My 2017 Playlist

Just some of my favorite songs of the year (1 per artist) put together in a (mostly) cohesive and flowing playlist. A lot of these flow exceptionally well together I've found despite being strange genre combinations. There are plenty of other "favorite" songs of the year I could've included but didn't because I couldn't or was too lazy to find a place for them, and it's already long enough at 2.6ish hrs.
1Caligula's Horse
In Contact

Graves [prog metal]
A great playlist opener as it patiently builds. It connects well with Kasvot too, so the playlist can be looped.
2Exquirla
Para Quienes Aún Viven

Un Hombre [post-flamenco]
3Oxbow
Thin Black Duke

The Upper [noise rock?]
4Chelsea Wolfe
Hiss Spun

16 Psyche [sludge/gothic]
5Forest Swords
Compassion

Panic [electronic]
6Brand New
Science Fiction

Lit Me Up [emo/indie/sput]
7Gang of Youths
Go Farther in Lightness

Achilles Come Down [indie w/ strings]
8Tyler, the Creator
Flower Boy

Who Dat Boy [hip hop]
This one fits surprisingly well after Achilles.
9Bjork
Utopia

Body Memory [Bjork]
This one doesn't exactly fit perfectly after Who Dat Boy (shocker), but it's not bad. I considered having this be the opener and ending with Tyler, but I like this structure a bit better, so forgive this transition.
10The Tiger Lillies
Cold Night in Soho

Cold Night in Soho [gothic?]
11The Magnetic Fields
50 Song Memoir

'70: They're Killing Children Over There [hipster memoir]
A little humor before the mood killer.
12Mount Eerie
A Crow Looked At Me

Crow [depression-core/Genres Fail]
This is the happiest (if you can say that) song on the album so you can stand it here.
13Linkin Park
One More Light

One More Light [pop]
If you don't like this song, you have no heart. It works great to bring you back out from Crow.
14The Necromancers
Servants of the Salem Girl

Salem Girl Pt. 1 [stoner metal]
And we're back out of the feels. This still flows out surprisingly well.
15Portugal. The Man
Woodstock

Feel it Still [indie dance]
Overplayed but still a killer song that again fits surprisingly well here.
16Perfume Genius
No Shape

Wreath [indie pop/rock]
17CHON
Homey

Sleepy Tea [math rock]
18Pain of Salvation
In the Passing Light of Day

Meaningless [prog metal]
19Amenra
Mass VI

A Solitary Reign [sludge?]
20Christian Scott
The Emancipation Procrastination

Videotape [jazz/fusion]
Yes it is a Radiohead cover.
21Protomartyr
Relatives In Descent

A Private Understanding [post-punk]
22The Afghan Whigs
In Spades

Toy Automatic [indie grunge]
23Arcane Roots
Melancholia Hymns

Solemn [prog/alt rock]
24Fleet Foxes
Crack-Up

I Am All That I Need / Arroyo Seco / Thumbprint Scar [prog-folk]
25Kendrick Lamar
DAMN.

DNA. [hip hop]
Purposefully jarring transition
26Tricky
Ununiform

Blood of My Blood [trip hop/alt-hip hop]
27Big K.R.I.T.
4eva Is a Mighty Long Time

Get Away [southern hip hop]
28Lil Peep
Come Over When You're Sober

Save that S**t [emo hip hop]
Maybe this one isn't the best for this list but it is good and is a bridge back out of hip hop.
29Kauan
Kaiho

Kasvot [post rock]
A great playlist closer, but also good for looping back into Graves.
