| Favorite Alternative/Progressive Metal
We all have subgenres of hard rock and metal, which we hold most dear. To me, Alternative/Progressive Metal (and the associated bands) is the pinnacle of metal. What other form of metal can truly open up your ajna chakra and promote heightened consciousness. Although you may disagree; in my honest opinion, all other subgenres pale in comparison. This list includes my favorite thirty albums within this subgenre. Should you have any RECs, please do not hesitate to send them my way and thank you in advance. Just recently found out about the band Boil on this website and am pretty excited. | 30 | | Gone is Gone Gone Is Gone | 29 | | Meytal Alchemy
Props to Meytal Cohen, who made an incredible album here. | 28 | | Suns of the Tundra Tunguska | 27 | | Fair to Midland Fables From a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times is True | 26 | | Muse Origin of Symmetry
Also really dig the album Drones | 25 | | 10 Years The Autumn Effect | 24 | | Battling Delirium Super Psychedelic Love Songs For the Dark Hearted | 23 | | Lesser Key Lesser Key
Featuring former Tool bassist Paul D'Amour | 22 | | In Flames Siren Charms
This may seem like a strange choice, but take a listen to this album and in my opinion it fits here. | 21 | | Katatonia The Great Cold Distance
Dead End Kings is also one of my favorite albums of theirs. | 20 | | Apocalyptica Shadowmaker | 19 | | Coheed and Cambria No World for Tomorrow
This was the first Coheed and Cambria album I ever had, and as such, is my favorite. But IV and Year of the Black Rainbow are not far behind. | 18 | | Soen Lykaia | 17 | | Karnivool Themata | 16 | | Suns of the Tundra Suns of the Tundra | 15 | | Mastodon Emperor of Sand | 14 | | Rishloo Eidolon | 13 | | TesseracT Altered State
Unfortunately, even though great, the other Tesseract albums do not hold a candle to this one. | 12 | | Fair to Midland Arrows and Anchors | 11 | | Soen Tellurian | 10 | | Hurt Vol. 1 | 9 | | Karnivool Sound Awake | 8 | | Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank Planet | 7 | | Peach Giving Birth To A Stone
Featuring Justin Chancellor of Tool. | 6 | | Tool 10,000 Days | 5 | | Mastodon Crack the Skye | 4 | | Soen Cognitive | 3 | | Rishloo Feathergun | 2 | | Tool Lateralus | 1 | | Tool Ænima
Yes, I place Aenima higher than Lateralus. But not by much. | |

07.07.18 | Honorable mention to all the bands on my prior list "Nu-Metal Era Albums that Broke the Mold". Also, honorable mention to Dredg, Mt. Helium, Earshot, Feersum Ennjin, Opus Dai, Prisma, Evan's Blue, and many more... Also, A Perfect Circle's "Eat the Elephant" could fit on here. | 0xME
07.07.18 | Chaos Divine is a band you should enjoy, they're great | bgillesp
07.07.18 | Check Nothing More- s/t (kinda like fair to midland)
Also check some better In Flames like ASOP | JDubb
07.07.18 | I understand why everyone dislikes Siren Charms, as I have been a fan of In Flames since Clayman. It is certainly a radical departure from everything formerly In Flames. But I dig it for what it is, which is an alternative/progressive metal album. Take a listen to it without preconceptions (of what it should be or what you think it should be). May have been better released as a Passenger album. | Cygnatti
