Yeah, well, I don't think you're gonna see anymore of those anymore anyway. I've enjoyed the Daniel Craig era, but I get why this will be his last. He is getting a little long in the tooth. |
CaliggyJack
04.17.21 | He should have ended after Skyfall |

04.17.21 | I did a list like this a few months back, because I used the pandemic to finally watch all of the Bond films. But when I did it, I forgot to rank Diamonds Are Forever. I think I said after the fact it should have gone right after You Only Live Twice.

04.17.21 | There was also a TV movie version of Casino Royale done before any of the Connery films that had Bond as an American (of all things), with Barry Nelson as Bond. I've still never seen that one. |
wojodta
04.17.21 | 6 is 1. Connery is still the best IMO. He had the perfect balance of all of Bond's attributes. |
Divaman
04.17.21 | >Because way back when the word "Pussy" didn't make pre-pubescent teenage boys giggle every 5 fucking minutes.
Yeah, it did. And that was kind of the point. I love the Bond films, but most of Fleming's names for Bond women were pretty cringeworthy (although I think in Fleming's original short story, "Octopussy" was a somebody's pet Octopus and not actually a Bond woman.) |
CaliggyJack
04.17.21 | Nah. Back in the 80's stand up was still good so people had other outlets for humor. Even if they did, calling a movie "Octopussy" in the 80's or even before that wasn't as ridiculous as calling a movie Octopussy now. |
Divaman
04.17.21 | Dude, trust me, I was there. It was named after Ian Fleming's 1966 James Bond short story, and Fleming knew exactly what he was doing. Look at some of his other characters, like Pussy Galore, Plenty O'Toole, etc. Sniggering humor has been around at least as long as I've been around, and unfortunately, that was often Ian Fleming's sense of humor. |
CaliggyJack
04.17.21 | I wasn't responding to that part. I'm not saying it didn't exist, but if you think that it is to the level of immature humor of today I got a bridge to sell you. I'm well aware of Ian's intentions, but again, compared to now, that stuff is tame in comparison. |

Mesm277
04.17.21 | A View to a Kill might be a bad Bond movie but the theme is killer. Casino Royale is the best film and theme in one |
wojodta
04.17.21 | Diamonds are Forever is hilarious. That's why I'd never call it the worst Bond film. If you don't take it serious, it can be enjoyable. |
Trebor.
04.17.21 | Not a fan of these movies but Moonraker was funny |
Divaman
04.17.21 | I'll get clobbered for this, but I think A View to a Kill is underrated. Christopher Walken. Grace Jones. Patrick McNee (aka John Steed of the old British spy show The Avengers) in the supporting cast. And as Mesm277 said, a kickass title theme. I enjoyed it. |
Mesm277
04.17.21 | One of the main problems for me is that Moore was way too old by then to be Bond |

04.18.21 | Most of my faves near the top. Casino and LTK my top 2. Spectre and Quantum (no. 16?) bottom 2 for me. Craig in 2 of the best and 2 of the worst Bond films. I'm a Moore fan so have his a lot higher, especially Live and Let Die and Spy, and A View To a Kill is fun, Walken awesome. Brosnan seemed the perfect Bond in waiting in Remington Steele but I was left underwhelmed in his films. Goldeneye is great but a bit overrated for me. Onatopp one of the best Bond women. Connery the best Bond. |

04.18.21 | Yeah Moore should retired form the role after FYEO, it felt pretty weird to see him pushing 50 "romancing" these like 20 year old women lol. He also just didn't seem convincing enough as a physical opponent to anyone he was fighting. |
Wj2006
04.18.21 | Coast quantum of solace is pretty mediocre but its nowhere near as aggressively bad as some of the other films. Spectre is honestly pretty disjointed as a Daniel Craig bond film but in terms of bond films in general I thought it was pretty good, particularly Christoph Waltz, I don't know how you could see it was bad as something like die another day or the last few Moore films. |
Wj2006
04.18.21 | Slugboiiii Goldeneye was pretty my childhood bond film and is probably the better than Casio and Skyfall in terms of being a "bond film" but I overall enjoy those two more just as movies |

04.19.21 | Spectre makes more sense as an entry in the Daniel Craig franchise tone wise, at least it's more consistent. To be fair also, I feel like there's a massive drop in quality in these movies from position 5 onwards, there's a point when rating them becomes pretty tricky as they're just silly overlong movies |

the plot is ok. I guess it's just a really solid reboot of the OG novel. Craig as Bond is interesting to watch and the series goes back to its gritty roots to make for a pretty enthralling modern Bond. The story is solid enough and in itself kinda takes a jab at the typical Bond arc of saving the world guns blazing. Plus Eva Green

04.21.21 | It always baffles me how good the first 3 Craig films are, because I think he is the worst James Bond of the lot. Dude has 0 charisma, but CR, QOS and Skyfall are easily some of the best entries in the series. Spectre was a shitpiece though, has Craig's portrayal really didn't do it any favors.
My personal favorite Bond is probably Brosnan, and Goldeneye will always be my favorite Bond film. I know his films after Goldeneye aren't that good, but his portrayal of the character saves what would some pretty lackluster entries for me. |
