The Gig List
I’m a massive fan of live music (as you probably all are too), and for the last few years I’ve been keeping a list of every artist I’ve seen since my first show. Looking through it all, there are a LOT of good memories, so from here on out this list will be my ongoing gig chronology, whilst also mentioning any notable moments/highlights I can recall. I’ll need to add a few bands into the database, so this’ll be updated in bits and pieces as I get up to present day. |
1 | | Bon Jovi Have a Nice Day Tour: Live
June 10th, 2006
My first ever show, all thanks to my mother for buying the tickets. She’s a huge 80s rock/metal head, so taking me to see Bon Jovi made a lot of sense. Honestly, I don’t remember much considering how young I was - the band seemed to be phoning it in a little, but it was fun. |
2 | | Nickelback Silver Side Up
June 10th, 2006 (Bon Jovi Support)
Yep. My first ever show was also a Nickelback gig. This was back when they still had a shred of dignity and hadn’t released the same album over and over, and tbh Chad seemed to be having a lot of fun. Must have been a bit of a dream come true to tour with Bon Jovi. They also fired t-shirts out of a cannon. |
3 | | Linkin Park A Thousand Suns: Puerta De Alcala
November 10th, 2010
The first show I ever paid for. I’m a huge A Thousand Suns fanboy, so the A Thousand Suns Tour was a massive no brainer to me. Chester kept forgetting lyrics, which was pretty amusing, but the crowd filled in the blanks just fine. They also brought an audience guitarist on stage for the first time in years, lucky bastard. |
4 | | Does It Offend You, Yeah? You Have No Idea...
November 10th, 2010 (LP Support)
I don’t mind a bit of DIOYY, but they were shit live. Funniest part was when the vocalist tried a joke and everyone just told him to fuck off. |
5 | | We Are The In Crowd Best Intentions
April 15th, 2012 (I think?)
Don’t remember much of the show, they were pretty solid live if memory is correct. I was trying to hook up with someone I worked with (who was a huge pop punk fan girl), so a local show was my best attempt apparently. We also met the vocalist. She was cool. |
6 | | Call it Reckless Invincible
April 15th, 2012 (WATIC Support)
I actually knew the vocalist for this band for a while, she’s awesome. They were tight live, but never made it past the EP stages of success. |
7 | | Daughter If You Leave
October 27th, 2013
Beautiful, amazing show. The acoustics were perfect for Daughter’s style and I cannot wait to see them again. |
8 | | Indians Somewhere Else
October 27th, 2013 (Daughter Support)
This guy now goes by his actual name (Søren Juul), but for those who like Daughter the Somewhere Else album is pretty great tbh. His live show was ok, nothing special. Met him at the merch stand afterwards, seemed like a nice guy. |
9 | | Skillet Comatose Comes Alive
October 15th, 2014
This was a big bucket list show for me. I’ve mentioned in previous Skillet reviews my appreciation for the Collide/Comatose era Skillet, so seeing them live was a huge nostalgia-fest. Honestly, they put on a really solid show, I’d probably be happy to see them again. Seth looked miserable as hell though. |
10 | | Linkin Park The Hunting Party: Live from Mexico
November 23rd, 2014
My second LP gig, and they put on a damn good show. This was during The Hunting Party album cycle so it was all about the guitar riffs and Chester’s screams. |
11 | | Of Mice and Men Live at Brixton
November 23rd, 2014 (LP Support)
I’d never heard of OMAM before this gig, but this was a pretty sweet introduction to the group. It fitted in with Linkin Park’s THP touring cycle and they put on an equally good show. |
12 | | System of a Down Live At The Wireless
April 10th, 2015
FUUUUUUUUCK this was a good show. Post-hiatus SOAD might be older, but they delivered. They fucking played ‘Marmalade’. ‘Mr Jack’ live is amazing. I want to go back. |
13 | | Barenaked Ladies Barenaked for the Holidays
October 8th, 2015
Took my fiancé (at the time) to see these guys since she was a big fan. I’ve never really been much of one myself, but they were fun to see. |
14 | | Colin Hay Next Year People
October 8th, 2015 (Barenaked Ladies Support)
