03.01.19 | Will add some more as they come to me |
heck
03.01.19 | killer list (pun fully intended). actually picked up VHS copies of 3 and 8 recently |
StrikeOfTheBeast
03.01.19 | 7 is underrated asf (the movie) |
wham49
03.01.19 | I love that shit. They are what there are meant to be, fun movies with some scares, some gore, and some naked tits, what else could you want
all great to get down to with your gf or bf
the first time with my wife was while watching Halloween |
StrikeOfTheBeast
03.01.19 | 2 rules too. Love the unrated version with its grainy imperfections but convincing gore. |
wham49
03.01.19 | 2 is one of my fave Horror movies period |
SitarHero
03.01.19 | I watched The Babysitter on Netflix the other day and it was surprisingly entertaining. |
BAT
03.01.19 | stage fright (1987) is one of my favorites, love the owl mask |
budgie
03.01.19 | "First sighting of the scream queen JLC, not the last" didnt the fog come out 2-3 years after halloween? |
budgie
03.01.19 | also sweet list dude. black christmas is the best of the bunch here agreed |
budgie
03.01.19 | oh you just mean first sighting of her in this list |
DominionMM1
03.01.19 | check sleepaway camp if you haven't |
wham49
03.01.19 | yes first on the list, I do think the fog is the last besides for the Halloween sequels and remakes |
wham49
03.01.19 | I purposely left off sleep away camp because I do not like the movie, but do acknowledge that it might have a place here
Anybody see The Dorm That dripped Blood, also ok, but actually the movie poster is better than the movie |
budgie
03.02.19 | does tombs of the blind dead count as a slasher |
CaliggyJack
03.02.19 | The Town that Dreaded Sundown is awesome agreed. I gotta admit I enjoyed the Meta-Satire remake of the film as well.
I like My Bloody Valentine, but I personally prefer the remake. Jensen Ackles was perfectly cast. |
wham49
03.03.19 | only saw the remake once, in the theatre, will recheck
budgie never saw it, so if you say it is I guess it is included |
budgie
03.03.19 | oh man i forgot about the house that screamed/la residencia (1970)
that is a good slasher |
BAT
03.03.19 | not my favorites but i wanna see more slasher discussion.
-the prowler is a bit stock but atmospheric and brutal, director got hired for friday13th part4 after this and tom salvinis on effects aswell.
-twitch of the death nerve (bay of blood?) is a solid protoslasher from mario bava, solid body count and generally forgotten, an influence on john carpenter and friday2 ripped off a kill.
-phenomena (the us cut creepers is also okay) and pretty much every 70s/80s dario argento gialloslasher is worth a watch, phenomena gets a shoutout for heavily influencing clock tower for the snes. 'terror at the opera' [usually just titled 'opera'] is probably his most slasher-esque, it's dope. tenebre also owns.
-the toolbox murders has a really strong bleakasfuck first half than kind of falls apart with its killer reveal, still a pretty solid grindy firstwave slasher.
-just before dawn is pretty much wrongturn done right, early slasher kind of deliverance meets hills have eyes, really solid pacing and uses its limitations to its advantage
-the burning, pretty much the weinsteins unabashedly ripping off friday the 13th, it's gorier and they stole tom salvini from paramount
-10 to midnight sleazy/violent as fuck dirty harry rip off with charles bronson, pretty much a first wave slasher/action hybrid from canon films
-night of the demon, a really awful shotontape bigfoot slasher but bigfoot rips a dudes dick off so i thought i'd mention it
-slaughter high, really simple slasher cashin with over the top kills, prank gone wrong highschool reunion massacre, it's kinda like an unintentional troma movie.
