Ryus
04.24.22 | theyre all good except dune which is still fun in a lot of ways |
ArsMoriendi
04.24.22 | I still need to see 7-9, but
4 > 3 > 5 > 2 > 1 > 6 |
DominionMM1
04.24.22 | totally forgot 6 was david lynch |
CaliggyJack
04.24.22 | 7>6>4>1>3>2>5>8>9
His Dune film is underrated imho |
Ryus
04.24.22 | dune is just absurd, sometimes in good ways and sometimes in bad ways |
CaliggyJack
04.24.22 | Pretty much yea |
DoofDoof
04.24.22 | pretty good ranking tbh
6 could maybe be above 5 |
YoYoMancuso
04.24.22 | 2 is maybe my favorite movie ever but i can respect Eraserhead at 1 |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | I have been putting off watching straight story for over a decade.
I’d have Wild at heart and lost highway much higher and inland empire much lower |
Ryus
04.24.22 | the straight story is nice and lovely and heartwarming |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | I’ll do it eventually
It’s really hard but if probably put blue velvet #1 |
Jasdevi087
04.24.22 | Straight Story is very good, yes. In some ways feels like a very early precursor to some of the themes in The Return.
I was actually gonna make my own Lynch ranking lol, probably still will, I think we might only agree on Dune being bottom :o |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Just noticed you haven’t seen Fire Walk With Me and are currently watching twin peaks. Where are you at in it? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | If it weren’t for the fact that the films effectiveness hinges on the show and the return if put fire walk with me as 1 but considering his films as standalone material it has to be Blue Velvet |
Ryus
04.24.22 | "I was actually gonna make my own Lynch ranking lol, probably still will, I think we might only agree on Dune being bottom :o"
do it man, always down for more lynch discussion around here
i'm on s2e11 potsy |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | You should watch Fire Walk With Me now then. Ideal time to watch it is right after the big reveal. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | And then when you inevitably rewatch the entire series, watch fwwm first |
Ryus
04.24.22 | ohh shit i assumed the best time was after the end of season 2. ill probably watch it tonight then |
MrSirLordGentleman
04.24.22 | 6 is kinda low imo but they all rule so it's all fine
"2 is maybe my favorite but i can respect Eraserhead at 1" [2] |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Some people would say to watch both seasons then FWWM but I think it’s more just for the convenience of not interrupted season 2 at such a weird time. I think after the reveal is the perfect time cuz ur still kind of reeling from the freshness of that episode, whereas season 2 kind of has a bit of a cool down after that episode before it introduces a new story arch. I think my way is maximum emotional impact and you already have all the context you need for the film without spoiling anything |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | A digression but The Return has a lot more to do with the movie than the show in a lot of ways, it makes the movie even better in hindsight |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | People who watched twin peaks for the camp hated the movie cuz it’s full mindfuck twin peaks, not a lot of comic relief like the show |
neekafat
04.24.22 | anyone who has straight story that low doesn't get film |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Neek ur not allowed to gatekeep, those privledges are revoked from film students who entertain marvel films and u know it
I don’t make the rules |
neekafat
04.24.22 | Haven't seen Inland or Wild at Heart Yet but:
1. The Straight Story: 4.9
2. Muholland Drive: 4.9
3. The Elephant Man: 4.2
4. Lost Highway: 4.1
5. Eraserhead: 4.1
6. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me: 3.2
7. Blue Velvet: 2.5
8. Dune: 2.0 |
neekafat
04.24.22 | Lol i don't like saying things like that but The Straight Story is criminally underrated so I will defend it to an abusive degree |
Ryus
04.24.22 | sounds good potsy im super excited for the film
"anyone who has straight story that low doesn't get film"
i gave it ~4.0 and this dude tryna talk shit
papa david just doesnt miss (except for dune) |
Ryus
04.24.22 | "7. Blue Velvet: 2.5" bruh |
neekafat
04.24.22 | hahaha it's just a perfect movie man, it just gets it idk |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Bruh to make matters much much worse you just 2.5’d Blue Velvet what the absolute fuckery is this list |
neekafat
04.24.22 | Blue Velvet is a stupid movie with some fantastic sequences, otherwise pretty much everything I don't like about Lynch. His relationship with exploitation filmmaking is v shaky |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Blue Velvet is literally a film student wet dream |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | U are way too wholesome for this world neek, I worry for you |
combustion07
04.24.22 | 1. Lost Highway
2. Eraserhead
3. Blue Velvet
4. Fire Walk With Me
5. Elephant Man
6. Mulholland Drive
7. Inland Empire
8. Dune
I haven't seen the others and Mulholland Drive honestly might deserve to sit higher but I haven't seen it in ages and don't recall much about it. Same with IE |
Ryus
04.24.22 | "People who watched twin peaks for the camp hated the movie cuz it’s full mindfuck twin peaks, not a lot of comic relief like the show"
sounds like i will love the movie |
neekafat
04.24.22 | "Blue Velvet is literally a film student wet dream"
exactly why it pisses me off lol its all formalist wonkery with no heart
Fire Walk with Me is the same kinda, it just doesn't know when to fucking end, like we get it dude stop |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | If you’re not careful the white lodge might conspire to use you as a nuclear innocence bomb in a ploy to trap and destroy evil itself in an alternate dimension |
neekafat
04.24.22 | if you like rape films you'll love Fire Walk with Me |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Nah fwwm is amazing too u are just a big softie |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Neek you should check I spit on your grave bro you’d love it |
neekafat
04.24.22 | the first two thirds of it are yeah and then after that you're as fucked as Lynch if you think it's earned lol
we learn absolutely nothing new in the third act of that film, it's just a visual representation of shit that was already explained in gruesome detail, except it hurts even worse bc of how well they make you care for Laura |
neekafat
04.24.22 | hahaha good one ig |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | So basically you don’t like fwwm because it hurts ur feelings?
