03.15.17 | I'm in Canada, and luckily they're getting bought out by another record store here so it's not all bad |

03.15.17 | They're closing here in Canada too. I believe Sunrise, another album store, is taking their place which is kinda weird because I thought they went bankrupt too.
It was also weird seeing HMV even selling the employee uniforms and shit lol. I bought a Jaws t-shirt and the new A Tribe Called Quest vinyl. |
Demon of the Fall
03.15.17 | Does anyone know if you buy from HMV Canada when based in the UK? Sounds so crazy cheap that postage would be fine by me.
Apologies to the people of Canada that are disappointed though... |

What does this mean? No one buys music from HMV anymore because their selection sucks & what they do have is overpriced. The only people interested in buying the physical copies they sell are dedicated music fans who look for stuff outside of the mainstream. The problem at HMV is this music is expensive (if you can find it at all) which is why I just buy from Amazon etc. instead. |

03.15.17 | As a former employee it's really difficult to watch it going under when it just simply refused to adapt to the digital age. |
Demon of the Fall
03.15.17 | I don't know what it's like elsewhere but in the UK they cut down the music selection and added extra DVDs, computer games & misc. merchandise (read: crap) that was in some way music/TV related. It has become less & less relevant to music fans. If someone who still buys physical copies (i.e. me) very rarely buys anything from them you know they're doing it wrong, compounded by the awkward attempt at versatility whilst simultaneously refusing to embrace the digital market. |

03.15.17 | Agreed with you Sunlight. Most of the selection is now DVDs and blu-rays. I feel like music has taken a backseat for quite some time.
And yeah, poor selection and way expensive. Amazon is the way to go. |

03.15.17 | Sunlight, surely your remember a time when stores like HMV were everywhere. The problems you're describing are symptoms of one of the last major holdouts of the major label, album sales driven music industry model failing to remain relevant. I would argue that their business mistakes and failure were inevitable rather than avoidable. Obviously the music industry front-end model that they represent has been long dead, but HMV packing it in is still symbolic. |
Demon of the Fall
03.15.17 | It probably was inevitable, I don't doubt that... I just don't understand why continuing to cater to the casual music listener was ever going to work - they did that by reducing their range & only selling mainstream music, the type of music which is now seldom bought in a physical format by anyone. |

03.15.17 | I miss HMV, spent so many Saturdays there searching through the bins for music. |
NorwichScene
03.15.17 | They closed about 2 years ago in U.K, then re-opened about half the stores. Rarely go in mine, still buy from them online |
