| In Flames Ranked
Yes another ranked list. Seeing them live next week for the first time and beyond hyped, my favourite band of all time even if their new stuff is shit the setlist looks pretty decent. Band basically got me into metal and is very special to me. In Flames we trust. | 1 | | In Flames Colony
5/5 fantastic lyrics, great hooks and amazing sense of melody, great instrumentation and has the band's best drumming. Takes the best elements of a good pop record in many ways without any form of compromise which in of itself is a huge achievement. Second favourite metal album ever and the best In Flames album. | 2 | | In Flames Clayman
4.7/5 I would still consider this In Flames' strangest album. The pop sensibilities were much more prominent than ever before here, very unorthodox songwriting, can't say I've ever heard any other album that really sounds like this. | 3 | | In Flames The Jester Race
4.5/5 Beautiful melodies that sometimes have a bit of even a folky vibe to them, intense heaviness while still being beautiful and mysterious. An album with a grand sense of intrigue that really lets the imagination wander. A captivating and beautiful album. | 4 | | In Flames A Sense of Purpose
4.3/5 Here comes the controversy! I still stand by that this easily among In Flames best efforts and shows the full potential of their modern sound. The album's only weakness is its piss poor lyrics. Great riffs that sound more 'In Flames' than anything they put out since Colony, this is In Flames coming back to form with what made them excellent in their earlier material. Absolutely love Anders gruff vocals on here, very strong hooks not only from the vocals but from the instruments as well, the band has great chemistry here and everyone gets time to shine. Consistently catchy, heavy and very fun. | 5 | | In Flames Reroute to Remain
4/5 I always think of Clayman and Reroute To Remain as being closely related albums. This followed up on the pop/ death metal orientation moving further into pop but this time putting a bigger focus on developing a sense of atmosphere and mood over Clayman. The production is sure as hell flawed on here but there are extremely interesting ideas, In Flames made some of their most emotionally poignant material for this release. There is a sense of suffocation and an airy, cavernous feel to the production that really goes along well with the album's theme of insanity and isolation. | 6 | | In Flames Whoracle
4/5 The cousin of Jester Race, much more in your face that in many ways felt more intentionally focused. Some of the band's absolute best riffs are found on this album, this is where In Flames decided to make a METAL album. However in doing so I can't help but feel it loses some of the mystery and magic that Jester Race had. | 7 | | In Flames Come Clarity
3.5/5 The cross-road album between Old In Flames and New In Flames. The angriest and most metalcore the band would ever perform. This was the album that got me into the band. Rather than being melodic and heavy the band took an approach of separating the two apart to contrast side by side. | 8 | | In Flames Sounds of a Playground Fading
3.4/5 With the riffs drastically toned back from A Sense Of Purpose, the band for the first time took a total backseat to Anders Friden. The particular focus on vocals allowed for the band to experiment in full pop territory and soaring melodies. The focus here is no longer on creating catchy metal songs but creating catchy vocal hooks, and creating a bigger stadium atmosphere. By having every band member focus around the vocals they together can create some beautiful and effective moments when they put their forces together. On some of the album's strongest moments the band sounds more focused than they have in years. | 9 | | In Flames Lunar Strain
3.3/5 The beginning building blocks of what would become a huge band and sub-genre. Shares many similarities with Jester Race and Whoracle but would go onto being more refined in those releases. Some great underrated riffs on here and includes one of the bands very best songs 'Behind Space'. | 10 | | In Flames Soundtrack to Your Escape
2.5/5 Very different from every other In Flames album, this is where the band hopped on the nu-metal bandwagon. The very strange drum tone and nu-metal riffage led to some interesting experimentation but unfortunately just too much of the album felt rehashed, stagnant and filler throughout. But songs like 'My Sweet Shadow' and 'The Quiet Place' show the band's potential with this sound. | 11 | | In Flames Battles
2/5 While most of the material on here is fucking awful, there are a few good cuts. The production is extremely overblown, the choruses are forced and the band has entered full radio rock territory. There are a few notable throwbacks to older material that nods to old fans such as Through My Eyes and catchy hooks but most simply fall very flat. | 12 | | In Flames Siren Charms
1.5/5 In Flames' other metalcore album. The simpliest riffs the band ever implemented, the melody the band is known for is notabley missing to the point where it hardly even sounds like In Flames. The signature sound is almost all but totally gone and replaced with overblown choruses. This is In Flames' first truly terrible album. | |
Nazzadan
11.15.16 | ASoP way too high for my tastes, other than that and leaving off Lunar Strain this ranking is okay.
