Cygnatti
09.18.16 | i had a dream, i was in a band, the singer and songwriter (lmao)
and amusingly/slightly surprisingly we made bluesy, southern rock with r&b influences. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.18.16 | lol wtf |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | just speakin hypothetically idk what im doin |
Ovrot
09.18.16 | voodoo themed black metal dream pop but not all shitty like deafheaven |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | ^sounds fun
the "not shitty like deafheaven" is important |
theNateman
09.18.16 | Probably either punk or hip hop tbh. Beats are beats and I just play the drums |
Ryus
09.18.16 | i would like to produce hip hop--with plenty of gorgeous samples of course |
theNateman
09.18.16 | Can I do the complex drum parts? |
SandwichBubble
09.18.16 | Post-punk, but really shitty post-punk. |
MistaCrave
09.18.16 | Trebor Alesana plays instruments, fucking GYBE fucking goes in the kitchen, and drops pans on the floor, open doors and slam them, water the fucking flowers and watch a train go by, then calls it music., , , , |
50iL
09.18.16 | I'd love to play prog death with jazz fundamentals with maybe even some orchestration/free improv/avant garde in. Just sounds like a nice, fun challenge.
The prog part would be less dominant, it'd be more of an addition rather than a substantial genre. |
MistaCrave
09.18.16 | it'd be so hard to make music like that that's actually enjoyable though. Most bands that play death jazz are soooooooo hit or miss |
50iL
09.18.16 | That's exactly the challenge though. I want something hard, not easy. Otherwise, I'd just be bored. And I think the death and jazz would alternate; sometimes death with jazz and sometimes jazz with death. I don't think I explained it well but it'd help in songwriting. Much like Cynic did on Focus, actually. I'd just add some improv and maybe some brass instruments. |
AlexKzillion
09.18.16 | Well I've been trying to write an EP forever now. Everything I come up with on guitar is like alty gazey indie mathy shit or some kind of Clapton worship shit and anything I come up on the drums is all mathy too and I think it would sound really cool if I could just actually write some coherent songs. |
wtferrothorn
09.18.16 | I'd see myself making a lot of chill, yet glitchy sample-based music. I've always found the idea of crafting sounds from ordinary objects really interesting. I could imagine making a concept album, where each track is made up of samples from different items used at different times of the day (alarm clock on the opener/cooking sounds/ honking cars, pedestrian chatter, etc. for a city track, office supplies like printers and staplers).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uyM2Q8aGp0 shit like this, except I'd try to go a bit more experimental and use sounds from all different kinds of things on a single track. |
FullOfSounds
09.18.16 | That's cool af ferro.
Also this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxncnVRv_cI |
MyNameIsPencil
09.18.16 | hopesfall 2.0 pretty much
post-hardcore + spacey atmosphere with maybe more emphasis on that space vibe than hopesfall did |
CaimanJesus
09.18.16 | Crust Punk or Folk |
wtferrothorn
09.18.16 | @Full For sure, I could definitely see myself making music with a Gold Panda vibe. The Tipper EP 'Fathoms' is the kinda style I'd want to make (and also some recs similar to it would be nice ;))) |
StallionMang
09.18.16 | prolly some indie-punk pixies ripoff type band, that'd be a dream |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | realized that my hypothetical band woulda sounded quite a bit like
Alabama shakes |
wtferrothorn
09.18.16 | I've also always thought of making a track made up entirely of firework samples, It'd be fucking fire.
Now I just gotta learn how to produce music : / |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | ^shoegaze
in my dream, I played one pop rock/blues song with a gazey outro. |
Futures
09.18.16 | 90s emo worship or old deathcore |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.16 | honestly, always wanted a record thats focused on dark shamanic tribal music with lyricless vocals with modern production and maybe some rock instruments but used minimally. no edm/ambient/electronic influences either which is what most of that music seems to focus on. so i guess if i had the skills id make that |
adr
09.18.16 | i had a dream once i was in a free jazz grindcore band i played the drums and we were pretty essential lol |
Snake.
09.18.16 | midwest emo with an emphasis on post-rock, dream pop, post-hardcore, and a pinch of slowcore and chamber pop |
LotusFlower
09.18.16 | Id want to spread out to styles and genres of all kinds, just to see what I can and can't do of what genres. |
ArizonaIcedOutBoys
09.18.16 | harsh noise. but circa 1986 harsh noise |
theBoneyKing
09.18.16 | I'd probably make folky Americana countryish stuff |
wtferrothorn
09.18.16 | Suprising answer from Sputnik's Resident Country Enthusiast |
theBoneyKing
09.18.16 | I know right? |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | my band ultimately decided to choose strong and "wholesome" songwriting
over quirky gimmicks or some shit. not to say we didn't have gimmicks
edit: our go-to gimmick was fuckin harmonica riffz m/ |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.16 | you probably got mad radio play huh |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | we were on a pitchfork band so there's room to hope!
