SitarHero
09.30.20 | Lakers in 5. The Lakers are going to have their hands full running Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro off the line and I think Herro is going to have at least one MONSTER game, but I don't think the Heat have any answers for AD. |
AlexKzillion
09.30.20 | "but I don't think the Heat have any answers for AD."
Damn I feel the exact opposite. Think Bam can potentially slow down AD (and force AD to play most of his minutes at center)... but I don't think they have any answer for Lebron. Dude is just way too smart and will rip that zone to shreds if the Heat try to pull that on him, and I don't believe Crowder will have the same success defending Lebron as he did Giannis. |
SitarHero
10.01.20 | The way I see it, putting Bam on AD is a risk for several reasons. First, it means AD can take him out to the three point line and open up the lane for Lebron to create without a rim protector. If he leaves AD to help on defense it's going to mean AD is either open for 3 or for lobs. Alternatively, if AD posts up on Bam then the Heat risk him getting into foul trouble and they *definitely* don't want that to happen because it leaves them without arguably their most important player on offense and their best rim protector and playing Lebron without a bonafide rim protector is a bad bad not good idea.
This means that Crowder is probably going to match up against AD from the tip, and I don't think he's big, strong, quick or savvy enough to be anything more than 6 quick fouls against either AD or LeBron, but at least Bam can help out on defense, but this leaves either McGee or Dwight free for the lobs, which is still bad, but probably a better idea than having to help off AD. |
SitarHero
10.01.20 | Alternatively, the Heat could bust Leonard or Olynyk out of mothballs, but that seriously hampers the Heat on the offensive end which also helps the Lakers. The Heat are a scrappy team, but I don't see how they're going to come up with 4 wins against the Lakers if the Lakers defense is dialed in. |
Storm In A Teacup
10.01.20 | Congrats to Erik Spoelstra tho I gotta say. And Dwight Howard. |

10.01.20 | "I love my team but the lakers have been dominating and vs the celtics the heat were cutting things too close"

SitarHero
10.01.20 | 2 fouls on Bam in the first quarter and the Lakers come back from 13 down to take the lead at the end of the first. This is exactly what the Heat didn't want. |
SitarHero
10.01.20 | I gotta say though, Vogel is just treading water as a coach. He left Dwight out waaaaay too much against Denver when he was the closest thing to a Jokic-stopper and now he started Dwight instead of McGee against a smaller quicker team that McGee is the much more obvious choice. |

SitarHero
10.01.20 | Heat gonna have to lean heavily on Kendrick Nunn as their second creator now with Dragic's status up in the air. Dude can ball and it's super weird to see him barely crack the playoff rotation despite being one of their brightest lights in the regular season. Heat aren't going to win this series, but I think they still have one win in them, especially if Herro and Robinson get hot. |

10.01.20 | The Celts had no hope of defending the Lakers. Lebron is out there roasting Dragic, Robinson and Herro (and even Butler to be honest) on switches and all of those guys are better defenders than Kemba. Allow Lebron to get Kemba on a switch with Daniel Theis as the main rim protector and you're asking him to drop a 50 point triple double on you.
Sure, the Celtics have offensive firepower, but the Lakers have plenty of guys who match up well with the Celtics at every position and the Celtics aren't a good enough three point shooting team to force them to sit Dwight and McGee *or* to run the Lakers perimeter defense ragged the way Miami still might. It would have been a slaughter. |

10.01.20 | I mean the C's blew out the Lakers by 32 during the season with everyone healthy and lost the other game by 2. I know the playoffs are different but I think it would have been a lot close than you're thinking. Nobody in the league can match up with Lebron or AD, which is why I thought the Lakers would win in the first place. Two top 5 guys on the same team is almost guaranteed a ring in the NBA.
And the point about Lebron is that he wouldn't get Kemba on a switch. It would be Tatum, Brown, Hayward and Smart guarding him which are all really solid defenders. If there was a screen to try and get Kemba on the switch it would have been a scram switch where one of those guys I listed would come over to take LBJ and Kemba would slide over to their man. Which is what happened in both of their matchups during the season. Tatum, Brown, and Hayward would have made his life a lot tougher than Jimmy or Crowder.
AD would have been the biggest issue imo because Theis isn't guarding him and he's probably the best hope. Kanter would get fucking roasted all night by AD. Rob Williams is decent but too young. Grant Williams is too small to have any hope. |

