Papa Universe
06.18.17 | I predict a feature... |
verdant
06.18.17 | probably doesn't deserve it, considering it's just a basic best of list but thank you kind sir |
Papa Universe
06.18.17 | It would have been basic had you not put any effort into explaining your stances, but you did and I believe that the all powerful deities of Sputnik administration might very well appreciate that. |
verdant
06.18.17 | everything deserves effort. shine down upon me oh sputnik deities ") |
calmrose
06.18.17 | Bearcubs - Underwaterfall
Forest Swords - Compassion
A/T/O/S - Outboxed
I M U R - Little Death
'68 - Two Parts Viper |
verdant
06.19.17 | thanks! forest swords almost made it |
verdant
06.19.17 | bumping because i forgot the one that probably needs the most attention |
Dewinged
06.19.17 | Interesting list man, gotta check some of these, but 3 and 6 are pretty good. I would rec you this:
Grails - Chalice Hymnal
Noveller - A Pink Sunset for No One
Fink - Fink's Sunday Night Blues Club Vol. 1
These are all pretty chill, if you want smth more metalish I work with those too ;)
|
verdant
06.19.17 | cheers manuel, would like some metal reccs too if that's cool?
will check out the first two, fink have always kinda bored me apart from that one song ahahah |
lukeofthelip
06.19.17 | thanks for putting me on here man, will check out those Nodachi and Paper Void releases they seem really cool |
Dewinged
06.19.17 | hahaha if Fink's music bores you don't check that album because that is probably his most boring album up to date lol.
Metal wise I really liked King Woman - Created in the Image of Suffering but few folks here liked it, it's basically doom female fronted, her voice is not for everyone and it took me some time to get used to it but once it clicked...aaaah, one of my fave this year.
Pallbearer's latest is also pretty interesting, also doomish. Then, if you feel like some Alt metal ala Alter Bridge kind of thing check Evenline - In Tenebris, french band, pretty unknow, but very good.
And last but not least, some Spanish fellowmen called Exquirla. The album is called Para Quienes Aun Viven. Post rock with flamenco, cool stuff.
That's all I've got!
|
verdant
06.19.17 | oh fuck yeah i heard that Pallbearer record that was actually really good, i should check it out again. i'll get back to on the other ones they seem interesting.
luke: no worries man, deserves it |
Papa Universe
06.19.17 | Here's some checkoutable music from 2017 (no extreme Metal, as you don't seem to be interested in that...besides Nodachi):
The Magnetic Fields - 50 Song Memoir (Singer-Songwriter Pop)
Brutus - Burst (Post-Hardcore Metalcore-ish)
Cold War Kids - LA Divine (Piano Pop Rock)
Dark Model - Saga (Epic Techno)
Hanni El Khatib - Savage Times (Psych-Blues-Rock)
Kasabian - For Crying Out Loud (Chap-Rock)
Oddisee - The Iceberg (Hip-Hop as fuck)
Porcelain Raft - Microclimate (Electropop)
Spoon - Hot Thoughts (Pop Rock)
The Afghan Whigs - In Spades (Goth-ish Post-Punk-ish Artsiness)
The Angelus - There Will Be No Peace (Doom-Folk...yes, that exists and it sounds amazing)
The Black Angels - Death Song (Psych-Rock with a strong emotional edge)
The Menzingers - After The Party (Emo AOTY)
The New Pornographers - Whiteout Conditions (Pop-Rock)
Wax Fang - Victory Laps (Electronic Prog-Pop-Rock)
White Reaper - The World's Best American Band (the name says it all)
Xiu Xiu - Forget (Art-Pop) |
butcherboy
06.19.17 | Unique, stop plugging Cold War Kids, dammit! |
verdant
06.19.17 | oiiii butcher what do you have against cold war kids???! they have some amazing songs but i didn't know they put something out this year ")
and Unique i'm interested in extreme metal! thanks for the recs too tho |
butcherboy
06.19.17 | like all cold war kids, they're sleeper agents, Land.. snuck into the country and given new identities to put out bland indie music and slowly unravel the American recording industry.. Robbers and Cowards was alright though |
verdant
06.19.17 | ahahah Audience was my favourite song for a bit. Something is Not Right With Me is great, too. i shudder to think what they've done to the music industry if what you say is true :~))) |
butcherboy
06.19.17 | hahaha.. I think cold toes on the cold floor was the most recent of theirs I liked.. skinny white guy from Long Beach doing the southern preacher thing sometimes riles me.. |
verdant
06.19.17 | ever heard St Paul and the Broken Bones?
