J() Alexander
10.22.18 | I mean, if you stop you improve your memory (I guess) and keep more money for cool shit. Also, like, there's other ways to relax, and you can listen to music without weed and it's pretty cool. |
StrikeOfTheBeast
10.22.18 | I don't smoke, but I don't have anything against it. Chronic use isn't particularly healthy though, and kids under 18 are more likely to experience complications with growth, specifically brain cells. Most people are able to quit without serious withdrawals like cigarettes or heroine if that's any consolation. In other words, do as you wish. |

10.22.18 | Yeah you’re right Alex, there are alternatives. Some days I feel the bads outweigh the good, and others the good outweighs the bad. The illegal aspect of it is also sketchy considering I live in a shitty state where it’s decriminzalized but still not legal. What’s the fucking point? |

10.22.18 | Everything in moderation. In my teens and early 20s I smoked a ton and it barely did anything for me. Made me slow and apathetic. But now that I smoke once or twice a week, it works and doesn’t have a negative effect. |

10.22.18 | if you're at the point where you're thinking about quitting that probably means it's time to quit
think about it this way I guess: music is still good without the dope, it's just weed makes it feel more rewarding because... well yeah, that's what it does. You'll save a shitload of money and you'll probably get healthier too (smoking anything is still bad for you regardless of what potheads will tell you) |

JayEnder
10.22.18 | Indeed Jas. Trust me there’s nothing I like better than to come home after a stressful day and just simply have a smoke sesh. Throw on some good music and I’m all set man haha. I don’t drink booze or smoke ciggys either, not fond of either of those activities lol. But at the same time, if I just dropped the weed and went fully sober I think I could do some real good for my health. Even though I’m not overweight and I look better than I ever have before, I still can’t help but think having it as a crutch can be a bad thing. Like Larkin said, moderation is key. |

For example, Michael Phelps is the best swimmer in the world and he is constantly pushing his body to the max, and smokes weed to relax. Many high performance athletes and occupations do this as well. But if youre just lazy all day and smoke, that's probably a bad idea. |

guitarded_chuck
10.22.18 | its not inherently dumb im a productive adult making near 6 figures and smoke weed every day pretty much, your mileage may vary but if youre fucking up in life its almost for sure a discipline issue that is separate from cannabis and you're projecting an excuse onto it

I mean, this isn't always true as weed actually does affect people differently. I've known very motivated people who totally changed once they started smoking all of the time and I also have family members/friends who smoke all of the time and have very stable lives and jobs.
I have friends who can smoke weed and go out to a bar and have a good time as weed relaxes them. If I smoke and go out, it's a fucking disaster because it messes with my anxiety. Basically, weed is a weird drug. Take that break, my dude. |

Orb
10.22.18 | I go on and off "the jazz cabbage" reguarly, but my sweet spot as far as moderation goes is to only smoke after my daily tasks are dealt with. Whether that means blazing at 8pm after I'm done running errands and stuff, or torching a blunt at noon on a sunday before I mow the lawn, as long as I can avoid the general public and anything that involves a decent attention span I'm fine. |

like i said, your mileage may vary, its not for everyone
even then its more of a discipline issue than anything and those people were likely so close to the edge of eternally fucking off anyway that the lowest common denominator was going to come into their life at some point inevitably anyway and they were going to eternally fuck off

ZombieToyDuck
10.22.18 | other alternative I see unmentioned is to consider looking into vaporizing weed (if you have access to medical stuff that is). They make strains to help with focus and what not I believe. Getting too high then going out into public makes me feel like everyone is noticing my bloodshot eyes and judging me, ya know typical anxiety shit. For some reason though, when I smoke before a concert/movie I lose all that anxiety of “oh shit I’m in a crowd” because I realize nobody is paying attention to me. |