IMO this would be a hopelessly bad idea because instead of allowing Lebron to isolate against Kemba, or to double team him with someone else and force the ball out of his hands, you're putting TWO defenders out of position.
Also, the only Celt with any history of being remotely effective against Lebron is Marcus Smart because the dude, as the saying goes, is built like a fire hydrant. I'm not sure why you'd think that Tatum, Brown and Hayward would have more luck with himm with their mediocre defensive abilities, than Butler and Iguodala, who have 6 All-Defensive team selections between them and are stronger and savvier than any of those 3 guys. |

Seemed to be a fine strategy of hiding Kemba all year considering they were a top 5 defense. And it worked perfectly fine when they blew the Lakers out by 32.

Not sure why it's so hard to figure out that throwing 4 good-great defenders at him is better than throwing 2 good defenders (Jimmy/Jae) and 1 36 year old with a bad back at him lol. If you really think Tatum and Brown are "mediocre" defenders then you really haven't been paying attention all year. Their one of the best two-way wing duos in the league at 22 and 23 years old. That was one game 5 years ago bro. Millions more people watch when there is a game 7 and often more watch if there is a game 6 as well. A low number for a finals game is 15 to 20 million viewers and 2020 game 1 had 7 million viewers, the lowest since LeBron was in the Finals in 2007. ESPN and LeBron have done a fantastic job of trying to create a legend bigger than Michael Jordan, but they’re falling on their faces right now. 10.10.20 | Hell of a game. Lakers in 6. |
SaveBandit
10.10.20 | Newfound respect for Jimmy after that game man. Really left it all on the court and made all the big plays down the stretch for Miami. My fingers are crossed for Heat in 7 but I feel like Lakers in 6 is more likely unfortunately. |

SitarHero
12.02.20 | Yeah they is nice. Still don't beat the black ones though. Those might be my favourite NBA jerseys of all time along with those pinstripe on black Bulls ones from back in the day. |
SitarHero
12.02.20 | Although, can you imagine watching the Heat play in those jerseys on the Nets monochrome homecourt, it's already weird enough watching a team like the Lakers play there. |