I'd put Jester Race at the top and Subterranean right below it | Funeralopolis
11.15.16 | oh damn forgot lunar strain | Nazzadan
11.15.16 | Everyone forgets Lunar Strain | BallsDeep
11.15.16 | get 4 the fuck outta here otherwise i pretty much agree, altho ratings are all a bit inflated | Storm In A Teacup
11.15.16 | lmao poor Lunar Strain | DarkSideOfLucca
11.15.16 | 1, 3 and 6 are 1. What is 6 doing below 4 and 5? What is this? | Storm In A Teacup
11.15.16 | 6 is where it should be but 7 is 1 | Flugmorph
11.15.16 | WHAT
6 is 1 | Relinquished
11.15.16 | weird ranking man, I'm all 1, 2, 3, and 6. gave the stuff after those a chance and it rubbed me so wrong. ignored them after 4 was released, I knew they wouldn't go back to quality. | DarkSideOfLucca
11.15.16 | "but 7 is 1"
Above Jester Race? That's offensive. | TheCrocodile
11.15.16 | we actually have the same top 6 except not in the same order | Insurrection
11.15.16 | interesting ranking to say the least lol 4 and 5 are wayyy high but i agree theyre not as shitty as people make them out to be
for me it's something like lunar strain=jester race=subterranean > colony=clayman > whoracle > come clarity > sounds of a playground fading > reroute=sense of purpose > soundtrack to your escape > siren charms > battles | Kronzo
11.15.16 | A Sense of Purpose is my favourite modern In Flames album, but I'd give it a 3.5 instead of a 4 | Flugmorph
11.15.16 | its time for sense of purpose to get a lil more love yo | Flugmorph
11.15.16 | i like your writeups 'opolis man | TheTripP
11.15.16 | Jamming Colony now... what happened to this poor band... | BeyondCosby
11.15.16 | Come Clarity is the only album of their's that I've actually listened to. May have to check the rest out. | EvoHavok

11.15.16 | Whoracle>Jester Race>Colony>Come Clarity>RTR>STYE>Clayman..................................daylight............the rest | DungeonBoy
11.15.16 | Jester Race, Whoracle, Colony, Clayman, should always be top 4. Do whatever you want after that. | EvoHavok
11.15.16 | Very nice descriptions, btw.

11.16.16 | 6 is 1. | Space Jester
11.16.16 | did anyone say In Flames? [2] | Space Jester
11.16.16 | Also fuck me but I actually can't bring myself to hate anything this band has done, regardless of how objectively bad they are. Their classic stuff is obviously top-tier but I enjoy all of their later work, STYE and CC are really great albums. STYE in particular is pretty misunderstood I think | twwerkcity
11.16.16 | To me Clayman has some of their best songs and melodies and it has a perfect blend of poppyness and hooks without abandoning or sacrificing heaviness or metal influences. Only for the weak is definitely one of the best metal songs ever. The first 3 songs are a killer stretch. I wish other melodic death metal was as good as these guys peak years. | bgillesp
11.16.16 | I agree w/ jester head about STYE and CC but I can still hate their most recent two (although I see a bit more merit in them than most people) | Spec
11.16.16 | strange ranking but i can dig it for the most part
colony is dope |