10.22.18 | i haven't quit but i was definitely smoking too much and i've reduced about 80% over the last year (still smoking most days). it's a balance. I have thought about quitting tho cos it does affect your day to day functioning and emotions more than you realise |
hal1ax
10.22.18 | "but if youre fucking up in life its almost for sure a discipline issue that is separate from cannabis and you're projecting an excuse onto it"
i don't necessarily agree with this. being undisciplined isn't always diffuse. in fact it can be quite often focalized to stimuli to which you are vulnerable. i, for example, have always been able to moderate everything in my life except for opiates. i know quite a few people actually who are like that with weed too.. they just can't use it without abusing it so they just avoid it. i think sometimes you're right tho it can be just a pervasive lack of discipline but not always. |
guitarded_chuck
10.22.18 | yeah but again then the issue is an inability to moderate use and stems completely from willpower, opiates arent a good comparable as they create real change in brain chemistry i.e. physical addiction, otherwise i agree |

I smoke several times daily and at least once daily with my wife. We were spending ~$100/month on buds. Now that we're doing 50/50 buds and vape pens, that amount has gone way down. I don't make a ton of money, but in the current grand scheme for me that's not a small amount, but certainly justifiable.
Good one Guitarded too. It's only a crutch if someone is lazily using it to distract themselves from something they can easily fix or should otherwise mend straight-on. Which I'm sure is the case a lot of the time. But for a lot of regular users, there is something deeper they're medicating. I didn't even truly realize I was suppressing the irritability and anger and resentment that's a side effect of my always-on anxiety until years into smoking and after I gained more insight and found it easier to dissect my thought patterns and their origins. This just wasn't the normal irritability that comes from going cold turkey.
Anyway, pretty fucking dope that it's legal recreationally here in Canada now. Prices haven't skyrocketed unless you were buying in massive bulk and getting a volume discount from your dealer. Still buying online from my usual medical site so I haven't gotten to check out the stores yet. I imagine they're much like the casual dispensaries in Vancouver I've been too. Edibles still not allowed here but I get them from the medical site. It's really need to see the stigma wash away even more than it was, just all of the sudden. |

Years ago I took the medical card I got from BC via a "doctor" (Me in booth to remote "doctor" on iPad screen: "I have back problems". iPad Man: "Ok, prescribed!") and went to ZenLeaf Delivery and signed up using that card. They accepted it and I've been getting edibles from them ever since with 3 day shipping. Pretty neato. Though I heard of many sites more recently not requiring a medical card, just ID, I wonder if those ones can even ship edibles/concentrate. "CanadaWeedDispensary.ca" is another good one but I don't know if they still do edibles after the 17th. Before the 17th, I got edibles/concentrate from CWD but am unsure of their current status on that now. |

10.23.18 | Compared to the "get in the back of my car and rip me off for an eighth" days, sure do! It's nice to be able to hop online and pick out some high THC vaporizer refills, medicated gummies, and a "flight" of uppers and have it shipped officially through Canada Post. We've come a long way hahaha. My biggest complaint over legalization is that all of the stores are hidden downtown and that's a 30 minute drive, but I also live in the city with the most stores in the province with the most stores in Canada. Fucking lucky. Some provinces got the shit end of the stick. Which province you in? |

10.24.18 | Dang I feel bad for you Americans now. Socially acceptable most places, legalized in few states, federally illegal. Just bizarre. I was in Washington the first day it was legalized at the only legal store and that was my first experience buying legally, so it sucks to see your country lagging behind so much. |

yup. $50 is too much now. if you're just getting an 8th then $40 is reasonable but I'd rather just spend the $100-$130 on the half. |

Be a friend who listens, and show them that their behavior makes you sad."
They didn't pick up on this at all, and moved straight on to how annoying it is when role models smoke in public. "They're ruining my efforts to make him stop!" |

At 48 hours following ibogaine administration, withdrawal and craving scores were significantly lowered in comparison to baseline: 78% of patients did not exhibit objective clinical signs of opioid withdrawal, 79% reported minimal cravings for opioids, and 68% reported subjective withdrawal symptoms in the mild range. |

10.24.18 | why are u calling me dumb? because i don't think the research your citing has empirical validity? because it doesn't? because there's a slew of confounding variables in the way of attaining hard data on that? what sample size did they use? was sobriety retained? did these people have a history of pscyh use? off what drugs? i was never laughing at u so idk why you're being such a little pussy |

hal1ax
10.24.18 | na i opened it and it is indeed a small sample size. have not read methodology yet tho |
guitarded_chuck
10.24.18 | honestly i interpret your reaction to all this as your ego clinging onto what would be a real analysis of yourself and decisions such that you could overcome your own issues and let go
psychedelics are objectively a useful tool for this process, but it requires an openness and willingness to face oneself and make a change, it is not a 100% fool-proof solution you are correct
i would be willing to bet that though space is quick to put his hand up as one who did not receive freedom from addictions from psychedelics, he probably did not go into the experience/generally doesnt have a strong desire to not consume nicotine
you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink
you can take psychedelics and face your ego but you cant make a change if you dont want to, are too scared to, or dont actively try to do so |

