Heartless
Soundwise, Pallbearer's set was spot on. The guitar tone was perfect, the vocals were every bit as melancholic and emotional as on record, and the whole experience was very immersive. Sure, only four songs were played, but those four marked the incredible talent this band has had in their wake since day one. | | 2 |  | Myrkur
Mareridt
I didn't really gel with Myrkur's performance until I head Amalie's soaring vocals, and then it all gelled with my hearing. I understood that, whatever you think of Myrkur's work in the studio, the live performance is something else entirely. Hatred For Mankind
Well, I walked into this band's set having never heard their music before, and left an undoubtedly euphoric fan. The sound was so crushing, so inhumanely neolithic and chaotic that I couldn't help but feel entranced. I'm sure I'd enjoy the band's studio efforts beforehand given that the fusion of styles DiS offer is certainly my thing, but the live performance was so enthralling I don't think it mattered that I hadn't listened to them before. | | 4 |  | Mutation

At this point I'm convinced anything Ginger wildheart is involved with musically deserves anyone's attention, especially if you're the sort who loves their music noisy, gnarly and menacing. I only found out about Mutation earlier on this year but seeing them play their set live on the smallest stage of the four was certainly a great decision on my part. I had to check the popping in my ears to make sure they weren't bleeding after hearing Mutation's mania live. | | 5 |  | Sodom
Agent Orange
Yes, I'm aware I haven't been a fan of Sodom's last few albums, but their set last Saturday was absolutely enthralling. Even "Stigmatized"-the only song on the setlist to be played from any album after In War and Pieces-was delivered with the utmost aggression and precision. I was pulled apart from one moshpit to the next whilst flailing my horns in the air like a lunatic, and I'm sure at some point in this ungodly hour that I realized Sodom, after 35 years going strong and probably many more, are a band who don't let up when they're on a stage in front of 1000s of metalheads. | | 6 |  | Bloodbath
Grand Morbid Funeral
To say Nick Holmes had the hard-working task of being in two different bands on the same stage and on the same day, his performance in both Paradise Lost and Bloodbath was brilliant. I liked Paradise Lost, but this was the 5th time I'd seen them live and I sort of knew what to expect both musically and setlist-wise. Bloodbath? It felt like I was flung into a dimension where gore, death and hellfire reigned supreme. The whole set for Bloodbath felt like one of my weekly karate workouts where I don't stop sweating until the very end. It was that good. They didn't play "Bathe in Blood" unfortunately, but I'm not complaining when I got to witness "Eaten" being played as an encore and the maniacal "Outnumbering the Day" and "Breeding Death" played live. | |