I actually enjoyed Hay’s performance a hell of a lot more if I’m honest. He’s a really solid solo performer, and hearing an acoustic rendition of ‘Down Under’ was something I never knew I needed in my life. |
15 | | Blink-182 California
July 19th, 2017
Wow this was a boring show. Talk about phoning it in. |
16 | | The Front Bottoms I Hate My Friends
July 19th, 2017 (Blink-182 Support #1)
I fucking hate this band. |
17 | | Frank Turner England Keep My Bones
July 19th, 2017 (Blink-182 Support #2)
Easily the best act of the night. Turner is a fantastic frontman and I had 10x more fun during his performance than the other two combined. |
18 | | Highly Suspect The Boy Who Died Wolf
January 30th, 2018
Goddamn this was a hell of a fun show. They played a lot of big crowd pleasers and the bassist twatted me right in the face with an MCID baseball cap m/m/m/m/ |
19 | | Welles Codeine
January 30th, 2018 (HS Support)
Big grungy riffs and Nirvana-esque material. I like this guy, shame he hasn’t gotten more attention - his performance was really solid. |
20 | | Fall Out Boy Believers Never Die: Greatest Hits
***FALL OUT BOY TRIBUTE BAND “FELL OUT BOY”***
March 20th, 2018
Honestly, these guys were an absolute blast. They nailed the early pop punk energy of FOB’s best era. I had fun. |
21 | | Blink-182 Greatest Hits
***BLINK-182 TRIBUTE BAND “BLINK-2”***
March 20th, 2018 (Fell Out Boy Support)
This is going to sound really sad, but Blink-2 were easily 100% better live than 182. Blink-182 just felt super meh and phoned in, whereas this tribute band nailed everything that made Blink so good to begin with. |
22 | | Mammal Not Fish Room Six
April 20th, 2018
These guys were fun. It’s pretty straight forward indie rock stuff, but the guitarist was excellent and it was clear these guys just wanted everyone to have a good time. |
23 | | Alton Wahlberg Time
April 20th, 2018 (MNF Support)
Probably the nicest artist I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. He introduced himself as “the depressing acoustic warmup act” and delivered a really solid opening set. |
24 | | Falling From Trees Sleepless Nights
April 20th, 2018 (MNF Support)
I met these guys through a friend of mine, they disbanded shortly after their last EP release. Damn shame, because they easily delivered the best performance of the night... |
25 | | AWOLNATION Here Come The Runts
April 22nd, 2018
These guys were such a blast to see. The set was tight and a nine-ish minute version of ‘Sail’ with guitar solos was a hell of a way to finish things off. Until next time. |
26 | | Eliza and the Bear Eliza and the Bear
April 22nd, 2018 (AWOL Support)
I honestly don’t remember much of the set, aside from it being fun and riffy. These guys are up and coming, and probably deserve a little more attention. |
27 | | Kiefer Sutherland Reckless and Me
June 22nd, 2018
I surprised my mother with tickets to this, but honestly I had a great time. Sutherland makes for a fantastic live performer. He’s not too shabby a guitarist, either. |
28 | | Rick Brantley Lo-Fi
June 22nd, 2018 (Kiefer Sutherland Support)
A super humble American dude singing super humble American songs. Met him at the merch stand, seemed just as nice as his onstage persona. |
29 | | Tash Sultana Flow State
September 20th, 2018
Fuuuuuuuuuck. This was a good show. Tash puts on a DAMN good show. Being two rows from the very front meant I was right in the thick of it, and goddamn was this a blast. |
30 | | Pierce Brothers Atlas Shoulders
September 20th, 2018 (Tash Sultana Support)
These guys were really good fun. Endearing folk rock tunes and they had amazing energy, definitely deserve a look into if folk rock is your thing. |
31 | | Hawthorne Heights Bad Frequencies
October 23rd, 2018
This gig was depressing. Not from the point of view of performance: Hawthorn Heights were tight and had plenty of energy, but this was a gig to a half filled room of barely 50 people. Met the vocalist after the show, he was a really nice guy and super thankful for being there, but it's painfully obvious the career highs are way behind by this point. |
32 | | Chapter and Verse Glow
October 23rd, 2018 (HH Support)