not from Long Beach but the vocalist preaches better than most preachers do |
butcherboy
06.19.17 | I trust you, Land, so I'll check them out.. but this is very much a teaching me to ride a bike moment.. if it all goes wrong, things will never be the same!! |
verdant
06.19.17 | it all depends on if you like soul
by the way, should i keep doing these soundoff-type descriptions for my lists or is it superfluous? |
butcherboy
06.19.17 | I don't think it's superfluous at all.. in fact, it shows that you actually have things to say about the music you like.. keep it up! |
verdant
06.19.17 | thanks butcher, just don't wanna sound pretentious at all. very persistent concern of mine unfortunately ahahahah |
Papa Universe
06.19.17 | Land, do not listen to that hater of happiness! Cold War Kids are missionaries set out to brighten up your days with audio equivalents of sunshine. Their latest album is a melodic and catchy fun little endeavour of pretty care-free joy with some damn fantastic vocals. Go give them a listen, butcherboy just wants to sway you into his mildly depressed underground shoegaze worshipping den. |
Papa Universe
06.19.17 | And about that extreme metal, here you go:
Nightbringer - Terra Damnata
Shaarmioth - Temple of the Adversial Fire
Succumb - S/T
The Great Old Ones - EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy
Violet Cold - Anomie
White Ward - Futility Report
Sinmara / Misthyrming - Split EP
Cold War Kids - LA Divine Metal Remix |
butcherboy
06.19.17 | Hahahaha, not shoegaze, scuzzy post-punk.. everything else is right on the money though.. |
Papa Universe
06.19.17 | ah you |
verdant
06.19.17 | i have a foot in either camp guys, been especially trying to get into post punk recently. butcher have you actually listened to IDLES (the album on the list is their debut)? i reckon they'd be right up your alley |
Papa Universe
06.19.17 | If you want yourself some Post-Punk, last year's Preoccupations was some of the best I've heard in years. |
butcherboy
06.19.17 | Loved IDLES! and I second Preoccupations.. some of the best recent music in this category today,, |
BlushfulHippocrene
06.19.17 | Nice, dude! Love your description for five. 8 looks fascinating. |
verdant
06.19.17 | thanks blushful! check it out and lemme know what you think
Preoccupations is so great, although i think of it as noise rock more than post punk |
luci
06.19.17 | "would like some metal reccs too if that's cool?"
elder's record is the trendy metal for indie listeners this year. but it's respected across the board, no one can deny it rules |
Papa Universe
06.19.17 | "Preoccupations is so great, although i think of it as noise rock more than post punk"
okay, I'm not following, in what way was it a Noise Rock album? |
verdant
06.19.17 | oh shit i think i'm thinking of Women? i'll listen to preoccupations now, the only song i've heard from them is Continental Shelf. i got confused between the two incarnations of the band i reckon
and thanks lucid |
Papa Universe
06.19.17 | I mean they had some Noisy influences initially, but now they gave in to the traditionalist Post-Punk completely. Now it just has some loud parts (like the song Memory...god that is good), but definitely not Noise Rock. |
BlazinBlitzer
06.19.17 | 9 is really cool. |
verdant
06.20.17 | apologies unique, i shall educate myself accordingly ahahaha
blazin, isn't it? |
BlazinBlitzer
06.20.17 | Totally! I really like classical with a lot of edge and Beholding certainly did a great job in that regard. |
Papa Universe
06.20.17 | Oh, whilst still talking about modern Post-Punk, check out Have a Nice Life, although they are not particularly an orthodox Post-Punk band, fusing in some Noise and Shoegaze. |
verdant
06.21.17 | unique!!! yes!! deathconsciousness is an absolutely incredible album i love it |
Frivolous
07.04.17 | you should check out Landlady's The World is a Loud Place. Pretty neat art rock/indie rock album (apologies if recc's not wanted atm) |
verdant
07.04.17 | always welcome, will check :) |