We watch movies for very different reasons my friend |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | We haven’t learned anything new about a single established MCU character in nearly the last entire decade fwiw |
JohnnyoftheWell
04.24.22 | "its all formalist wonkery with no heart"
"except it hurts even worse bc of how well they make you care for Laura"
the blend of industry cynicism and incurable sentimentalism between these two takes makes my heart cavity and bladder want to throttle each other to a sad shitty death |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Lmao |
DePlazz
04.24.22 | 6 is 1 and 4 is 2 for me, otherwise good list |
neekafat
04.24.22 | it's almost like I was talking about two different movies hmmmm |
neekafat
04.24.22 | then again "industry cynicism and incurable sentimentalism" is my forte ig |
neekafat
04.24.22 | or you could just call it empathy idk |
JohnnyoftheWell
04.24.22 | it is possible for shitty paintings to be composed of multiple shitty colours you finicky shitsprite buy me a beer
if you have no empathy for isabella rossellini's character because film school told you aesthetic acts of violence were bad then i have none for u xo |
neekafat
04.24.22 | you'd love that murder/rape scene in Last Night in Soho pots, highly recommend
|
neekafat
04.24.22 | what the fuck do you get out of the third act of fwwm
seriously curious |
DePlazz
04.24.22 | IE is like Von Trier's Dogville, it can totally turn you off in the first 30-45 minutes but then when it starts to grow and hits back in the end, man... something else. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Yeah but it paints a picture that you have pretty narrow margins for what constitutes acceptable filmmaking based on a superficial metric where if something doesn’t respect your feelings it doesn’t have a place in film |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | I have more empathy than other people because I can’t stomach film that makes me
uncomfortable |
neekafat
04.24.22 | lmfao yeah sure that's what im sayin dude
glad to know a 3.2/5 constitutes unacceptable filmmaking. I'm saying the climax doesn't add anything to anything except shock value. explain to me how its necessary |
neekafat
04.24.22 | at this point im just asking for your genuine opinion on why you like the shit outside of it being "uncomfortable" which you haven't given |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | I hate rape scenes. They are awful. Especially when they gratuitous and serve no purpose. Sometimes they do serve a purpose. That shit happens in real life and it’s hard to face. Doesn’t make a scene more bearable to watch, but the intent matters. Irreversible is gratuitous as fuck, but that scene has purpose and it is very very effective at that purpose, which is to make the reverse climax of the film that much more visceral. If you watched that movie and felt nothing then yes you probably lack empathy, but simply not being able to face something devastating doesn’t make you an enlightened viewer |
neekafat
04.24.22 | ok great i agree with all of that |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Like what shit specifically neek? Blue Velvet or Fwwm? I like them both because they are challenging and provocative and artistic and they make me feel things and as a misanthrope the fucked upness of humanity and the human mind and mental illness resonates with me and feels very real and I like to feel raw emotions, not just happy fuzzy feelings |
rabidfish
04.24.22 | Inland Empire rocks but it's more cool if you watch all his weird internet stuff he made around that time to fully get into the experience. I recommend "dumbland" especially, it's like beavis and butthead or ATHF, but with the Lynch twist. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | If you stripped any movie down to what is strictly necessary based off your own opinions they’d all be terrible husks of a film I fear. If you are asking me why the Laura rape scene is necessary, nothing is necessary, it is chosen, I imagine in this instance the intent was to spark a visceral reaction and give you a full dose of the reality of the trauma Laura dealt with. That scene is traumatizing as fuck. Laura is traumatized as fuck. It makes you fear Leland and Bob personally, not vicariously, and it makes you feel violated. All of which is likely the point. |
DePlazz
04.24.22 | Djeez get a room |
neekafat
04.24.22 | "and I like to feel raw emotions, not just happy fuzzy feelings"
ok I'm not insulting you anymore stop it |
Ryus
04.24.22 | havent seen FWWM but so far, twin peaks is nothing if not empathetic. id be surprised if FWWM was any different |
fogza
04.24.22 | FWWM is much more bleak than the show |
neekafat
04.24.22 | but yeah that all makes sense to me. i just don't think a lot of it is earned beyond the brutal trauma of it, which yeah is probably the point, but not a very compelling one imo. definitely very involving and strongly directed film of course (talking about fwwm ofc, did not find blue velvet involving at all), i just think a lot of its energy was misplaced. so much beauty in that film, and so much gross terror even without it going completely overboard |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | “ ok I'm not insulting you anymore stop it”
