TVC15: Jazz Still Needs More Love on Sputnik

TVC15 07.21.16	Like the last one, comment jazz albums to add to this list. The last one wasn't filled up, but I just wanted a fresh list for some fresher recs Wish I could view my ratings per genre so that I could've added more albums I've already heard... There's an awful lot of jazz rap in there too hah.

Looks like a sweet album too I need to jump on that I remember for my AP exam for English, I wrote on Fela Kuti's Zombie album for a paragraph concerning one of the prompts I was given for the writing part of it. Really powerful album when you take a good look at the context of which it was recorded and released

Jots 07.21.16	not a lot of jazz here tbh anyway i'd include some (relatively) recent musicians like: david ware, butch morris, hank roberts, ned rothenberg, supersilent, eugene chadbourne, tim berne, elliott sharp, fred lonberg-holm, and some onkyo performers even, like taku sugimoto. like, i don't think listening to hip-hop that uses jazz elements in a supplementary sense is gonna turn anyone onto it, but hearing some fairly modern-ish musicians who still draw a lot of influence from the spirit of jazz and are embedded in its history might (?)

Jots 07.21.16	maybe but considering "jazz-rap" and vaguely-jazz-inspired bands have gotten plenty of exposure here, yet the genre remains largely undiscussed (which your list observes) it's safe to say that continuing to rep the same artists everyone is already aware of is probably gonna produce the same results
TVC15 07.21.16	Hmm I tried to use lesser known/discussed jazz rap but you do have a big point there. The excessive usage of them was more or less a result of just naming albums off the top of my head. I didn't really want to repeat albums from my previous list either

TVC15 07.21.16	I'm having much more trouble getting through my planned reviews than I used to. Somewhere down the line I plan on reviewing Let My Children Hear Music but even then it's going to be pretty hard making a convincing case that it's Mingus' magnum opus
BlushfulHippocrene 07.21.16	I've been using a lot more modern jazz or jazz-inspired bands like BBNG as a starter to the genre, and I think Christian Scott's another good one, as is Terrace Martin. Glad to see Fire! Orchestra, too. I find Bill Evans and Ryo Fukui easy to listen to as well.

MillionDead 07.27.16	Peter Brotzman - Machine Gun? That's free jazz monster. Coltrane's A Love Supreme is an easy classic. Thelonius Monk with John Coltrane or Monk's Blues. I feel like Miles Smiles is a Davis album that's fairly slept on. I'd recommend a Gerald Wilson album, but he doesn't have a page here. Sight by Adam Rodgers is a great time. Canvas by Robert Glasper. Some Nina Simone is essential. McCoy Tyner and Wes Montgomery, too.
