Porcupine Tree LPs Ranked

all the ranking lists inspired me to finally do it. one of my favorite bands
1Porcupine Tree
Fear of a Blank Planet

Message is relevant and well-told but this album sees Steven at his most sanctimonious in the PT discog. Still the most consistent and listenable of the modern PT records. Some of the moments here are hypnotizing
2Porcupine Tree
In Absentia

Their best release but the flow of the album messes with my ability to return consistently. Might re-order the tracklist for myself sometime. Despite the gr8 storytelling, I don't think the concept is that earth shattering. It's a bunch of PT themes that already existed, kind of cobbled together to form a loose story that's more purposefully morbid than previous releases. But what do I know
3Porcupine Tree
Deadwing

Damn near perfect record, has some of my absolute favorites, but I often cherrypick them out depending on my mood, rather than listen to the album front to back
4Porcupine Tree
Signify

Just sublime. I'm not big on jammy stuff in general but this one has always checked the right boxes for me. Lowkey underrated. Listening to this one and Stupid Dream the most lately, but Signify has been a favorite since my teens
5Porcupine Tree
Stupid Dream

Always jammed Stranger By The Minute but the album has really grown on me last few months. Has some of their best work
6Porcupine Tree
The Incident

Well executed but still falls flat. Disc 2 has some of the most beautiful tunes the final PT lineup ever wrote. Seeing them play Time Flies live back in 2012 was a top 10 life moment for me tho
7Porcupine Tree
Up the Downstair

Definitely my favorite of the more kraut-y stuff. Cool precursor to the heavier metal n kraut influenced tunes on Deadwing and Fear of a Blank Planet. Also has some of the coolest bleak PT atmospheres, with Fadeaway and Small Fish being highlights
8Porcupine Tree
Lightbulb Sun

Have a feeling this one will warm up on me in a similar way to Stupid Dream, but for now it's pretty low on the ranking. Several of the songs here are top PT for me, but I haven't been sold on the album yet
9Porcupine Tree
The Sky Moves Sideways

has Stars Die so is good but yeah not a fave overall
10Porcupine Tree
On the Sunday of Life

Neat but not that memorable