That's like the most objectively wrong take on science ever and anyone 'raised on science' would know the distinction between supported theory and "look at these numbers it makes this theory FACT" . Difference is I don't give a fuck enough to pretend my scientific background is above people on sputnikmusic.com |

10.26.18 | I should've read this thread a lot earlier, very informative (actually just amusing). |
TheSpaceMan
10.26.18 | but okay now you roped me into getting agitated for no reason so my bad, if you're willing to take a breath with me, you misinterpreted what i was getting at and its probably because of my poor wording. i'm legitimately wondering why you don't think an anecdote is relevant if we supposedly aren't arguing, i'm not offended / saying that my anecdote trumps that study, i just think you killed a conversation is all |
guitarded_chuck
10.26.18 | "statistics from a scientific method case provides cold hard undeniable fact"

10.26.18 | for the record since it apparently must be made crystal clear for you im not saying your anecdote isnt "relevant", that's your quote, i'm saying it is not useful in terms of representing the probability of effectivity in a population
let me know when you get there |
TheSpaceMan
10.26.18 | That's not true though, there's an agreed upon distinction that the scientific method only provides support to a theory or hypothesis. Nothing arrived via scientific method is called fact. And there's validity in an anecdote it's just outside the scope of supporting an argument. And apparently there isn't one, so we all good here |
guitarded_chuck
10.26.18 | and also im not ~~~~pretending my scientific background is above people of sputnik~~~~~ if anyone else has a masters in science here raise their hand, not that i believe education is a definite indicator of knowledge or ability, thats you projecting |
TheSpaceMan
10.26.18 | That's a pretty self contradicting post lol |
guitarded_chuck
10.26.18 | its accepted as fact if the trial is run again and again with the same outcome sure with data achieved via the scientific method
so here like hal pointed out the data set is relatively small and the experiment needs to be run on a much broader scale before it can be considered 100% fact (the 80% success rate)
thankfully the FDA has seen these numbers and is now rushing to get more studies done on this topic as well as the use of mushrooms for depression |

TheSpaceMan
10.26.18 | There is never a case in scientific study that a trial leads to a cold fact, no matter the sample size or success rate. Science is built on the basis that everything needs to be challenged and can be disproven. Think of all the studies after Newton that seemed to confirm gravity is a force, and then Einstein came along with relativity and found argument against a once known "fact" that seemed so concrete it put planes in the sky but is now largely viewed obsolete
Regardless, I agree there's benefits in psychs for addiction therapy and I agree a single subject sample size isn't indicative to much and since you agree my anecdote was swell and real then we are all on the same page and it's pretty chill |
JWT155
10.26.18 | Just saw this thread, I don't think there's anything wrong inherently with smoking weed, but particpating in anything that is holding you back and causing you to be content and less ambitious is probably not an ideal activity to be particpating in. That being said plenty of sucessful people smoke weed, just like alcohol it's all about how you treat the substance and if you can afford the lifestyle in terms of finacially, ethically and spiritually. |
guitarded_chuck
10.26.18 | newtons idea that gravity was a force was a theory and only considered as such because no one could explain the mechanism behind the thing
the theory confirmed the *mathematics* behind it, the hypothesis like you said
and the fact *the math* checked out 100% of the time meant that it was considered to be 100% accurate, a fact
no we're not on the same page at all because this "there's no faxxxxx IRL" bullshit is the same postmodernist retardation being handed out ad nauseam in the arts fields and it is worth noting that it is indeed complete bullshit
you can go back to your boxed in world of ignorance if you like as you inevitably will but im telling you you are off the mark here, take it or leave it |
TheSpaceMan
10.26.18 | First off, Newtons theory wasn't/isnt always accurate, and that's how it led to Einstiens pursuit of relativity. Secondly, if you think I'm saying facts don't exist in this world then you're just looking for things to argue over.
It is infinitely more ignorant to think anything in science has arrived at a fact. I really don't know how you can't see this, it's the basis of all of what you have an apparent master's in. |

guitarded_chuck
10.26.18 | if a trial is run x=~∞ with the same outcome it considered to be 100-~∞% fact in science
you arguing that because science is open to correction as is inherently built into the thing means that even though in the above type of scenario/experiment something is considered 100-~∞% fact means it isnt technically a 100% fact is indeed looking for an argument
but anyway we've reached a conclusion i think |