If Chapter and Verse don't get more attention, I'll be stupidly let down. These guys are basically if Sal Costa was lead vox for Deftones. An excellent performance from a hopefully soon to be big name. Met the vocalist after the show, hope to see them again sometime. |
33 | | Shinedown Attention Attention
November 11th, 2018
I honestly couldn't tell you if I enjoyed this performance or not. They were tight and Brent Smith's vocals were basically studio quality, but in doing so it all felt super paint by numbers/lifeless. Aside from the odd "how you doing" it was basically like listening to the album. |
34 | | Starset Transmissions
November 11th, 2018 (Shinedown Support)
I enjoyed Starset a hell of a lot more than the main event. What's not to love about dudes in space helmets moshing/headbanging? Visually they put a lot of effort into the spectacle, which was nice to see. |
35 | | Press to Meco Affinity
November 11th, 2018 (Shinedown Support)
They were shit. I'm sorry, I don't know this band all that well, but this was a shit performance. I couldn't hear shit, maybe it was early tech issues, but I was glad when it was over. |
36 | | Foo Fighters The Colour and the Shape
***FOO FIGHTERS TRIBUTE BAND "UK FOO FIGHTERS"***
November 30th, 2018
Holy shit, these guys were good. This is probably one of the most recognised cover bands ever: they've played with the real deal, the vocalist has been brought on stage to perform with the real deal, and when Grohl broke his leg who did they contact to perform instead to thousands of fans? This band. Fucking outstanding show. |
37 | | William Ryan Key Thirteen
February 7th, 2019
I'm a huge fan of WRK's solo material, so to not only see him live but also have the opportunity to meet him was an amazing personal highlight. |
38 | | This Wild Life Heart Flip
February 7th, 2019 (WRK Support)
Probably the most cheerful performance ever. Met them both afterwards, they were just as cheerful. |
39 | | Mike Shinoda Post Traumatic
March 10th, 2019
I was extremely proud to see this. Mike's one and only UK performance since Chester passed, to be there was something special. Seeing Mike perform 'One More Light' (for literally the one and only time during his solo tour) and the fan reaction was something I will never forget. Can't believe this was nearly a year ago. Chester, we still miss you. |
40 | | Papa Roach Getting Away With Murder
April 4th, 2019
This was a big ol' nostalgia fest. I loved every second pretending it was 2003 all over again. Shaddix still got it m/m/m/m/ |
41 | | Nothing More Nothing More
April 4th, 2019 (Papa Roach Support)
I'd only recently gotten into Nothing More, so it was a decent stroke of luck to be able to see them. The energy they put into the show was incredible. |
42 | | My Chemical Romance Live and Rare
***MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE TRIBUTE BAND "THE BLACK CHARADE"***
September 29th, 2019
Ahhhh it seems only a little while ago we were all saying MCR would never come back and I'd never see them live. I may never do so since tickets sell out like fucking cupcakes to starving children. This was a fun tribute gig. I have a photo of the vocalist strangling me. Because why not. |
43 | | Thrice The Artist in the Ambulance
October 10th, 2019
Regardless what you thought of Palms, Thrice have still 100% got it live. I was front row for the whole thing, my love of the band probably tripled in a single night. |
44 | | Refused The Shape of Punk to Come
October 10th, 2019 (Thrice Support)
Might just be my favourite live gig ever. The new records might lack what fans fell in love with years back, but their live performance is incredible. Front row for this one too. |
45 | | Gouge Away Disease
October 10th, 2019 (Thrice Support)
These guys were okay. Plenty of energy to go around and pretty much a straightforward punk gig. |
46 | | Ex:Re Romance
November 30th, 2019
Probably the most intimate performance I've ever seen. Elena Tonra's ability to draw you in with emotion is intoxicating. Performed with the 12 Ensemble Orchestra, they played the Romance album in its entirety, and I loved every second. |
47 | | Poppy I Disagree
March 15th, 2020
UPCOMING |
48 | | Highly Suspect Black Ocean
March 18th, 2020
UPCOMING |
49 | | Agnes Obel Citizen Of Glass
April 9th, 2020
UPCOMING |
50 | | The Plot In You Happiness In Self Destruction