AlexKzillion
12.03.20 | "With John Wall being traded to Houston, I think a Bradley Beal trade to Miami could be a serious possibility now."
feel the exact opposite. the wizards trading for westbrook is a total win now move by them (they're basically guaranteed a playoff spot now). Wall has always been the inferior player and now he's coming off like two years of bad injuries, and they even attached a pick to get rid of him. they think they can eventually contend with this squad (and they're gonna prob fail spectacularly). basically them running back the 16-17 squad in their eyes. |
Ryus
12.03.20 | harden is probably packing his bags for brooklyn rn |
SitarHero
12.03.20 | "I think a Bradley Beal trade to Miami could be a serious possibility now."
Not without getting some combination of Herro, Robinson and Adebayo in return. The Wiz aren't going to trade their best player to a conference "rival" without getting something good in return. |
SitarHero
12.03.20 | "the wizards trading for westbrook is a total win now move by them (they're basically guaranteed a playoff spot now)."
The Wiz aren't guaranteed anything. The Hawks are low-key the biggest winners of the offseason and will probably make the playoffs instead of the Magic this year. I don't see the Wiz knocking off any of the East's other top 7. |
EyesWideShut
12.03.20 | Making the playoffs in the East is one thing but actually contending is another. The Wiz are not a threat at all and Westbrook's shooting will only get worse especially in the playoffs. |
AlexKzillion
12.03.20 | Oh I know, but the Wizards don't |
AlexKzillion
12.03.20 | "harden is probably packing his bags for brooklyn rn"
shit like this is why the nba will always be sorta lame for me lol. dudes sign these fat contracts, lose in the playoffs before the conference finals a few times, and then are just like "okay this isn't fun anymore trade me please". Not like this doesn't happen in other sports but this shit alters the entire complexion of the NBA. Creates champions and cellar-dwellers for years.
Like even with last year's Lakers team... so lame to me that an entire championship team is made up of veterans who weren't even on the team two seasons prior, with nobody they actually grew and developed themselves besides... KCP? Kyle Kuzma??? That fanbase hated Lebron Rondo and Dwight for like a decade and now they're your champions??? You're basically rooting for colors at that point. I have to imagine that shit was peanuts to watching Kobe win his last two for that fanbase. Feel like the league is just gonna go more and more in that direction. |
SitarHero
12.03.20 | "You're basically rooting for colors at that point."
LMAO! This is literally the way pro sports has almost always been and people get upset when I point that out. Seinfeld has an entire piece about this too. Rooting for a "hometown" pro sports team is like saying you prefer coke over pepsi because there's a bottling plant in your state. Atleast I get the appeal of college sports because they're not going to up and leave the minute they get a better tax deal in another city. |
Intothepit
12.03.20 | How is it a win now move? Westbrook is an even worse fit for the Wiz than John Wall. |
SaveBandit
12.03.20 | Hilarious trade. |
AlexKzillion
12.04.20 | How is trading for the guy who won MVP four years ago and is still sort of in his prime not a win now move? They also gave Bertans 5/80 they're obviously trying to build something around Beal here. Idk how anything they've done this offseason signals they are MORE inclined to trade Beal now. They even told Wall it was Beal's team and he could like it or leave it. |
Intothepit
12.04.20 | If it's a win now move, then it's a stupid one at that, because Russell's game and Beal's game don't mix. And regardless, it's going to be the same issue everyone else has had with Westbrook: he'll pad your stats but his efficiency ratings are near the bottom of the league. He's nothing but a statistical black hole. |
Hyperion1001
12.04.20 | giannis to heat 2021? |
AlexKzillion
12.05.20 | Bam getting his new contract so soon pretty much signals Miami believes Giannis isn't going anywhere. |
AlexKzillion
12.05.20 | And idk Beal was fucking elite last year, Russell made all-nba last year, Bertans is solid if overpaid, lots of young guys that could be respectable players next year. I respect what they're doing. There's ways to improve your team without outright tanking. They're not winning a championship but they're a respectable team now. |
Intothepit
12.06.20 | "Bam getting his new contract so soon pretty much signals Miami believes Giannis isn't going anywhere"
How is that the case? If anything that says Miami is invested in adding a third name next off-season. They still have PLENTY of cap space. |

AlexKzillion
12.06.20 | "How is that the case? If anything that says Miami is invested in adding a third name next off-season. They still have PLENTY of cap space."
Because it would have been far far easier to sign Giannis and then extend Bam if they believed Giannis was coming. Extending Bam now doesn't make it impossible, just makes it needlessly more complicated with having to shed salaries and possibly dump picks to make it happen now, and I don't think Pat Riley does that if he believed Giannis was really leaving. Could make Miami more alluring to Giannis by "taking care of their own" I guess idk |
GhostB1rd
12.06.20 | Guys stop talking about Giannis like he's not going to Dallas everybody knows that's gonna happen. |

