Warped Tour 08
Bands I saw at Warped Tour 2008 on 07-16. |
1 | Mayday Parade
Gates at 11 first bands come on at 11:15. EFF that! Never seen them before and missed them play three of my favorites by them. Feels like I rarely caught any of their set but they sounded great. Hopefully they tour again before they head back to the studio. |
2 | Norma Jean
It is kind of odd to see a group like this play the mainstage at Warped. They were solid as usual, pits were intense despite it only being a quarter after noon. Their new stuff sounded better live than it did recorded so hopefully that's a sign of things to come. |
3 | Every Time I Die
Keith is pretty darn funny. I must admit these guys had one of the best sounds out of anyone all day. Very tight and they have come a long way since I saw them in the Fall of 06. The pit on Bored Stiff was immense, first try no stopping. What a sight! |
4 | Anberlin
Absolutely phenomenal. Opened with Godspeed and the crowd was dead. Decided to hop up and crowd surf and was promptly dropped about 7 rows from the front. That was a first and a hurt on my bum. The Feel Good Drag, Paperthin Hymn, Hello Alone, and Dismantle Repair were great stuff. And the drummer of The Dangerous Summer was directly behind me in the crowd which was neat. |
5 | Relient K
Saw them from the monster truck. Yum free monster = win. Didn't really recognize anything they played other than the singles. Not a single old song that I heard. Bummer. |
6 | Say Anything
Every Warped Tour you just get this vibe from the crowd based on their size, how loud they are and how they know almost every word to every song for this one band. It's the band they are there to see. This band was Say Anything this year and they were ever so deserving. First time seeing them and it was a great performance. I'll be listening to them a lot more in the future. |
7 | Forever The Sickest Kids
Why this band was playing on one of the smallest stages at the festival is beyond me. That was a bummer since it was the local band stage. Pretty good sound, I've heard them sound better. There was a fight and their singer climbed into the crowd and expressed gratitude when the initiator left. Don't understand pop punk fights at all. |
8 | Story of the Year
What an incredible live act. High energy, tight sound, and just a very passionate feel overall. They played almost all old stuff which was great and one of my favorites off the new record. Downside: I felt like I was in a male porno in the pit since I was one of 3 people wearing a shirt. At 4:45 it was hot, sweaty, and slippery. |
9 | We The Kings
Only caught about two songs since I could hear how Travis' voice was a bit tired from touring. Also had to go catch A Day To Remember how I've only seen once. Since I'd already seen WTK three times they lost. |
10 | A Day To Remember
Missed their opening which was a bummer. But it was just so amazing to see how into them everyone was. Pits were huge despite the stage being on a split pavilion. The chants were so loud by the audience and it was just a very inspiring performance. Their vocalist has improved so much live. |
11 | The Devil Wears Prada
Another group I'd seen before. Not too shabby but they play nearly the same set every time. Left halfway through and heard them from a spot away from the stage and hung out with people. |
12 | Cobra Starship
I honestly have a guilty pleasure in these guys and girl. Gabe is such an incredible entertainer and ever since I saw them live in March I've respected them. The atmosphere at their performance this day was incredible. Despite it being 7:45 everyone was still pumped up for them. My roommate crowd surfed during their opener and got the party started. From there we literally had a line of people waiting for us to lift them up. It was pretty cool, felt like an amusement park ride. Their performance was surprisingly tight as usual, harmonies were nailed and it was just a good time vibe thanks to Gabe's humor. |
13 | Gym Class Heroes
The last band to play of the day and a pretty good wind down group if you will. Relaxed feel, good performance and their new material sounded superb. They played their Lamb of God cover (Laid to Rest) which was entertaining. The pit was massive and it made for a good story telling people that the three biggest pits of the day were Norma Jean, A Day To Remember and Gym Class Heroes. Really excited for their new record. |
14 | From First to Last, Greeley Estates, Pennywise, Evergreen Terrace
These were bands I either caught a random song or two from and/or walked by and heard a bit off. FFTL sounded like crap playing their older songs. Greeley sounded moderately interesting but I had no interest in watching their full set. Pennywise thought it was 1999 and acted cool since they started Warped Tour and talked about how they've been doing this for 14 years. They played the same song about 5 times and bitched about our president so it was kind of everything I expected. Evergreen Terrace is pretty generic metalcore. And along with a massive sunburn, this is what I got out of Warped. Enjoyable day, especially since the ticket was free :) |
