |
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | Tuna - I just chose self titled albums where available for the list. Might check out that album, shows her real music before fame changed her lol |
DrGonzo1937
05.27.15 | I wank over a lot of these artists daily. |
DrGonzo1937
05.27.15 | Also, I think you might need to go to the doctor's, if you can't have fun with Limp Bizkit, you might not have a soul. |
AmericanFlagAsh
05.27.15 | The Smiths are everything... |
DrGonzo1937
05.27.15 | Beach Boys took awhile for me to warm too, but I got there in the end. |
JamieTwort
05.27.15 | Not liking Porcupine Tree is perfectly understandable and you certainly shouldn't expect to like them simply cos you like Floyd lol
Dylan though, damn. |
ArsMoriendi
05.27.15 | Frances the Mute is a horrible album, so it's okay not to like it.
Maybe try again with Jimi and Sabbath, but most of this isn't essential enough to care about... |
JamieTwort
05.27.15 | and Ozzy-era Sabbath is the best metal music out there. |
idontcareaboutthis
05.27.15 | wtf how can you not get into some of these. a lot of this stuff is completely entry level stuff. damn |
NeroCorleone80
05.27.15 | Ozzy-era Sabbath is the best metal [2]
You'd best start getting into it |
dbizzles
05.27.15 | 14- listen to All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone.
I much prefer it to that album. |
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | Yeah, so just to clarify the list are artists I know are 'good music' but I don't personally enjoy listening to all that much, often much to my own surprise.
Ok, Sabbath I predicted would be the most controversial here - Ozzy's brummie yelp doesn't rock my world like Hetfield's grizzled bark or Mustaine's whiney yank growl, a lot of things that turn me off a band are trivial or irrational, this is a case in point.
Rabbit I have 2'd most of this list ;)
Doc G - the Limp Bizkit comment was a cheap shot, just checking my player and there are 5 LB tunes on there - such a hypocrite |
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | Rabbit - to be specific I've 2 to 3'd some of the artists on this list. These are artists from genres I like who people would accuse me of underrating/expect me to like. I can also tell they are 'good music' in that I can appreciate the song writing/musicianship - they just don't get me any more excited than appreciating they are decent at what they do and maybe digging the occasional song.
A list of stuff I think stinks would look totally different to this, I respect all of the listed artists (well, most of them at least...) |
DrGonzo1937
05.27.15 | "Frances the Mute is a horrible album, so it's okay not to like it."
Dude... |
YetAnotherBrick
05.27.15 | "Chuck was a great guitarist but progressively got worse as a songwriter as Death grew bigger."
ummmmmmm wat |
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | dbizzles I'll give Explosions another go with that album cheers |
chinesewhispers
05.27.15 | If you haven't spun Those Who Tell the Truth then give it a try
they get a lot of shit for being formulaic but all 3 albums sound pretty diff |
dbizzles
05.27.15 | It is my favorite. I feel your pain with a few of these- no Bob Dylan, the Smiths, or Bruce Springsteen for me.
KISS is a guilty pleasure, but a mixed bag. If you can download Double Platinum, it is a perfect collection of their only good songs- and some bad ones. |
JamieTwort
05.27.15 | "Maybe try again with Jimi and Sabbath, but most of this isn't essential enough to care about..."
Dylan is just as essential as those two (goes without saying, I know but...) |
InFlamesWeThrash666
05.27.15 | You don't like "the metal" if you don't like Sabbath tho |
chinesewhispers
05.27.15 | You can like metal but you can't like the metal nahmsayin |
dbizzles
05.27.15 | Sabbath is nostalgic for me, but I can't remember any time I have ever put any on in the last 10 years. |
FlyheadMetal
05.27.15 | 5 is amazing i think lmao |
DoofusWainwright
05.27.15 | I like the Sabbath, I don't love the Sabbath.
Led Zeppelin are a different matter |
DrGonzo1937
05.28.15 | "Sabbath is nostalgic for me, but I can't remember any time I have ever put any on in the last 10 years."
I feel sorry for you, man. |
DoofusWainwright
05.28.15 | Sabbath were touch and go to make the list, I knew putting them here would be a bit masochistic.
