07.17.17 | too bored to add others ahaha, one day i'll complete this with at least 10 more movies. I leaved out some great ones like Aurora, The man who wasn't there, 2001, The Wild Bunch, Wings of desire etc.... |
Rik VII
07.17.17 | Nice to see some Bergman, he's one of my favorites, even though my favorites by him are Seventh Seal and Autumn Sonata |

07.17.17 | list is pretty fucking great!! what're your thoughts on seijun Suzuki? |
yanquiuxo
07.17.17 | @butcherboy
I'm not that much into japanese filmmakers but i had a professor in Florence that was crazy about 'em so i heard Suzuki's name but at the time i was totally addicted to Tarkovskij's vision (his books on film theory are incredibly inspiring)and still have to watch several japanese films. however, i love Kurosawa and really appreciate Kitano and Mijazaki
btw thank you so much, i'll add him to the queue
p.s.
I'm curious about what you guys think of Pasolini; his name in italy is less spoken than ever... |
butcherboy
07.17.17 | From a purely artistic standpoint, Pasolini is a genius if only for de-censoring the puritanism in cinema (or at least having some effects on it..) Aside from 120 days of Sodom, I think both Hawks and Sparrows and Theorem are fantastic movies, but I watched both of them in Russian, and from what I understand, his script translations into other languages have never been done very well.. |
yanquiuxo
07.17.17 | yep, translations always end up shitty due to the use of Roman dialect, which is present in most Pasolini's films. Nice to see Hawks and Sparrows with the beloved Totò, i love it. He surely had some effects on italian society, but paid them with his life... for example he was writing some scandalous shit about the owner of ENI ( an italian multinational oil and gas company) before being shamefully massacred |
butcherboy
07.17.17 | that's pretty much the only advancement civilized society has made.. nowadays, in order to silence outspoken artists, instead of murder, the state, big business and radicals do it with public relations campaigns and marketing smears on twitter.. |

07.17.17 | you said it... |

07.17.17 | I always see lists like this and think "Man I don't have an artsy enough taste in movies".
I've seen 1, 4, and 17. Need to rewatch 1 because I haven't seen it since it came out on DVD. Love 4, though. |

Same as me with music ahah, my defect is that i'm a little selective and as much as i like a bunch of musicians so much, i really don't enjoy many genres. I'm absolutely more into cinema than music |