? |
neekafat
04.24.22 | "FWWM is much more bleak than the show" yeah by like 30x |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | What do you mean by “earned” exactly
And honestly film that contrasts beautify and terror or whatever words you want to use are pretty much exactly my vibe, Cuz that’s kinda how real life do be, I find the duality of that most relatable in a ideological and spiritual sense |
JeetJeet
04.24.22 | Love almost all his stuff except Dune and Blue Velvet, both of which are big ass. Looking forward to his new project |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Fwwm is just a concentration of the darkest moments of twin peaks without the contrast of the lightness. It’s no darker than the darkest moments of the show. But it’s directly about the darkness of the show so idk what people were expecting there. They knew the plot. |
YoYoMancuso
04.24.22 | yo wtf is with all these blue velvet takes |
rabidfish
04.24.22 | blue velvet is insanely good. But besides that objective truth, how tf do you enjoy any of his stuff and not like BV? It's lynch 101, man. |
fogza
04.24.22 | Blue velvet is probably my favorite lynch movie, although I think the twin peaks return show is the best thing he's done |
YoYoMancuso
04.24.22 | The Return is fucking incredible |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | The return is indeed the best thing he’s ever done and blue velvet is indeed his quintessential film tho I see room for the counter argument that that award be reserved for Mulholland Drive or Eraserhead |
fogza
04.24.22 | EH is great but i don't really enjoy it, rather can just recognize it's amazing. I never really clicked with MD. |
Gyromania
04.24.22 | eraserhead is the best one i've seen by him |
JeetJeet
04.24.22 | "how tf do you enjoy any of his stuff and not like BV? It's lynch 101, man."
Idk man its just whack as fuck to me. And Dennis Hopper's character just made me laugh by how awful he was. |
neekafat
04.24.22 | "honestly film that contrasts beautify and terror or whatever words you want to use are pretty much exactly my vibe"
this and you self-describing yourself as a "misanthrope" are all I needed to get why you like it (not a dig, makes total sense then) |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Frank is goat villain and Dennis Hoppers best role |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Fair neek |
JeetJeet
04.24.22 | Lost Highway, FWWM, and Mulholland Drive are the holy trinity |
neekafat
04.24.22 | some people here obvs need to see TSS
I lean on the roger ebert side of "early Lynch was kinda rough but then he made two back-to-back masterpieces so who gives a shit lol" |
fogza
04.24.22 | Blue velvet balances the surreal, the horror and the absurd humour brilliantly. It's one of the few movies that perfectly houses Hopper's outsize acting, like casting genius by lynch |
YoYoMancuso
04.24.22 | Mulholland Drive is purely the one that resonates with me the most and I feel like that’s what Lynch is about |
Ryus
04.24.22 | mulholland drive is conceptually incredibly perfect but doesn't connect w me emotionally like eraserhead does. both 5s though |
rabidfish
04.24.22 | The Return is his magnum opus, hard agree. |
Ryus
04.24.22 | im so excited to get to The Return lol. literally everyone i know, both here and irl, has been hyping it up to the max |
Gyromania
04.24.22 | havent seen lost highway, straight story, blue velvet, elephant man, or twin peaks. i'm mostly familiar with his earlier stuff. the alphabet and other shorts, eraserhead, mullholland drive, and that rly, rly fucking bad thing he put out on netflix a couple years ago with the monkey |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Ryus, The Return is so good it makes the original look like chump change, and the original was already the greatest television show of all time
Also
Lynch monkey time short was hilarious |
ArsMoriendi
04.24.22 | The Return is the best thing Lynch probably ever did |
Ryus
04.24.22 | pots how do you feel about the second half of season 2 |
Ryus
04.24.22 | ""The Return is the best thing Lynch probably ever did"
its crazy how many people seem to be in agreement about this, considering how fucking good most of his stuff is. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Season 2 undeniably dulls down for a little bit after Lelend goes bye bye but picks back up again and includes a some of the best episodes of the show
I don’t mind the temporary reprieve in the grand scheme of things. |
combustion07
04.24.22 | I haven't seen the comeback of Twin Peaks yet but it's good to see some praise for it. I honestly forgot it happened and I need to get on it asap |
neekafat
04.24.22 | agreed, the end of S2 completely brought it back to me I couldn't believe how strong that final run was
Still making my way through The Return!! Lovingg it so far tho |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | I’ve watched the Return 4x lol |
YoYoMancuso
04.24.22 | Yeah the last few episodes of season 2 are pretty fantastic |
neekafat
