03.08.22 | hating on nu metal is so unhip rn, man |

03.08.22 | How does nu metal hurt anything? It’s just a sub genre like every other one that no one has to listen to if they don’t want to. You think linkin park would’ve gone on to write some sophisticated death metal if these albums didn’t exist? Lol |

03.08.22 | I love Nu and Glam Metal, think they both had their place in Metal's history and did a lot of good for the overall survival of Heavy Metal, neckbeards can hate all they want, Normies were never going to be won over by Black and Death Metal ffs. |
DarkSideOfLucca
03.08.22 | I dont think it was either, I think it just created a new sound for the time. It added to music history, but the reality is all other types of metal still existed during that time as well. I got into nu-metal back in the 90s and that was my gateway into thrash, death metal, prog, etc.
Of course in the mid 2000s I turned and hated it like everyone else, but now that I'm older it's hard to really hate on it. I still jam nu-metal to this day. |

03.08.22 | Nu metal owns. For better of worse the musical landscape of today would be a much different world |

03.08.22 | i think 1's influence goes beyond just nu-metal |

03.08.22 | I love me some nu metal. Just because there were some not-so-good bands in the genre doesn't offset the greatness that it had (Korn, Deftones, System of a Down, etc). In fact, I've said this many times, but I'll take the genre's best bands over the "classic" metal that so many people have tried to tell me is better than nu metal (Maiden, Priest, et al) any day of the week. The quality of music doesn't depend on how fast you can solo, it's about whether or not the music is any damn good! |

03.08.22 | If u average out every post-1980 attempt to innovate within the confines of mainstream guitar music, nu metal surely fares no worse than hair metal or post-grunge or pop punk |
AlexKzillion
03.08.22 | the majority of the people on this site prob would not be here if not for nu metal |
DarkSideOfLucca

03.08.22 | yeah bands like Korn and Linkin Park got a generation of kids into metal. I don’t listen to much of it anymore but nu-metal=good |

03.08.22 | Nu-Metal gave us Limp Bizkit and so of course it helped musical history. |

03.08.22 | Very nice non-judgmental comments in this tread. I like that.

03.08.22 | that big drum fill in Deftones "Bored" is more important than any thrash tune |
JKing92
03.08.22 | The hi-hat work at the beginning of "Blind" is better than any New Wave of British Heavy Metal song |
Relinquished
03.08.22 | still the worst song the album
it’s pretty good but goddamn the bands they influenced really did run with that idea to the ground |
JKing92
03.08.22 | Perhaps they did, but that doesn't mean that the intro doesn't send me into raptures in ways that Maiden and Priest never can. |

03.09.22 | I think we all have one nu-metal album we could each pick that made the whole thing worth it. 😀 |

03.09.22 | why every post JKing makes be like "I got a cat the other day, its name is Muffin and Iron Maiden suck" |

03.09.22 | Super influential genre at this point, but it can get really boring if not done well. I personally love both these albums along with both their subsequent releases. |

03.09.22 | Genuine question, but how would it have “hurt” musical history? It’s probably one the most important in terms of recruiting folks who eventually wander into enjoying extreme metal. |
Koris
03.09.22 | ^that, and the fact that it redefined how 7 and 8-string guitars would be used in metal going forward |
DominionMM1
03.09.22 | maybe but i honestly believe that most extreme metal fans wouldve found their way to it by hook or by crook |
JeetJeet
03.09.22 | I'd keep nu-metal but I'd zap Korn out of existence |

Not when the majority of modern djent and metalcore bands rip off Hybrid-era Linkin Park in one way or another |
