Takes everything that John Carpenter is good at and set it to his bleakest and most unsettling images. This is eldritch horror at its best. |

04.11.21 | Star Wars Episode I
IDK how many times I have watched this film over and over again and it's never enough. I love Ewan McGregor and I love the fights. As a kid I though Jar Jar was adorable, as an adult I am fascinated by the politics and trade jargon. Darth Maul is my favorite Sith and Qui-Gonn Jinn is my favorite jedi and it was the first movie I saw Liam Neeson in and he has been my favorite actor ever since. The CGI still holds up (unlike attack of the clones tbqh) and I like the ye olde sounding dialogue in the script. It was the movie that made me the Star Wars junkie I am today. Oh and I love the Pod racing. |

04.12.21 | Spirited Away
There has never been and never will be a more beautifully animated movie, the pacing is absolutely perfect and Joe Hisaishi's score is among his best. The script has a ton of problems but I just don't give a shit about any of them when actually watching the movie so can't really judge it for them either. |

04.12.21 | Having a little flick through there’s a lot of classics, some mentioned, some not. I love Pulp Fiction, Eyes Wide Shut, Mulholland Drive, Godfather, Departed, Mulholland Drive, True Romance, Usual Suspects, 28 Days Later, In Bruges, Memento etc.
BUT
the movie I probably enjoyed more than any other and had the entire cinema in hysterics was Shaun Of The Dead. The best horror comedy there will ever be, perfection, a slice of fried gold. |

cordwainerbird
04.12.21 | i suggest for the sake of ur health that u watch more underground films |
Shemson
04.12.21 | Haha thanks but I’m 33 I’m not an anything major! I’ve always thought classics are classics for a reason, they’re just damn fine movies. I’ve seen plenty of arty movies - Holy Mountain when in college or I’m Thinking of Ending It more recently and whilst I really enjoy them for what they are, they don’t tend to satisfy me like the ones I listed. What do you recommend given what I enjoy? |

04.12.21 | interesting shem! wonder why i get so much less out of the classics - ive seen them (every one u listed there) but nothin gets me quite like the midnight weirdo flicks
i think i'd recommend Kung Fu Hustle if u have not seen it already. awesome intersection of film classic and absurdist underground foreign feature - Stephen Chow is a comedic genius and u seem to appreciate oddball comedies. if u want an unsung avant-garde queer film masterpiece that is very close to me try Liquid Sky (the blu-ray version) |

04.12.21 | American psycho feels like a very good b-film I dunno maybe it just aged poorly for me. The parts where he rants about random 80’s music before doing his thing were legit more scary than the chainsaw chasing scene. Also who the fuck is Patrick Bateman... |

04.13.21 | brazil is one of those movies that is a visual feast but it has a pretty straightforward brit-comedy storyline that's always felt wholly antithetical with its surrealist slew of sets and atmosphere. still love it but it's hard to enjoy it like others do. ive always preferred Dark City (which i consider like a kindred spirit to Brazil) for this reason |

Brazil led to one of the best samples in music, especially as I heard the song before seeing the movie. Cradle of Filth - Lord Abortion just before the drop at the beginning ‘care for a little necrophilia, hm?’. Watching the movie after like ten years of listening to Midian was a big ‘Leo Di Caprio pointing at the tv’ moment for me |

Not sure how some of you don't see the connection between Office Space with Fight Club and American Beauty. Sure they're different films tonally, but they're all about dissections of the middle class American workplace in the 90s as well as materialism and suburbia (Fight Club less on the last part). Plus they call came out in '99. |