04.24.22 | i don't blame you! the initial Dougie Jones arc (outside of the casino sequence ofc) bugged me but I'm back into it lol |
YoYoMancuso
04.24.22 | HELLLLOOOoooOOOOooOOOOO |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | The dougie jones arch is hilarious but very worrying the first time around especially as you start running out of episodes and that’s all I’ll say about that since ryus hasn’t seen but in the end it it all works out imo |
rabidfish
04.24.22 | Dougie is blessed. Like, he is literally blessed. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Oh dougie |
Gyromania
04.24.22 | "Lynch monkey time short was hilarious"
what was funny about it? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.24.22 | Literally everything |
Gyromania
04.24.22 | it just seemed like david lynch rly far up his own ass, to me. maybe i'll rewatch it, because i don't rly remember the subject matter much or anything rly outside of the song, which i def didn't find funny or creative |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.25.22 | felt like the complete opposite to me
literally just Lynch fuckin around and having some fun |
Hyperion1001
04.25.22 | inland empire has always been my favorite but i also really love lost highway.
still need to see the twin peaks reboot. |
Gyromania
04.25.22 | Man I need to see twin peaks period haha. Hard to find a good dl tho |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.25.22 | all of it is on crave |
Avagantamos
04.25.22 | I need to watch more of his movires, but twin peaks S3 was one of the most insane things I've ever seen |
Veldin
04.25.22 | Inland Empire is getting a restoration soon which is exciting |
Veldin
04.25.22 | Yeah agree with others that TP Return is my favorite. Also looooove Fire Walk With Me |
Ryus
04.25.22 | yeah im hyped for the inland empire restoration. gonna try to see it in theaters |
Hyperion1001
04.25.22 | one of the reasons i like it so much is the weird texture the SD digital cam gives everything, so i just hope they can preserve that in the upscale. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.25.22 | Lost highway is getting one too. That film was in particularly dire need. |
naughtcturnal
04.25.22 | have the kino lorber edition of lost highway and the label looks like it was printed on a home printer. Movie is amazing but this edition overall really sucks.Glad to see it is getting a new restoration as I think it is among Lynch’s best
Have heard many great things about Inland Empire and am really forward to finally getting the chance to see it
Nicolas Cage karate moshing in Wild at Heart is one of the best things to ever happen in cinema |
Ryus
04.25.22 | yeah wild at heart has a lot of iconic scenes. just goes to show how good lynch is that it's only 7th here |
WeepingBanana
04.25.22 | Haven’t seen em all but it’s gotta go
Mulholland Drive
Eraserhead
Wild at Heart
Blue Velvet
Lost Highway
Fire Walk With Me
It’s been forever since I’ve seen Lost Highway tho. Gotta finally get around to the others at some point |
Ryus
04.25.22 | lost highway is one i need to rewatch. the first half didnt really grab me |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.25.22 | Lost highway is a jarring first watch |
Ryus
04.25.22 | yeah basically all his movies warrant at least one rewatch and get better the second time around |
tectactoe
04.25.22 | Someone close to my own list except for INLAND EMPIRE (which I think is a massive pile of wank) and FIRE WALK WITH ME is top 3. Nice list. |
Ryus
04.25.22 | understandable
and we will see where FWWM will land sometime this week! |
Jasdevi087
04.25.22 | it was the 2nd half of Lost Highway that didn't grab me tbh. fucking loce the tailgating scene though |
combustion07
04.25.22 | For me it's the phonecall scene in Lost Highway. To this day that stands up as one of the most eerie moments ever put to film. If not the most honestly |
rabidfish
04.25.22 | that man is so fucking scary. Was the actor in jail for murder or that's just some movie myth? |
Ryus
04.25.22 | i think he killed his wife or sumn |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.25.22 | Yeah for me it was the second part that lost me the first time I watched lost highway. Switching characters felt jarring. Once you make some sense of it it feels a lot better, making repeat viewings a lot better. Sometimes that movie is my fav lynch. The soundtrack is fucking iconic. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.25.22 | Blake was acquitted of murder but it’s a fishy story. Wiki it. |
tectactoe
04.26.22 | SIX FUCKING CAR LENGTHS! |
neekafat
04.26.22 | Just saw Wild at Heart and reallyyyyy liked it. Probably top 5 Lynch for me |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.26.22 | Wild At Heart, True Romance, and Natural Born Killers ultimate valentines trilogy |
neekafat
04.26.22 | Oooh love that, still have not seen Natural Born yet somehow
WaH looked like something Tarantino watched obsessively in his video store days |
Ryus
05.03.22 | saw FWWM last week. there's a lot about it i love, and it's probably lynch's most depressing film. not upper-tier lynch for me but my feelings are bound to change on a second watch.
