04.30.20 | @evilford, I think dust is their second best behind colored sands personally, which I was just jamming today and can in fact confirm that it is my personal favorite death metal album ever. as far all metal goes, that's another story but it's definitely a classic in the genre for me. |
bigweinerdon
04.30.20 | 20 is best |
evilford
04.30.20 | Fair enough. Gorguts is probably my favorite band (hence the luc av) and CS is my least fav gorguts and I still consider it a solid 4.5. Dust is also excellent.
I'm really hoping they can just squeeze out one more before calling it quits lol |
IronGiant
04.30.20 | me and you both haha where would you recommend I go from here within gorguts? FWTH seems like the most obvious place but from what ive heard it seems much more straightforward and thin compared to CS and Dust. Know any other good bands that have the CS style sound that you can recommend? Thanks |
evilford
04.30.20 | I'd definitely go to fwth. It's very digestible compared to obscura. Obscura is their best imo but it's a huge beast to tackle. I've jammed it probably over 100 times and am always picking up new things with it.
I do highly recommend obscura but you have to devote some serious time and attention to digesting it.
As far as recommending other bands, I've never been great at that. Gorguts are fairly unique at this point. If you havent heard Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance by Death, I'd check those. And Opeth. (I'm trying to think of good progressive death metal, forgive me if those are obvious to you.) And I have not ventured to check Dysrhythmia (half of Gorguts' current lineup's other band) but I hear there are many aural similarities between their work and Colored Sands. |
evilford
04.30.20 | Also, check Ulcerate's new album. :] |
Madbutcher3
04.30.20 | human remains is sorta like proto gorguts
martyr sounds sorta like the more modern gorguts sound but much techier, might just be dan mongrain's riff style |
evilford
04.30.20 | If we are going full tech death then yeah, martyr and atheist.
I'm gonna bet he's not ready for human remains tho.
Also, cynic - focus |