probably only on indie stations - none of which I actually like T_T
indie stations are so bleh these days |
theBoneyKing
09.18.16 | Cyg that's exactly what my band would do too
We'd probably be boring af and never gain any traction |
SharkTooth
09.18.16 | stoner rock probably if I had a guitar and an amp and a pedal |
SharkTooth
09.18.16 | or if I had FL Studio I would prob be making some shitty synthwave |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | if I wasn't in some indie/blues/southern pop rock band
I would totally produce synthpop . synthpop is bae |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.16 | yea indie stations are garbage. indie is one of my least fav genres ever but i also am going off the shit on those garbage stations so |
SharkTooth
09.18.16 | "I would totally produce synthpop . synthpop is bae"
that sounds actually pretty cool
unless it sounds like Avicii or David Guetta, then it just sounds like the worst idea ever |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | avicii and Guetta generally aren't synthpop, closer to electropop and various forms of house. |
Storm In A Teacup
09.18.16 | how high were you when you made this list? |
Storm In A Teacup
09.18.16 | I'm working on my 2nd and 3rd LPs. Psychedelic with vocals and the other is electronic and dance and hip-hop oriented. |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | recovering from painkillers and an awful 4 hour drive
4 hours isn't even that long, but shit I felt awful afterward |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.16 | what happened? any drive over 2.5hrs sucks, but I just had to do a 22 hour drive with one hotel break and that was brutal |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | nothing special happened per se
but I did have to miss out on an important smash bros tournament that I could have easily gotten top 5 on. possibly top 2 (meaning I would get hella bank, that pot bonus was thicc).
honestly I preferred driving the long drive rather than being a passenger, but I could never imagine driving 22 hours x_x |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.16 | fuck do you play melee? |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | I play smash 4, but my melee game is pretty decent. I main peach, and tryna git gud with falco and Pikachu. |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.16 | yea definitely prefer being the driver. keeps you engaged, i drive stick too that helps. but yea moved to FL from CT a few months ago and had to hike all my shit over so I was by myself for the whole trip |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.16 | nice imma bitch so i play fox but im pretty decent, youd probably crush me. a few guys in my squad in college played that game pro level and it was hard just keeping it to a 2 stock game lol
never played 4 tho only melee |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | driving makes me feel alive tbh. all of my best jams sound even better in a car (shit bumps in the whip).
duuude, melee players are fuckin insane. they dedicated af, idk how they do it. but I tend to do really well against them, despite not owning melee. all about them fundamentals. |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.16 | its a proven fact that anything played in a car is a banger. ever play electricity on a highway? unbeatable
but yea def one of the most demanding games at a competetive lvl. tourneys are so fun to watch. i can wave dash n shit but nothing too fancy like multishining. theres something about spiking someone off yoshi story that nothing can compare to |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | lawd. i wanna really get into melee someday, it'll have to wait
and remember when i said that electricity makes me wanna drive off a cliff. well i said that bc it felt that way while driving on a high way.
i was like "...i should change the song before i do something stupid" |
Avagantamos
09.18.16 | hmm maybe like hip hop/glitch hop |
miketunneyiscool123
09.18.16 | Personally, I'd like to go in the direction of Faith No More as far as their eclectic take on different genres. |
Avagantamos
09.18.16 | the bass on the CD player in my car is really high, and even more the faster I drive. I have mista thug isolation in there right now and it slaps |
ArsMoriendi
09.18.16 | "we made bluesy, southern rock with r&b influences."
So like Alabama Shakes? |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | ars u slow fam
"realized that my hypothetical band woulda sounded quite a bit like Alabama shakes" + some creedence clearwater, led zeppelin (eww lmao) too !
coupled with particularly "indie" production... probably bc we were poor tho. |
ArsMoriendi
09.18.16 | I didn't read most of the comments sorry D:
For me: Maybe psychedelic noise rock
Like 80s Butthole Surfers or Ween's first album. I'd probably want to change genres from album to album though... |
BrandNewEyes
09.18.16 | slam, or heroin fueled sludge |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | ars u gud ^_^
"I'd probably want to change genres from album to album though..."
agreed with this actually. i imagined we'd move on to make bluesy/psych rock, but still with some southern/r&b shit later on. |
Pangea
09.18.16 | Indie rock probably |
iloveyouall
09.18.16 | noise pop with emphasis on the noiz |
CaimanJesus
09.18.16 | trap |
Keyblade
09.18.16 | g-funk |
SitruK6
09.18.16 | Shitty music most likely |
SitarHero
09.18.16 | I've been doing an alt prog kind of thing with some jazz and metal thrown in for fun...but what I really want to do right now is some synthwave/synthpop. |
tempest--
09.18.16 | i play drums mostly thrash metal or heavy/stoner sabbath-style stuff so i would dig making that kinda music or some electro indie pop shite |
Tunaboy45
09.18.16 | with my baritone it'd realistically be indie rock |
ChoccyPhilly
09.18.16 | If I could, music like Nils Frahm. Despite metal being the biggest chunk of my taste, I'd have no desire to make metal |
zakalwe
09.18.16 | Psychedelic rock with 70s punk venom. |
BallsDeep
09.18.16 | post blackened melodic doom metal. followed by synthpop |
Sinternet
09.18.16 | well i'm trying to teach myself music production atm so like deep house/techno would be my kind of thing. Trance and maybe electro house too if i wanted to make some quick cash. Other than that if i had the talent fr it i'd love to dome some kind of screamo/post-rock/black metal hybrid. Maybe some indie folk bullshit too idk. And hip-hop if i could rap. |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | I feel like with house and techno, i wouldnt know how to start, so id just pull some random shit and beats together until i get a handle on it. |
Typhoon24
09.18.16 | country rap tunes |
NeroCorleone80
09.18.16 | Probably some kind of noise rock/post-punk/sludge mix |
DoofusWainwright
09.18.16 | white boy reggae |
Deathconscious
09.18.16 | im just another folk musician. |
Gwyn.
09.18.16 | If you're asking what I'd want to do, I basically wanna do a bit of everything, but in terms of what I'd realistically do probably some powerviolence/hardcore band just because of the live shows |
Cygnatti
09.18.16 | Gywn, we're talking hypothetical so however ideally as you want.
Personally i would love to make experimental music of some kind, but i honestly dont know if i have what it takes. Whereas bluesy pop rock would be well within margins. ^_^ |