-shocker, oddest wes craven slasher movie, a serial killer gets executed but becomes an electricity demon that can possess people and go in tvs and shit, it's sillier than freddys dead
---i might list some more later but yeah. sleepaway camp is also solid, gotta watch the vhs cut tho cuz the widescreen vers had all the kills censored |
wham49
03.04.19 | thanks bat, have seen a couple of these |
BAT
03.06.19 | np, didnt notice you had the prowler on your list lol, solid little flick. not really a true slasher but i wanna give a shoutout to 'vice squad', it's a pimp going on a spree in search of a prostitute that set him up, excellent villain and pretty grindy. director also did dead&buried which is another underrated, somewhat slasher-y classic. |
wham49
03.06.19 | Thanks for the comments BAT
Have some interesting flicks here |
Yep321
03.06.19 | Madman

budgie
03.06.19 | remake of house on sorority row aint terrible either |
BallsToTheWall
03.06.19 | Nice list. |
wham49
03.06.19 | anybody who can should watch these on vhs, that grainy terrible sounding things are what I saw almost every horror movie up to the mid 90's on, one of my faves was the Nightmare on E st. Dream Warriors, which had the Dokken video at the end
Classic |
BAT
03.07.19 | i found a tape of madman and stillll haven't gotten around to watching it, i've heard its dopee. i've heard of curtains and the initiation but could never find a rip, in the same vein i've been lookin for 'eyes of a stranger'(1981) for a couple years. and fuck yeah, errrybodys drowning in that neon slime.
maniac is one of the more grimey selections, i think new york ripper out sleazes it but thats debatable. w.lustangs later 'maniac cop' series is way more schlocky but kinda fun. another similar approach was the driller killer, but maniacs definitely more atmospheric and dark.
the elm street 5 tape is actually the only common uncut vers of 5, same story with sleepaway camp. for american releases definitely worth pickin up whatever you come across but when it comes to oz/canadian/italian exploitation flicks the distributors would cut them to shreds for the us market. i still love collecting tapes but goddamn do they take up a lotta space.
another badass action/slasher hybrid for ya'll is the hitcher with rutger hauer, avoid the remake tho. |
porcupinetheater
03.07.19 | You dig Intruder?
Or Stagefright: Aquarius? |
BAT
03.07.19 | stage fright is in my top 5 all time slashers, also probably my favorite joe d'mato related production. if you wanna see a garbage 0/10 eastman/d'mato flick look into 'Absurd'(aka horrible, aka zombie 6). buio omegas by d'mato is really fucked up, great goblin score tho. haven't seen intruder but thanks for the rec, iirc bruce campbell was involved in some capacity. |
wham49
09.20.19 | the first episode of AHS 1984 took exact scenes from some classic movies, F13 3, original Halloween, prowler. Not sure if I think it is cool or if it makes me mad, will keep watching |
BAT
09.20.19 | i still havent watched a single episode, been recced to me for yeeeears buuut a slasher season could be up my alley |
budgie

budgie
09.20.19 | i saw april fools day the other night for the first time. was pretty fun! |
Thalassic
09.20.19 | Definitely watch Intruder
Some nasty kills in that one |
BAT
09.20.19 | yeee salvini did the prowler, the director went onto do friday the 13th final chapter[my favv]. def gonna check out intruder+madman, alssso still got blackcoats daughter on my towatch list fo rmonthsss. one solid one i watched recently was 'butcher baker nightmare maker' aka night warning(ithink?), first wave slasher with a oedipus rex angle. it's kinda like misery meets serial mom but late 70s campy exploitation, lead actress slays it thoo. |
wham49
09.23.19 | So I caught the newest Halloween last night for the second time
As much as I want to hate it I found it to a have a few redeemable properties
First the cinematography or maybe the angles shot are very akin to the original. I love the minimalist view points and is most useful during the tricker treating scene when entering houses.
Second it still painfully sticks to the central plot of wanting to eliminate his whole family, and his escape to come back on THE night. IDK life is too short to hold everything up to the best, I would hate everything and be more miserable than I already am
I say enjoy it for what it is and I totally understand if you don’t have the sentimental quality the Halloween series that I have and hate it |
iglu
