| Rome: Ranked
Ranking Rome albums, 1 is the best and it goes down from there.
Rome is a neofolk project and is one of my favorite bands. Jerome Reuter specializes in interesting, historical and emotional tracks that cross the lines of folk, industrial, ambient and rock. | 1 | | Rome Flowers From Exile
10/10, its hard to pick a favorite out of the 3 perfect albums but i will go with this due to how it hits me emotionally. absolute masterwork of folk.
best tracks: the accidents of gesture, secret sons of europe, to die amongst strangers | 2 | | Rome Masse Mensch Material
10/10, dark, complex music with memorable choruses and lots of variety. Great songwriting and flow throughout the album, feels cinematic. The first trilogy of albums, perfected.
best tracks: der brandtaucher, der tote spielmann, die nelke, kriegsgotter | 3 | | Rome Die Æsthetik der Herrschaftsfreiheit
10/10, big, bloated and incredible. Almost no fat to trim off, 2.5 hours long. The spoken word can be seen as a negative but i dig it. Lots of memorable tracks on this concept album, including some of my all time fav rome tracks.
best tracks: to teach obedience, the death of longing, seeds of liberation, you threw it at me like stones, automation | 4 | | Rome A Passage to Rhodesia
9.75/10: Beautiful, interesting and at times emotional music. I love the dated feel of the record and the variety. Definitely one of his slower releases. Great flow, great lyrics and some absolutely killer songs.
best tracks: the ballad of the flame lily, one fire, hate us and see if we mind, a country denied | 5 | | Rome Nos Chants Perdus
9.5 or 9.75 /10:Definitely one of his more optimistic/fun albums, this is one of his more rock oriented releases. Great songwriting, fantastic production, beautiful tracks that don't hit emotionally but are just written incredibly well.
best tracks: les deracines, l'assassin, le vertige du vide, les iles noires | 6 | | Rome Confessions D'Un Voleur D'Ames
9.25/10 the first record to not be a masterpiece imo, it is a worthy followup to nera that does its job well. There is a lack of holy shit level songs, but on average they are extremely high quality. Good production, great flow and at times cinematic. Dark, martial, and varied.
best tracks: der wolfsmantel, the torture detachment, this twisted crown | 7 | | Rome Nera
9/10: His first full length was pretty damn good. An iffy track here and there but mostly great music, produced well and very dark. Some tracks are a bit repetitive, but i like the repeated sections so that doesn't really affect the score.
best tracks: a burden of flowers, rape blossoms, hope dies painless, nera | 8 | | Rome The Hyperion Machine
8.75/10: Probably his most accessible release, this album takes rome into a more basic direction, with rock oriented songwriting and verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure. Decently well produced and while it doesn't have many incredible tracks, there really is only one or two i do not heavily enjoy.
best tracks: celine in jerusalem, stillwell, skirmishes for diotima, the secret germany | 9 | | Rome Le Ceneri Di Heliodoro
8.5/10: Some iffy tracks and a concept that rides way too close to the political themes rome is known for criticizing. The theme, generally basic and poppy feel and some iffy pieces bring this one down, but there still are some pretty great cuts.
best tracks: who only europe know, the west knows best, fliegen wie vogel, europia o morte | 10 | | Rome Hell Money
8/10 - Some absolutely killer tracks on here, better than the two albums ranked above. However, there are some really uninteresting tracks here and little variation. The album gets a little cringey at times as well. I can see this album going up in rank over time, due to it being relatively new to me.
best tracks: fester, this silver coil, amsterdam the clearing, rough magic | 11 | | Rome Hall of Thatch
7.5 - A combination of the more basic songwriting of hyperion with the folky darkness of hell money, this album has some great moments but has quite a few just ok songs, and 2 really big (imo) flops with martyr and keeper. His vocals on those two are cringy at best. This album has a great atmosphere but his other experimentations really fell flat.
best tracks: blighter, hunter, hawker | |

03.12.20 | I guess this is going to become a topic about Reuter's change of political views? | Gameofmetal
03.12.20 | Thought this was gonna be a ranking a roman emperors and was severely disappointed | Zoomoo318
03.13.20 | @cugno I don't think they really have changed, the definitely is some underlining critique on ceneri but I feel he was too sly with it. He has taken the perspective of people like that before (rhodesia) but he did a better job of critiquing there and didnt ride any lines | CugnoBrasso
03.14.20 | Well, you're probably more knowledgeable than me when it comes to this band, but I really like what I heard so far. I should give them more time now that I'm quarantine. | Zoomoo318
03.23.20 | Ive only been a big fan for less than a year so i am not all knowing either, but that's what i believe based off what i've seen and read :) | XyphDryne
03.14.21 | Rome and Mass Effect? You are okay! |
