Buster From Kidcrash's July Top 20

Top 20 records I've been listening to this month. Across genres... My first list.
1 Lil' Wayne
The Carter III (The Stolen Tracks Pt. 3)

The remixes are undeniable. Production unstoppable. Flows flowing.
2 Toe
The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety

Toe, from Japan, are a mostly instrumental band that are rhythmically stunning. The drummer is a groove
drummer unlike any drummer you might hear in somewhat similar bands like Explosions in the Sky,
Album Leaf, Mum, etc. His style, and the production of this record (and the other 2) is so unique that it
makes this the most interesting, beautiful, unique band I've discovered this year.
3Dillinger Four
Situationist Comedy

While I originally put "Midwestern Songs for the Americas" on this list, I was listening to it, and after it
ended this album came on. There is something about needing to listen to some actual punk rock, a lot of
that time that urge motivates me to listen to old pop-punk albums that can only be rocked as a joke. This
band and Propaghandi are the only two punks bands who, thanks to their melodic sensibility, I can feel my
craving for punk rock with without any guilt about it settling for music that is mediocre. The Dillinger Four
vocalists really make the later records into albums that are more than just punk songs, but serious
anthems.
4Dead Prez
RBG: Revolutionary But Gangsta

"I don't want no computer chip in my arm
I don't wanna die by a nuclear bomb
I say we all rush the pentagon, pull out guns
And grab the intercom, my first word's will be I believe
Man made God, outta ignorance and fear
If God made man, then why the hell would he put us here?
I thought he's supposed to be the all loving
The same God who let Hitler put the Jews in the oven
We don't fall for the regular shit, they try to feed us
All this half-ass leadership, flippin position
They turn politcian and shut the hell up and follow tradition
For your TV screen, is telling lies to your vision
Every channel got some brainwashed cop shit to watch
Running up in niggas cribs claiming that they heard shots
It's a plot, but busta can you tell me who's greedier?
Big corporations, the pigs or the media?
Sign of the times, terrorism on the rise
Commercial airplanes, falling out the sky like flies
Make me wonder what secrets went down with Bob Brown (?)
Who burnt churches to the ground with no evidence found?
It's not coincidence, it's been too many studied incidents
It coulda been the Klan who put that bomb at the Olympics
But it probably was the FBI, deep at the call
Cuz if they make us all panic then they can start martial law" Enough said. I need this medicine daily,
never gets old, even after years. An always needed reminder of being white, and what it means.
5 Propaghandi
Todays Empire Tomorrows Ashes

A friend was shocked last year when he found out I wasn't really into Propaghandi, "not even the new
record," which I hadn't heard. Well once I listened to it I realized why he was so serious about it, super
great record that I think a lot of people might overlook because it just gets generalized and assumed to
just be a punk record, not The punk record, of the last few years.
6 Tornavalanche
No Money, No Problems.

Just plain rad. Sick, quick, record.
7Capsule
Blue
8 Kind of Like Spitting
New Demos

I got a copy of some demos from Ben Barnett for a new record he is probably recording this summer. If
and when it comes out it will definitely be under a different name, a totally different line-up, but the sound
won't be arguably un-KOLS. Incredible songs, stylistically tight and precise, any fans of the band will be
really in love with the record, and I'd imagine there will be plenty more new converts to the camp. Get
stoked.
9 Bun B
II Trill

Best rap artist from the South proves it with a record where every song is fucking ridiculous. UGK for life.
Extra credit for production, guest appearances, and shout outs to the whole of the Dirty South on the
track "Everything I Need".
10 Big Business
Here Comes the Waterworks

So much riff the album is full of thunderous riffs that some of the biggest riffs happen on the drums. This
shit is so solid, if you like your rock to make you bob your head and bang on whatever is in front of you
without you having any say in the matter, get the album that ends any confusion about the potential of
2-piece bands.
11 Aussitôt Mort
6 song cd

Played 3 shows with them in France. This could easily be my number 1, heavy, worth discovering and
getting obsessed with. Drums...Drums.
12 Ratatat
Mixtape: Volume 2

Better than Ratatat, better than Rap, better than the new Ratatat. Period.
13Russian Circles
Station

No matter what you think about this band, this album deserves a fresh and open listen, because it's too
good to not give a chance. Huge guitars, incredible drumming. Tasteful, but strangely Metal.
14Gospel
The Moon is a Dead World

This drummer still kills me on every listen. "Hey man you got a cigarette, I know you got one on ya."
15 GZA
D.A.R.T.S.

Short, sweet, great album, especially if you already like GZA.
16 The Wunder Years
Fashion over Function

These songs are like more than 8 years old, and they are still really definitively rocking. Band members
were/are also in The Velvet Teen, The New Trust, The Ghost, Desert City Soundtrack... Such an awesome
ep.
17The Velvet Teen
Cum Laude

The drumming on this at times so good its in-comprehendible, the vocals are incredible as always, the
bass/guitar work is so smart, and all the other instrumentation is right on, as always... This band should be
so huge based off of any one of the hand full of incredible records they have released, this raises the bar for
every band that isn't in the mainstream, because any other band that released an album like this could
never stay in the underground.
18 Liz Isenberg
Seaports/Seeports

I love her, and you would to if you only gave it a little listen. Beautiful.
19 Celeste
Nihiliste

Mihai Edrisch is one of my favorite bands of all times. Why wouldn't the band that a few members started
following their break-up be something I really like? Brutal, beautiful. Download it for free at
denovali.com/celeste
20Pinback
Autumn of the Seraphs

So good, still.
