It returned and became an unfamiliar, modern shell of what it used to be with practically zero community presence. |

I'd really miss the place at first although like Adolf says it would likely be a blessing in disguise, this place is addictive like nowhere else. As amazing as the community is for finding new music, if you're a dedicated enough listener I'm sure you'd survive out there in the wilderness looking for new jams. |

Low averages, also appears to be some 'weighted' thing going on somehow.
Layout is completely whack.
Genre tags are very detailed, nice.
Community area looks like a very basic forum, like the social one we have here and is run almost like a separate site (that I never use).
Home page is a little weird.
It's freaking me out already, I had to escape before I got sucked in. |

06.14.19 | The chart functionality is 100 times better on RYM. You can search by year, detailed genres, by groups of friends rating scores, etc - plus it has at least 20% more albums in there too.
Then more users equals more ratings so more reliable scores with number of votes calibrated into the overall weighted rating.
Lists you can reorder - so you update your best albums of all time list rather than have to redo the whole thing here.
These features are a hell of a lot better than Sput - you can actually search for new music on RYM just using the charts. Hunting for obscurities is possible there but not here really too. |

Also, you get used to the lower averages pretty quickly. Once you know how the weighting works/how people tend to rate there you learn how to read the averages. Nowadays I get more annoyed by how high Sput averages are than how low RYM’s are. |

It does appear useful, especially for people with niche tastes perhaps not catered for on Sput, or for people with enough time on their hands to discover plenty of hidden gems. I guess the fact I listen to more metal than anything else makes Sput perfectly serviceable for the most part. Then again I could probably use RYM solely for the search function and not even bother migrating my ratings. |

No, Sput is just a particularly niche community with a particular interest in metal and punk derivatives, RYM on the whole is way less “normie” with a way wider range overall. |
