DarkSideOfLucca 12.04.18	@Sinternet - Well, for me, I was pissed off because it took all of the interesting things that Force Awakens set up and just basically said 'fuck you.' The side story sucked, agreed, but even the main plotline wasn't great imo. Without Snoke, all we are left with is Kylo (who doesn't seem to be that much more powerful than Rey) and his comedic relief sidekick. Snoke dying was shocking and a different direction, but that doesn't make it good writing. Also, I'm just not huge on Kylo STILL being a conflicted wuss this far into the story. That's not a great place to leave off right before our third act where all the stakes should be really high. Captain Phasma was wasted again and at this point is just a joke (not addressed that she sold out the entire fucking army?), Benicio Del Toro was random as fuck, Rose was hilariously poorly written (she risked the entire Resistance to save Finn who would have died anyway if it weren't for Luke lol), comedic timing was very strange for this movie, Finn was infinitely less interesting than he was in the first one, space floating Leia, Poe having a really boring and shitty plot line. All of this and I haven't even talked about Luke yet. I mean there is just so much wrong with this movie and that's not even including the awful pacing issues and constant tonal shifts. There were individual scenes that would have been well directed if they weren't connected to an actual movie, but this was really fucking difficult to enjoy for me since almost every scene had something wrong with it. I coulnd't even have dumb fun with it.

MarsKid 12.04.18	Last Jedi isn't the worst thing ever made, but it is far from being compelling in any sense of the word. It actively seeks to kill its own momentum and that of the series under a pretense of being different. Kudos for trying and the visuals, but there isn't much else positive. I don't think it's an overreaction on the whole. The debate as a whole (among reviews/commentators/etc), however, has been dragged around for an absurd amount of time and I'd like to see something new.

There are really only a small handful of "exciting" moments in the books.

I already went into detail on this in other posts, but I was excited for them to do something different. It's just how they closed off certain plot lines was just poor writing, wasting time on ridiculously boring subplots, having characters acting bafflingly out of character, weirdly timed humor and jarring pacing, and yeah, leaving us with ONLY Kylo who is a conflicted half villain and not exactly a terrible threat for a third act compared to someone like Vader. This is just bad set up for a final act and it's not just because it didn't rip off Empire, dude. There is a way to do something unexpected and different and still not have it be a total mess.
