| Rap Metal: Don't be a Hater
All it took was one band to bring down a whole genre. Regardless, there were some excellent rap-metal albums released from the early 1990's to current day. Several were groundbreaking releases, especially those in the early 1990's, while others seamlessly mixed and intertwined disparate styles (e.g., hip hop, metal, salsa, DJs, hard rock, reggae, hard rap, etc.). This list includes my top 40 albums within this unique genre.
Note that Reggae-metal was not included in this list. So although Dub War (Pain), Skindred (Babylon, Roots Rock Riot), and 311 (Transistor) are superb albums, they are not included herein. I also attempted to keep out compilations (sorry Loud Rocks) and EPs, but a few EPs still managed to creep in.
Enjoy (as if its the late 1990's and FD hasn't yet ruined it all)! | 40 | | Methods of Mayhem Methods of Mayhem | 39 | | Darwin's Waiting Room Orphan | 38 | | One Day as a Lion One Day as a Lion

Similar to Adrenaline above, not sure what category this album truly fits in. But the Spanish rap metal sections are awesome! | 13 | | Linkin Park Reanimation | 12 | | downset. I have never seen a larger and more brutal pit than at Stuck Mojo concerts... | 5 | | 311 Grassroots | 4 | | Deftones Adrenaline
Honestly, I hesitated putting this album on here as, although it has elements of Rap Metal, it has so much more. This album defies categorization to this day. | 3 | | (hed) p.e. How come you didn't include Transistor, but you included other 311 albums? I know Transistor was a little different for them, but wouldn't it really fall under the same umbrella? | zaruyache
05.10.18 | You made a rap metal list and didn't include Bodycount? | Zeuzo

05.15.18 | Thanks everyone for all the comments. A few responses: Judgement Night is certaily a great soundtrack (love FNM and Boo Ya Tribe together), especially for coming out in 1993; thanks for the recs of Candiria and E. Town Concrete, never heard them before; 311 - Transistor didn't make the list as there's not enough rapping by Nick Hexum for me; Can't explain why, but just not a huge fan of Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory; Body Count, in my opinion, has little flow and sounds disjointed (like late 80's rap over 2nd rate 80's guitar), and thus did not make my list. | Voltimand
05.15.18 | Hey man, to each their own, and Meteora is still a solid album. m/ |
