the good bandcamp stuff: march 2021

what the title says. it's mostly gaze lol
1Grids and Dots
What Happens to Friendships?

dream pop / shoegaze

Super chill gazey dream pop from a brand new Australian band, perfect for the increasing temperatures. Slowdivian approach to vox works incredibly well, just a wonderful little record to ~vibe~ to.

for fans of: Slowdive, Widowspeak, Beach Fossils, Sun June

2Euphoria Again
Lifetime

country / dream pop

Blend of country and indie rock with some dreamy tendencies. Some truly excellent songs surrounded by a lot of pleasant fluff, but that's more than okay

ffo: Holy Motors, Madeline Kenney, Fog Lake

3The Whole Bolivian Army
Scream

gothic / indie rock ish kinda

This band has been around since the early 90s and have 332 monthly listeners on Spotify, goddamn. They deserve better: this album is seriously great WolfeRundle-core, with some slightly more 'fun'/out-there moments. The opening pair of tracks are particularly incredible, give this thing a shot!

ffo: Emma Ruth Rundle, Chelsea Wolfe, Iress

4Michael Quinn
Colours

IDM / house

Sigh, yes, this is a very colourful album. It is best described as a bunch of wonderful moments strung together by lovely ambient textures, resulting in the perfect working/studying/doingstuffyouknow record.

ffo: Jazzuelle, Samiyam, Helios

5Crystal Canyon
Yours With Affection and Sorrow

shoegaze

Some high quality MBV worship. That's all you really need to know: lovely textures and atmospheres, drowned out vocals, aaah i love shoe gays.

ffo: My Bloody Valentine, Slow Crush, Nothing

6Gaadge
Yeah?

sh..oegaze

Imagine that one album Pitchfork reviewed a week ago but like quirkier and with more listenable production. That's Gaadge, Yeah?? The highs are really highs and the lows are relatively low, but these guys have a lot of potential.

ffo: Parannoul, Pitchfork, PP

7Bell Plaines
Dunes

post rock / ambient

A lovely companion piece to last year's excellent Through Fog: this dude doesn't miss. Some wonderful ambient-y post rock that makes everything around you seem just a little softer (smiley face).

ffo: Hammock, Lights Out Asia, Explosions in the Sky

8sonhos tomam conta
wierd

shoegaze / post rock

sonhos tomam conta's first full length isn't amazing, but there's a whole lot of potential here. Armed with more reverb than an empty hangar, this is 50 minutes of nearly impenetrable and heavy gaze, but it makes for a pretty fun challenge.

ffo: Mumrunner, Stomp Talk Modstone, The Daysleepers
