Korn Albums Ranked

Korn has put out so many records in 20 years and I basically like THEM ALL, although some are not that good musically. Korn is definitely not the best or most solid band, that's for sure but it's really fun going through their whole discography, where they are "experimenting different shit" (in the words of the lead singer). This list is a mixture of my personal (subjective) and neutral (objective) opinion how Korn albums should be ranked. If you haven't ever listened to Korn and maybe want to try some albums, then I would recommend you the records in the Top 8 but the most solid are in the Top 3. Note: Avg. Reviewer scores from Metacritic.com. PS: It was REALLY hard to decide the Top 4 Albums. Bonus!!!: Rating for See You on the Other Side (#notenoughspace): Avg. Reviewer Rating: 6.5/10 My rating: 7/10

Korn

Just an amazing record. So many feelings coming up after listening to this masterpiece. Maybe not quite my personal favourite but... oh my god, this is just pure awesomeness. I love records, where every single song has its right place on the album and is just perfectly written. 5 Stars!!!

Untouchables

I don't understand why the majority of fans think that this album was the beginning of the band's decline. Yeah, it didn't sell that well as its predecessors but c'mon that doesn't show the quality of the record. This one is JUST AMAZING.
1. Best vocal performance by JD
2. Best guitar work by Head and Munky
3. Drums are just epic
4. They brought in so many new ideas
5. It is heavy and emotional as fuck

Songs like No One's There or Hollow Life.. I can't really believe that these are Korn songs because they're just on a whole new level. Like the self-titled, every song is well written and amazing.
If the band had kept experimenting on the following albums like on this one and if head hadn't left, then Korn would've become such an epic band with a unique sound.

Follow the Leader

To be honest. I didn't like this one as much as the other "old-skool" albums at first listen. This was the last Korn album i listened to and I.. I was kind of dissappointed. I don't know why. I was just expecting something different. But later, I somehow realized that this album is one of the most amazing records of this band. They brought in new ideas and it came out really well. "Seed" and "My Gift to You" (and of course all the other songs) are really unique Korn songs. That's the main reason why I love this one. The album has its own touch. Love listening to that one.

Issues

Now THIS is my personal favourite. I know it's weird to rank it at fourth place but I think it really isn't just as perfect as those in the Top 3. Just musically it's not that well written (especially the lyrics could have been better). Anyway, I just adore this album. It got me through a really hard time and it's an amazing concept album. So many feelings coming up while listening to all songs, it's just... Wow. Maybe it's also the most personal album I've ever listened to. "Trash" will always be my all time favourite song by Korn because of its raw and creepy atmosphere - but that's with every song on the album: very atmospheric and moving. The vocal performance of JD is stunning and the concert in Apollo, where they played the whole album, was just astonishing.

The Paradigm Shift

I'm really glad to see Korn as solid as they were back with their first 5 albums. It's the first Korn record I listened to and I really liked it and so do I now. Personally, I would've put it at number 6 but just because of the good guitar work and looking at the album as a whole, I had to put it over life is peachy. The only thing I don't really dig on this one is that "Whish I Wasn't Born Today" and "Tell Me What You Want" are just Bonus Tracks and the fact that sometimes this album is getting repetitive. But nevertheless, it is really solid and epic. Highlights: "Victimized" and "Mass Hysteria".

Concerning "Never Never": I don't think this song's bad at all but I think the album would have been better without that song. To be honest, I really love the Verses, which are really catchy, and also the bridge but the chorus is just... garbage xD that's the only problem I have with that one. Really cool idea but.. yeah.

Life Is Peachy

I LOVE listening to that record. It's just weird, fucked up and disturbing. The reason for the "low" ranking is because it really sounded like a cheap copy of the first record sometimes. Ignoring that aspect, the album is awesome, especially the beginning with "Twist" and "Chi". I nearly had an or(/ear)gasm listening to "Chi" for the first time. "No Place To Hide", "Good God" and "Mr. Rogers" are also definitely one of my favourite Korn songs. The only song I didn't really like is "Lowrider" - that song was just pointless.

See You on the Other Side

It's sad that many are hating on that one... Sure it was probably the most mainstream album by Korn (even more than Path of Totality) but it contains really unique Korn songs and is maybe their most experimental album after [Untitled]. They were like a whole new band during this one and [Untitled], somehow an Industrial Metal band. Normally, I don't want to compare those two albums with the rest of their discography because they're great on their own but just because it is labeled under the band "Korn", I think I'll have to x3 I think you will have a great time while listening to this record. It's really divers with many different styles and ideas and it has a dark atmosphere. It's also a weird mixture between "Mainstream Korn" and "Art Korn". On one hand "Twisted Transistor" and "Coming Undone" and on the other hand "Tearjerker" and "Open Up". But I love it. To each his own. I also understand the negative reception. "Seen It All", "Love Song" and "Throw Away" are the highlights for me

Untitled

The most experimental album by them. Was a really good idea but turned out a little bit messed up and not really solid. It's just very sad seeing that album on the 8th spot (looking at "Starting Over", "Hushabye" and "Kiss") but it's just not possible to put it over another one. I really LOVE Korn for making this album. The least well received album and yet the most artsy. By the way, the artwork is also epic. Really lucky to possess this one. I absolutely understand the negative reviews and the outcry coming from fans but songs like "Hushabye" or "Kiss" are undeniably beautiful. Love that record (even more than SYotOS, LiP or TPS). It was just the time where JD could shine and show his talent.

Korn III: Remember Who You Are

One of the first albums by Korn I listened to. Loved it at the beginning and also got me through a hard time but it just felt very rushed and not very polished. It also sounds like something Korn (especially Jonathan) didn't really want to do, sometimes forced. Nonetheless, I am very keen on the western-like atmosphere and conceptual touch it had, as well as the beginning and ending of the album. "The Past" and "Are You Ready to Live?" are just really underrated tracks that I would also like to hear live. Summing up, it's an okay record.

The Path of Totality

Didn't dislike it because it turned out soft or because of the dubstep elements. The end product wasn't just really what could be the best. But I also don't really detest this one because Korn tried something new and Jonathan really loves it but they're just too many songs that I'm not really fond of.

Take a Look in the Mirror

This one's just overrated. Rushed and quickly done just to get another top selling album because Untouchables didn't sell like Issues and FtL. I like some songs but many riffs just feel uninspired and dull as well as the voice of Jonathan. The only forgettable record by them.
