03.29.18 | Isis is the GOAT. Trying to find a bit less known stuff to add to my armoire of post hardcore/post rock tunes. Adding Frameworks and Buried Inside to the list tho |
DinosaurJones
03.29.18 | Oh, yeh, that was a song. It's from the Small Victories EP. My bad, should have specified. |
pjquinones747
03.29.18 | Old Chokes doesn't seem to be in Sput's database, @Dino. Got 'em written down, though.
Edit: Gotcha |
DungeonBoy
03.29.18 | Yeah man.. you ever jam the mighty Burst from Sweden? If not definitely add Lazarus Bird to your list. Origo and Prey on Life are also killer |
HarryBoBerry
03.29.18 | Great list. I like these sound fusions. Def check out Burst as mentioned. Also, Amia Venera Landscape is what you're looking for. |
DungeonBoy
03.29.18 | lol dude, I looked at that Underoath cover really quickly and thought it was Amia Venera Landscape which is why I rec'd the ones I did haha. oh boy. still applies though |
JustJoe.
03.29.18 | Envy? Amia Venera Landscape?
I don't know, honestly. |
pjquinones747
03.29.18 | Amia Venera Landscape I tried before I really understood post-metal so I'm sure I'll enjoy them a lot more now. But probably sad cuz that band simply doesn't give a fuck enough to release new music anymore. |
JustJoe.
03.29.18 | They're not going to top that album. I applaud their restraint & or inability to live up to that. Not enough bands/artists know when to hang it up. |
pjquinones747
03.29.18 | You know, that's a great way to look at it. The band I'm in has been writing some really good stuff and I'm worried that the formula will dry up or we won't be able to replicate what we've been writing...
...on the other hand if nobody else gives a shit about it like we do then I guess we don't have to worry about that do we? |
JustJoe.
03.29.18 | Fair assessment. I always wondered about that. If music is how you literally express yourself best, how do you just stop making it? Is the key just recording it for your own purposes & not release it? Or do you hope that your fans will get where you're headed or that history will absolve you, in the instance of a poor [string of] releases.
Also, I feel like Relinquished has the answers you seek, in terms of this list, though I could be mistaken. |

03.29.18 | I honestly think that all the time I've been spending on Sputnik has helped me find definitive examples of bands that make seamless transitions from one style to the other while remaining fresh. Those artists are prodigiously talented however, as I'm sure it's all easier said than done. Gojira is a prime example of this. You can never guarantee that a band will succeed in transitioning styles. As long as the style of my band has a consonant theme as far as the "feel" the music gives you, I personally would call it a success. Fans of old will hate the new no matter what you do because of their own personal connections to the music, so being able to release control over the situation is probably the most important aspect of all of this. |
JustJoe.
03.29.18 | Well said, dude. |
pjquinones747
03.29.18 | I spend quite a bit of time thinking about this sort of thing, lol. |
MarsKid
03.29.18 | Sights and Sounds - Monolith
(If you haven't already) |
JustJoe.
03.29.18 | It's a good thing. I fear that sometimes, as listeners, we let the music speak for us too much, without allowing enough room for our own experiences. I try & watch myself in that regard. Maybe that's just a personal problem I've had though. |
pjquinones747
03.29.18 | I have the unique opportunity, being the drummer, that I also write lyrics. When I write and those songs get used, it often forces me to become emotionally connected with the ones that are more than just tales about mythical beasts or whatever. Those ones with true meaning to me are the ones that I think will resonate with people, and I constantly get worried that I'll end up running out of steam and that newer songs will pale in comparison to the genuine nature of older ones.
@Mars, I'll add it! |
Snake.
03.29.18 | rolo tomassi you fucking pleeb

03.29.18 | Check Right Said Fred. It's so post rock and post hardcore, it's neither. True abstraction. |
pjquinones747
03.29.18 | Not in Sput's database! |