AlexKzillion
12.07.20 | Nah he should stay in Milwaukee league is much more fun when all the top end talent isn't all on the same 2-3 teams |
Intothepit
12.07.20 | You don't seem to understand the Heat's cap situation. They've got it so they don't have to shed salary next year. They're bringing on a bunch of one year contracts eith team options for a 2nd. Theyvr positioned themselves perfect. It also helps that the Heat locked up one if Giannis' best friends in the league, Bam. It makes total sense in the play for Giannis. |
AlexKzillion
12.07.20 | As things stand now, Miami is already over the cap for 2021-22 at 130mil with Bam's new deal coming into effect, in a year where the cap is gonna contract to somewhere between 112-120mil (was originally predicted to be 125 pre-covid). Let's be generous and say it's gonna be 120.
Declining Iggy's option is a no brainer and takes the Heat down to 115/120. Declining Meyers Leonard's option takes you to 105/120. Still not low enough. Who else now? No way Herro is declined. Avery Bradley only makes 6mil which wouldn't make enough of a difference to warrant declining him. That pretty much leaves Dragic's 19.5mil option. Do you decline that? Maybe he'll suck post-injury and it'll be a no brainer, maybe not. That doesn't even include Duncan or Nunn's cap holds as restricted free agents. If either meets "starting criteria" their cap holds go from 2.1mil to 4.7mil, which could further complicate things.
Now again, this isn't to say they can't still sign him, or make some moves from now until then to make it easier (or even get him in an even more convoluted sign and trade). I just laid out the road map. But that road map is now far more complicated than simply "sign Giannis, then re-sign Bam using bird rights, voila". Again, I don't believe Pat Riley gives up that type of flexibility if he thought Giannis was leaving, just to extend a guy a year early who had no plans of leaving anyway. |
GhostB1rd
12.07.20 | Or go join young Luka and KP with plenty of cap space. |
AlexKzillion
12.07.20 | lmao was expecting to have to do a deep dive there too but nah just cut WCS and hope the cap doesn't contract too too much and you're there basically |
Intothepit
12.07.20 | Alex, left off a big investment that's off the books next year, and that's Kelly O's contract. That's another $13 mil off the cap.
Listen, I don't want Giannis. While he is a once in a lifetime talent, we already have two lane cloggers in Bam and Jimmy. He'd be a better fit in Dallas. I would rather get more of another 2-way guard or wing, like Jrue. He's a much better fit. And Giannis is leaving Milwaukee. The only way he even THINKS about staying is if they get a ring this year, and even that is not a guarantee. |
GhostB1rd
12.07.20 | Little by little you all will come to the realization that the Mavs have the next great American dynasty. |
Ryus
12.07.20 | *knicks |
AlexKzillion
12.07.20 | That 130 number is without Olynyk, Duncan, and Nunn believe it or not. Jimmy, Bam, and Dragic combine for 83.5/130 by themselves. Add in Iggy and Leonard and then the rest of the roster and it all adds up very quickly.
Between Bam's early extension, LBJ and AD taking extensions so early (Lakers would've been in play for Giannis had they not signed extensions so early, as nefarious as that seems), and the Bucks trading away their whole future for Jrue... just really seems to me the league believes Giannis will re-sign with the Bucks.
I think PG has a solid chance of leaving the Clippers though, less so Kawhi. |
Hyperion1001
12.07.20 | im honestly all in on denver this year. jokic/murray is already an elite duo and i think porter makes a significant jump (hopefully he's learned to play some defense). campazzo looks like a really interesting prospect too.

12.09.20 | Damn lmao that’s actually great news in a way. That means I may not need to buy a package since Thunder won’t take up any time on the big games and I’ll have every Thunder game on local. Every Mavericks game is also available for free for us Okies. Both of my jobs are create my own schedule so I can watch 200 games easily this season. |

Storm In A Teacup
12.09.20 | I just hope George Hill and Al Horford play well and a lot so we can trade them for young players or more 1st round picks. Giannis will be forced to choose the Thunder or the Mavericks eventually to win a championship and the Thunder will have 6 first round picks to give the Bucks lol |

12.11.20 | I am betting the Thunder end up trading half their picks for a superstar or two players that would make the Thunder compete in top 3 or 4 of WCF by 2023. All they really care about is the 2021 draft and using those picks. |

12.11.20 | Shai and Dort are already nice starting points for a rebuild, and I cannot think of a team having this much draft capital as the thunder do right now like, ever lol |
Storm In A Teacup
12.11.20 | Well....the Thunder also have a $27.5 million and $19.5 million trade exceptions to use in the next 12 months as well... |
Storm In A Teacup
12.11.20 | Can literally trade one of our scrubs for a $30m player lol and another scrub for a $20m player |
Storm In A Teacup
12.11.20 | So any superstars who want out or teams that want a regular star gone can get a shit ton of picks next offseason and Thunder don’t have to match salary. Those trade exceptions might be more important than half of those picks. |
Storm In A Teacup
12.11.20 | It looks likely the Thunder can get someone as good as Jonathon Kuminga in the next draft and with those moves off-season Thunder could compete for a championship before 2025 which I assume is Presti’s goal |