'if a trial is run x=~∞ with the same outcome it considered to be 100-~∞% fact in science '
No I strongly disagree, all experiments lead to evidence and nothing else. Statistics is a model of reality but never objective correlation to reality. Also, of course Newtons math added up right, his equation was simple arithmetic |
guitarded_chuck
10.26.18 | you can disagree but you disagree with the consensus of the scientific community of which i am part of and side with
the only people who today claim that when a sound methodology chews out the same results with repeated trials it does not tell us a fundamental fact of nature are the postmodernists, a group which the scientific community is now in a constant battle with and no one takes seriously outside of gender studies classrooms and the like
the debate ends here for me |

11.06.18 | recent studies have shown it does seriously affect your memory, and extended use can cause breathing problems and severe paranoia in older age. my ex girlfriend had two relatives who smoked the stuff most of their lives, they couldn't remember much of anything, wheezed like someone who smokes 20 a day, and they literally had tin foil hats. they were constantly afraid that "they" were listening in and reading their thoughts. I wish this was a joke, but the 3 times I visisted them it was honestly depressing. my best friends auntie used to smoke it, she won't even let members of her family into her home because she thinks they're the FBI coming to get her. Smoking it on occasion, sure, but everyday or even every week, it's unhealthy. It's unhealthy even on occasion, smoke is smoke no matter what its origin. Plus, no sober person wants to listen to someone ramble on about how great they feel and how it's all natural |
guitarded_chuck
11.06.18 | on the contrary no healthy successful balanced user wants to hear the overblown half-truth horror stories from squares |

11.06.18 | And then you learn the alternative to bad memory was dying from an overdose.
Nah the health angle isn't going to work very well against weed. |
guitarded_chuck
11.06.18 | it certainly impacts short term memory but only in the short term, comes back quickly upon cessation, zero permanent effect
and the smoking argument is mute because theres other was to intake it
it can exacerbate mental issues sure so if one is a paranoid person it can make them more-so although it also simply enhances one's creative thinking which can increase their awareness of things which if balanced can make them more aware of certain aspects of their environment that could be interpreted by someone else as being overly paranoid
it's been shown that the rates of schizophrenia among people who used cannabis vs dont are the exact same, it doesn't cause psychosis, but it can bring it on or make it worse IF you are already predisposed |

11.06.18 | I find people who use pot as a recreational drug, retarded.
I had to deal with a bunch of "hippies" when I lived in in boarding house many years ago, and they spent entire afternoons smoking pot and listening to Pink Floyd. and every fucking day was "hey don't you want to come and join us and spent the afternoon listening to floyd and being high?" |

12.20.18 | So it's a month and some late but I finally tried a legal dispensary in Alberta. Sold out of most stock, like 15 strains left, most indica/hybrids which is not what I wanted. Price was all $12.00 and up per gram. No bulk discounts like you'd get online. No edibles or concentrates either. Can't complain though, it was a short drive away and a neat thing to try for the first time when I didn't want to wait for my usual medical stuff to ship from online. Then I flew to BC and remembered what it was like to have a dispensary on every street corner...one day....one day Alberta. |

05.28.20 | 5 or so years ago i went through an eighth a week easily, sometimes a quad. it was definitely a problem and i couldn't even tell if i was actually getting high. now i vape/eat maybe once a week and it's so, so much more enjoyable.
so don't quit, just cut back a little. make it something you look forward to and not a compulsion that you need to function. |

05.28.20 | I was spending $200+ every 2 weeks for a long time and I quit kind of unwillingly and it wasn't too rough. Recently I started smoking again but O keep it to just a few joints a week or some puffs from a pen on rare occasions. It's been nice. I recommend it |
