Crack the Skye
This is probably their most progressive album to date, but that is not the reason this is my number one. The reason is, every song on this album is a classic.

Leviathan
The pinacle of Mastodon's early prog sludge style. Every song on this album superb, but still it's only Mastodon's second best album (that's saying something).

Blood Mountain
Mastodon's third album is a perfect balance between the heavy sludge of their early records and the magnificent prog of the following abums (especially CTS). Only real downside is that not every song is as good as the next, but I'm pretty much nitpicking.

Emperor of Sand
On their newest record Mastodon has perfected the sound they've had since their previous two records. This album has some of the best riffage and shredding Mastodon has ever done and the vocals are fantastic for the most part. Still some songs are less good than others and especially Show Yourself is pretty sub-par.

Remission
This album is a lot heavier than anything they have released after it, and I actually like the brutality and intensity of it a lot. I like to call the music on Remission "pseudo extreme metal".

Once More 'Round the Sun
On this album Mastodon took the more melodic style they had on The Hunter and made it a little bit better. That's all I can really say.

This album has many great songs, but there are also some crappy ones. The good ones outweigh the bad ones though.
