List Cuz I Can
Making a list of digs because I wanna make a list. Just need a way to organize my thoughts on the albums I've been consuming this past month. Been listening to a lot more music because I'm home from school and I have a lot of free time despite working an internship. |
1 | | The Hotelier Goodness
4.42/5
A great follow up to Home. A bit more reserved but still packs a punch emotionally. The lyrics on here are some of my favorite as well. This will definitely be on my AOTY list and is so far my favorite of the year. Best Track: Two Deliverances |
2 | | PUP The Dream Is Over
4.18/5
Killer punk release from the Canadians. Saw these guys live on their tour with MoBo and they killed it. Around the same caliber of their first album, no real dip in quality. Still as catchy as ever but I feel like they turned the energy up a notch on this. Best Tracks: DVP, Old Wounds |
3 | | Modern Baseball Holy Ghost
4.06/5
Wrote a review on this so not much else to say other than this hasn't worn off on me at all. Might just be my favorite MoBo album and hopefully I'll get to see them in 2 weeks with Joyce Manor. Best Tracks: Just Another Face, Coding These to Lukens |
4 | | Tiny Moving Parts Celebrate
4.01/5
Never really liked these guys too much album-wise as the lead singer always rubbed me the wrong way because of how he consistently did the same exact vocal delivery on every song. With this album they have really matured songwriting wise and because of that the vocal performances are a bit more varied and way more listenable in the perspective of an album. Best Tracks: Good Enough, Birdhouse |
5 | | James Blake The Colour in Anything
3.85/5
Okay so this album is my first experience with James Blake and I was pretty damn impressed. Loved the electronic/r&b feel he has going on. Only problem is that this album is soooo long so I end up only listening to my favorites off of it instead of the full thing. Best Tracks: Points, Radio Silence |
6 | | Tame Impala Currents
3.82/5
Really loved the overall atmosphere on this album. Surprisingly I thought this was their best release of their three albums but that's probably just personal preference. Definitely an album I look forward to jamming again. Best Tracks: The Less I Know the Better, Let it Happen |
7 | | Nothing Tired of Tomorrow
3.78/5
A bit more subdued than their debut album but the songs that bring the energy are exceptional. I just wished they had a better tracklist because the closing three songs are too slow and putting them together makes the entire album a bit of a chore to finish. Best Tracks: Fever Queen, ACD |
8 | | FIDLAR FIDLAR
3.74/5
Only thing that is keeping me from bumping this up to a 4 are the slower songs that get a little too beach rock for me. Other than that the coke-fueled tracks on here are so much fun to listen to. Glad the lead singer got clean but at the same time part of me still wishes he didn't so they could make more punk influenced tracks. Best Tracks: Cheap Beer, Max Can't Surf |
9 | | Weakened Friends Gloomy Tunes
3.72/5
Oh man this band is really cool. Female fronted pop punk/emo band that has a lot of energy. They sound like a cleaner version of Dilly Dally vocally but same in terms of energy. Honestly is one of my favorite songs at the moment, "Now I get fucked up all alone and think of you without your clothes on". Best Track: Honestly |
10 | | The Hotelier It Never Goes Out
3.70/5
Checked this out because of Goodness, mostly curious to see how much they have matured. Definitely a fun release but this shows a lot more of their pop punk roots than Goodness and even Home. Weathered is such a jam though and some of the lyrics have a lot of cool nostalgia motifs. Best Tracks: An Ode to the Nite Ratz Club, Weathered |
11 | | Chance the Rapper Coloring Book
3.63/5
Okay so this is definitely not as great as Acid Rap, but man there are some really awesome tracks on here. Definitely doesn't deserve the hate it is getting. Best Tracks, Angels, No Problems, Blessings |
12 | | Tame Impala Lonerism
3.60/5
Glad I checked this album out as well as Currents. The first two tracks weren't my favorite but the stretch of songs from the 3rd song until Elephant is amazing. Can definitely see this growing on me. Best Tracks: Feels Like I'm Only Going Backwards, Apocalypse Dreams |
13 | | Posture & The Grizzly I Am Satan
3.55/5
A much more polished release compared to their first album, Busch Hymns. Some really cool tracks on here and a very underappreciated emo band IMO. Best Tracks: Raspberry Heart, Shooting Sparks |
14 | | Flat Swamp By All Means
3.48/5
Really fun band that is very alt rock influenced but has some emo/punk vibes as well. They sound so familiar for some reason, but I can't put my finger on what band they sound like. Best Tracks: I Don't Know You, Baby |
15 | | Hightide Hotel Nothing Was Missing, Except Me
3.45/5
Another overlooked emo band that has an excellent sound to them. If you're looking for some twinkly jams look no further. Best Tracks: I'm Just Sipping on Monster, Thinkin' About Life, Weekends |
16 | | Dear and the Headlights Small Steps Heavy Hooves
???/5
Sweet Talk is my jam, but just discovered this band. Will listen to this album soon though, and hopefully it'll be as great as that song. |
17 | | Passion Pit Gossamer
???/5
Seeing these guys live in a month at Summerfest. Like a bunch of their singles but I haven't given this a full listen yet. Hopefully it's not too poppy/annoying. |
18 | | LCD Soundsystem Sound of Silver
???/5
Only know the song All My Friends off this one and it rocks. Seeing these guys in the fall and I've been meaning to check a full release of theirs for awhile now. |
19 | | Frightened Rabbit The Midnight Organ Fight
???/5
I have honestly only heard one song by these guys. Also seeing them live in the fall and I feel like this is a necessity to check before then. |
20 | | CLIQUE Burden Piece
???/5
Thought their debut was pretty cool. Some dark vibes on this with emo/slowcore influences. Sounds sick and hopefully it's as good as their debut or even better. |
