07.10.17 | Wow, props for 1 on 1. It's the only one I really, really enjoy. Too bad that one of all is a remake. Well, never thought to see it on that spot anyway, so good job. :) 2 on 2 also seems right. But somehow I feel True Romance is missing. I know he didn't direct it and Tony did, but it still counts as a full-fledged Tarantino movie in my head |

07.10.17 | Yeah this is bad |
JWT155
07.10.17 | I think it's hard for me to rate his movies, especially in since I value them in different ways. Pulp Fiction is his masterpiece, Inglorious Basterds to me was the most enjoyable viewing in theaters, Django was fantastic, Hateful 8 was really good and I enjoyed almost the play like mystery aspect of it, same as Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill was ambitious and mostly delivers. |
yanquiuxo
07.10.17 | to make a movie like Hateful 8 you probably have to see all damn western movies done before... Anyway, yeah i can see why people say Pulp Fiction is his best, but Reservoir Dogs is the one i enjoy the most every time i see it |
AngryJohnny
07.10.17 | Having not seen hateful 8 I'd say this ain't too bad apart from Pulp Fiction being 1 |
butcherboy
07.10.17 | Unique, there's a point past spaghetti western kitsch when movies just become glazed Christmas hams.. Django in particular jogs right past exploitation homage and into utter shit |

07.10.17 | It is.
A) Another Western? (I LOVE WESTERNS) Mix it up. B) The Cast? for fuck sake, what a bunch of wasted talent. Basically an ensemble cast full of minor unmemorable roles. C) Samuel L. Jackson's 'suck my dick' flash back seemed like it was only there for shock value and QT is better than that. |

@dbizzles It has many defects indeed, like the one you mentioned about the characters, i agree with it. The ending was a little disappointing too. Still not a bad movie to me, script is so good |
dbizzles
07.10.17 | 'He's proven often enough that he isn't tbh'
That was an egregious example and I guess I disagree if you are saying he hasn't proven he's better than shock value. There's a difference between shock value and being over-the-top.
@yanquiuxo I didn't think it was bad per se, I just feel like it was very weak. I wish he'd scrapped it when the script was leaked like he said he was going to. I don't think any of his movies suck. I'm a total fanboy. |
Rik VII
07.10.17 | I mean yeah, he obviously can do better than shock value, but what I meant was that he never was 'above' it |

Inglourious Basterds was a master class in suspense building. Does Quentin have a better scene than that opening (actually asking for opinions)? |

Even within Inglorious, there is that "Apfelstrudel" scene that I would consider at least equal. My favorite Tarantino scene in general gotta be Mr. Wolf in Pulp Fiction though |
yanquiuxo
07.10.17 | @TheSpaceMan I did not say i do not respect their opinion, i just said it's annoying, because it's not even their fault in most cases. Here in italy for example, schools of any grade do not mention Cinema at all, and you're lucky if professors make you see 4 movies in 5 years. I don't know how it works in your country, but i think that the lack of Music and Film education in my country, it's so embarrassing |

07.13.17 | You're telling me Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained are the same? |
Intothepit
07.13.17 | They're not, but pretty much anything after Jackie Brown is a movie about someone seeking vengeance. The Kill Bill series, Django, Inglorious Basterds, even Death Proof.
The dialogue in each movie is almost similar. Long diatribes about vengeance and violence.
It's all the same. The guy either ran out of gas or fell deeply in love with his own style and isn't willing to admit that it doesn't necessarily work anymore. |
Rik VII
07.14.17 | You could even say similar things about Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and True Romance (script-wise). Mind that all of these scripts were written around the same time, and some dialogue he wrote without even knowing where it would flow into. Like, the infamous Dennis Hopper dialogue in True Romance was inspired (or quoted) by a discussion that he overheared or something like that. He wrote it into that part and some time later decided which script would have it. And, be honest - if you swapped the opening dialogues of Reservoir Dogs and True Romance, I don't think anything about the movies themselves would change. That's because he wrote a bunch of dialogues and threw them into scripts, and most of the dialogue literally could have been in one of the other movies instead. And it shows. The Hopper dialogue is funny, but what does it add to the story or the film as a piece of art? Just a funny scene to be honest. Especially because none of the characters talking ever appear again in a scene that's in the middle of the film. It's just totally incoherent. (but it's a good scene nonetheless)
And Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds are the same movie in a different setting. |
