01.03.17 | Doof you already know which one i'm gonna rec for 2016 lol. |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | Rules are 1 vote (2016 or 1977) and one rec for each year only (if you've got a '77 rec).
The winning recs will make it onto the list, good luck! |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | Dan I think this will be a surprisingly tight vote lol |
danielcardoso
01.03.17 | Not willing to vote just yet but feel free to put up my rec.
Regina Spektor - Remember Us To Life. Super obvious coming from me yeah :] |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | The 2016 aren't my top 50 but are a selection of ones I couldn't leave off due to liking them so much combined with what I expect is the most popular/well known stuff I had rated 3+. |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | dan - I've spun it, has to be something I missed.
I'll put her up instead of Neurosis (have them rated the same so no issue there). |
Dewinged
01.03.17 | I just realized I was born in an amazing year. |
anat
01.03.17 | biased vote for 2016
2016 rec is skeleton tree just cos i'm surprised you omitted it
|
anat
01.03.17 | also your 2016 selection is surely doof-influenced cos not many others give (as much of) a shit about boy king |
Dewinged
01.03.17 | Holy shit I mentally rec'd 94 |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | anatelier - that's a mistake, I'll put it up so please rec again.
The list is Doof influenced majorly as were all these lists in the series, this time I tried to order them in some sort of popularity and I omitted albums I prefer for things like Bon Iver and Wilco (which I have at 3's).
I refused to put up anything I rated lower than a 3 though. |
anat
01.03.17 | in that case, i will rec jeff rosenstock - worry |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | Dewinged - '94 is my personal favourite year...and I keep on finding more great albums from it. Just this last week I 5'd Low's debut and 4.5'd the Bedhead's debut from that year. |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | I'll check the Rosenstock again but I'll admit I didn't like it too much on my first listen. |
anat
01.03.17 | it's a better overall album than PUP's dream is over, which you like enough |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | I'll give it at least another couple of spins, think it's still top 10 rated for the year on the chart so it must have something about it |
Dewinged
01.03.17 | I was talking about CoL & Julie Christmas at 94 Doofus, :D
But agree, '94 was a great year for music. Portishead's Dummy, Kyuss' Sky Valley or The Crow OST would do it for me. |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | Ah, that makes more sense. Have you got a rec in mind Dewinged? |
TVC15
01.03.17 | 77 is easily the winner sorry '16 |
wham49
01.03.17 | is this really a thing, cannot even compare |
danielcardoso
01.03.17 | Damn just realized you have 99% objectivity. Not really a significant stat but its still an impressive feat i should say lol. |
TVC15
01.03.17 | 77 and 94 would make for a far tougher competition |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | it's kinda a joke wham, basically a different way of asking for some late 2016 recs - plus, you look at the lists and 2016 deserves to be compared to the great years of music history imo |
Dewinged
01.03.17 | Ummm I'm a big fan of Emma Ruth Rundle's Marked for Death but it wasn't very popular around here. What about Agnes Obel or Angel Olsen latests? |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | TVC - 94 has got stronger for me since they clashed in the previous list...now I'd vote 1994
Also just realised I haven't listened to those Boris mixes yet, holiday season has screwed up my normal schedule xD |
wham49
01.03.17 | IK, just playing stupid, however around here you never know |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | Dewinged I've listened to all three, loved the Obel, Olsen didn't really click but the Ruth Rundle I should maybe give another try. It blurred a bit for me on first listen, would be interested to see if it grows on me. |
danielcardoso
01.03.17 | Oh if you've already heard Regina i could probably rec you Jenny Hval - Blood Bitch instead. |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | dan that's a good rec, that was one I meant to check before the end of 2016 nice |
Dylan620
01.03.17 | 2016.
Not entirely sure if it'll be your cup of tea but:
Wildhart - Shine |
Dylan620
01.03.17 | "one rec for each year only (if you've got a '77 rec)"
Hang on a second - so if someone wanted to rec two albums from 2016 and zero albums from 1977 (or vice-versa), could they do so? Or is it strictly one rec per year, with the only way to rec two albums being to rec one album from each year? |
Dewinged
01.03.17 | I'd go with Jenny Hval as Daniel said if you don't dig the Rundle album, but I think you'll dig it. |
TwigTW
01.03.17 | My vote goes to '77, and my rec is Radical Face - The Family Tree: The Leaves. |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | Twig I know you've got a '77 rec left in you too |
SandwichBubble
01.03.17 | 1977
Michael Rother - Flammende Herzen
|
TVC15
01.03.17 | It's ok bb take your time |
TwigTW
01.03.17 | Lol, you know I do. Thought it was just one rec, give me a minute... |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | Dewinged, I do think the album is 'good' at the very least, just a question of if it grows beyond that, hoping it does |
Divaman
01.03.17 | Vote - 1977
1977 - Styx - The Grand Illusion
2016 - Bayside - Vacancy |
DoofusWainwright
01.03.17 | Diva in there with the double recs, appreciated |
Divaman
01.03.17 | Had to edit it, Doof. Started rec'ing you Kansas - Point of Know Return, then switched it Styx, and forgot to change the name of the album. It's correct now. |
TwigTW
01.04.17 | I'm surprised you have no Elvis Costello rated, so my '77 rec is My Aim Is True. |
Divaman
01.04.17 | Good one, Twig.
|
TwigTW
01.04.17 | Thanks--I'd rec My Aim Is True, but that wasn't released until '78. |
DoofusWainwright
01.04.17 | Think some places (well, RYM at least) it's down as '77 so I'll chuck it into the mix. I've dabbled in a little Costello before and wasn't at all sure so we'll see how I get on. |
zakalwe
01.04.17 | Woah!!
'77. |
TwigTW
01.04.17 | RYM is never wrong. Have you ever tried to add an album to their database? You have to provide documentation for everything, but I'm getting off track...
The first three Elvis Costello albums are classics, but after that it is hit and miss. You have to be careful where you dive into his catalog. |
DoofusWainwright
01.04.17 | Zak I need a rec for each year if you've got 'em
Twig, I've never tried entering anything into RYM, the least user friendly site I think I've ever encountered |
TwigTW
01.04.17 | agreed |
Yotimi
01.05.17 | vote: 77
Recs:
2016: Orior - Strange Beauty
1977: Gil Scot Herron and Brian Jackson - Bridges |
DoofusWainwright
01.05.17 | Thanks Yotimi |
