| Top 10 R.e.m. Albums
Here are my top 10 favourite R.E.M. albums. | 1 | | R.E.M. Fables of the Reconstruction
Very underrated. This album has a really cool, beautifully murky atmosphere and has some of their best and most underrated songs, such as 'Kohoutek' and 'Good Advices'. | 2 | | R.E.M. Murmur
Their full length debut, and everything that made them so great was on show here. Michael Stipe was better when you couldn't hear what he was saying. | 3 | | R.E.M. Reckoning
Another great collection of songs, with more of a countryish flavour this time around. | 4 | | R.E.M. Lifes Rich Pageant
This is where they started to become a louder, more powerful band, but the songs are still great. This has got some of their best ever songs, such as 'Fall on Me' and 'Cuyahoga'. | 5 | | R.E.M. Automatic For The People
I hate 'Everybody Hurts', and this doesn't match up to the I.R.S. era material but this is still a great album. | 6 | | R.E.M. Out of Time
Probably their most melodic, catchy album ever, and I love it. I even think 'Shiny Happy People' is unfairly maligned by alot of people. The melodies are great on this album. | 7 | | R.E.M. Document
Less interesting than Lifes Rich Pageant, and this has some filler, but you've still got more classic songs here. | 8 | | R.E.M. Green
Lots of bubblegum pop-rock mixed with some darker, mandolin driven ballads. I like it quite alot, though it doesn't come close to the first four albums they did. | 9 | | R.E.M. New Adventures In Hi-Fi
Their last album with drummer Bill Berry, and it's quite patchy, but they still had some of the old magic left and it's another good R.E.M. album. | 10 | | R.E.M. Up
I think this is their best post-Bill Berry album. More electronica influenced and very, very slow. Maybe they could've trimmed it down by a couple of songs, but it's still the last album where they tried to take some chances. | |

11.16.08 | I just can't get into early R.E.M. dunno why.
They're a great band with some incredible songs, but I don't think they've ever made a truly classic album tbh.
Automatic for the People is probobly my fav, and I would include their new one Accelerate in their top 10 as well. | Captain North
11.16.08 | Why is 5 not 1? n00b | Boognish
11.16.08 | Because Automatic For The People isn't their best album. Most popular doesn't always= best, you know. | AtavanHalen
11.17.08 | Automatic is a work of genius. As is Green.
Their post-Berry stuff is ridiculously underrated. |