The way I'd put it is - if my favourite 12 Sabbath songs were compiled on one album I'd probably 4.5 that...and I wouldn't really need to listen to any of the rest of their stuff outside of that again. |
DrGonzo1937
05.28.15 | I'm like that with Korn. lol |
Cygnatti
05.28.15 | "but most of this isn't essential enough to care about..."
bc apparently only "essential music" matters enough to put an effort into liking ;) |
melnadaiid
05.28.15 | how I feel about every band pre-1980 |
dbizzles
05.28.15 | 'I'm like that with Korn. lol'
YEP, their Greatest Hits is all I need. |
RadicalEd
05.28.15 | Kinda sorta on the same page with you on some of these. (1, 2, 21, 26, 40) |
bloodshy
06.08.15 | i find it strange that anyone would feel compelled to enjoy something that they do not enjoy. there's no sacrilege in, let's say, thinking chocolate tastes bad. it's just how taste works. same with music. |
DoofusWainwright
06.08.15 | Bloodshy people are interpreting the list wrong - I'm saying I'm surprised I don't like these artists because they're similar to things I already like, not that I feel compelled due to peer pressure/masochism/reviews/ratings |
DrGonzo1937
06.08.15 | "YEP, their Greatest Hits is all I need."
Indeed! |

06.10.15 | #25 |
jmnewcomer18
09.07.15 | 19 is the best album of the 2000s imo. I do agree with a lot of these though |
wafagan
10.09.15 | I can dig this. I love the Beatles, and I fucking hate Oasis. |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | Still only changed my mind on a couple of these |
tempest--
08.17.16 | have you listened to Dio-era Sabbath? Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules are musically not as good (still great), but the vocals might be more to your liking |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | Tempest Ozzy is pretty lame so that could work - I would say Sabbath are one of the bands I like a little more since I published this though |
claygurnz
08.17.16 | We've got contributors who have Master of Reality 2.5'd? Smh!
Only joshing with you Doof, but give that album another listen. |
MO
08.17.16 | jesus how someone can not get into any of Sabbath's first 4 albums is so fucking weird |
Archelirion
08.17.16 | The descriptions here, hooooly shit
What is it you don't like about Pulp, may I ask? Lyrically at least their stuff is gold. |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | Check my ratings, I have to some extent - still haven't heard all the debut. My problems with Sabbath are Ozzy's vocals range from OK to terrible and the pace is so slow too much of the time.
But as stated above, they are one of the bands who've gone up in my estimations a bit since I posted this |
JamieTwort
08.17.16 | first 6*
All other metal music is inferior to [classic] Ozzy-era Sabbath. |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | JamieT that's the 'all pop after The Beatles is inferior' argument |
rabidfish
08.17.16 | How can you not like ATR? Black Sabbath? THIN LIZZY???
Doof confirmed shit taste. |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | Rabid - I need to listen to more Thin Lizzy but the other two just don't really do it for me. I've even seen Sabbath live twice and they weren't all that. You won't convince me Ozzy isn't useless. |
SitarHero
08.17.16 | Humour in the list gets 8/10. |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | Arch I've just never really enjoyed anything I've heard by Pulp, they seem to be one of those intellectually intriguing bands who don't get me going musically at all |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | The Fall would definitely no longer make this list, I dig them a fair bit now |
AsleepInTheBack
08.17.16 | List amused me |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | It's prime 2015 Doof |
JamieTwort
08.17.16 | "JamieT that's the 'all pop after The Beatles is inferior' argument"
I don't see how it is. I'm assuming your likening it to that based on the fact that most people that say that are basing a lot of there reasoning on the whole "but they influenced everything that came after them, they must be the best" argument. Sabbath's influence and the fact that they were 'the first' for their genre has absolutely nothing to do with why I think Ozzy-era Sabbath is and always will be the best metal music. |
ReminiscentOfAWhale
08.17.16 | Springsteen grates on my ears |
blacklightjer
08.17.16 | Iron Maiden, I get. When they're good, they're great, but Dickenson's vocals aren't the best anymore and sometimes their songs are just too fucking long.
The XX, you aren't missing much.
Porcupine Tree... Hit and miss. You could easily take a few songs from each album since Deadwing, make it a playlist, and you'll never have to listen to anything else by them ever again.
Limp Bizkit; how fucking DARE YOU not be down with Durst and friends?! If you don't do it all for the nookie, then what the fuck else will you do it all for? |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | JamieT that's fair enough, I don't dislike Sabbath and I can see why people would still consider them their favourite metal act, and not just due to their huge influence. I mean I probably feel nearly as strongly about Zeppelin as you do Sabbath and I just dig LZ stuff, not because of historical significance. I'm just not sure I'd go as far as to say all rock music after Zeppelin is inferior |
ZippaThaRippa
08.17.16 | I'm not a huge fan of Sabbath either. Obviously they're essential and whatever but I'm not into Ozzy. I like the dio stuff better. |
DoofusWainwright
08.17.16 | Sounds like I've gotta check the Dio stuff |
theBoneyKing
08.17.16 | Classic |

08.17.16 | Dio-era Sabbath isn't all that special. |
miketunneyiscool123
08.17.16 | @Jamie goddam it Dio is good man
In all seriousness though, these choices are understandable. |