i'm four episodes into "The Return" and holy shit dude, it's like every lynch trope i love rolled into one. the first half of episode 3 was peak TV. it's strangely emotional seeing how everyone aged since season 2. the moments between log lady and hawk were so touching. |
Jasdevi087
05.03.22 | can't wait until you get to episode 8 |
TheSonomaDude
05.03.22 | 1 and 2 are 1 and 2, nice that we agree |
Gyromania
05.03.22 | this list has inspired me to go through all of his films in one week. wish me luck |
notagenius
05.03.22 | I watched ERASERHEAD again during the last tec movie discussion and lost 2 pounds because I didn't eat for 2 days due to excessive nausea. even so ERASERHEAD is indeed 1. |
Ryus
05.04.22 | "can't wait until you get to episode 8"
i have heard great things
everything is moving so fast and so slow at the same time i have no idea what is going on |
Ryus
05.04.22 | have fun gyro |
robertsona
05.04.22 | interesting guy but Mulholland Drive is the only one I like, and I have reservations about that one too |
rabidfish
05.04.22 | "everything is moving so fast and so slow at the same time i have no idea what is going on"
lol i had the same exact experience the 1st time. Even though i really liked it at first, it's one of those things that gets massively better on re-watch. Recommend you to give it some time to process it, tho. |
Jasdevi087
05.04.22 | yeah 2nd watch is better cause you know exactly where your expectations lie |
Winesburgohio
05.04.22 | The Return is my favourite thing ever put to film i think |
tectactoe
05.04.22 | "I watched ERASERHEAD again during the last tec movie discussion and lost 2 pounds because I didn't eat for 2 days due to excessive nausea"
Wow, and not even a single thank you !!!! |
tectactoe
05.04.22 | Glad you liked FWWM, Ryus. Figured you would. Honestly not sure why it was so critically panned upon release. I think maybe because people were expecting "closure" and didn't (quite) get it. But, like, have you fucking people ever seen a David Lynch movie before? lmao |
Jasdevi087
05.04.22 | most of those people would have been casual tv audiences who otherwise had no interest in arthouse cinema, expecting some kind of resolute to the cliffhanger in sesson 2. But instead they got a surrealist prequel that takes nearly an hour to actually get to twin peaks, and then was an emotionally confrontational character piece that challenged them to review how they thought about some of their favourite goofballs, further unravelled into metaphysical mumbo jumbo and then didn't even internally resolve any of that either
which makes for a fantastic film, but probably didn't do much for susie and johnny who got hooked on a quirky murder mystery soap opera in 1991 |
kkarron
05.04.22 | This is the first absolutely correct movie list I've seen on this site (even if Mulholland Drive has a stronger emotional connection for me). |
tectactoe
05.04.22 | @jas - even professional / critical consensus was terrible upon release, tho, not just audience / genpop scores. |
neekafat
05.04.22 | "Honestly not sure why it was so critically panned upon release."
@tectactoe I go pretty hard into explaining why I don't like FWWM above lmao |
Ryus
05.04.22 | i get why people dont like it |
Ryus
05.23.22 | UPDATED!!!! i finished the return and it may be my new favorite "movie" so yeah it's number one |
rabidfish
05.23.22 | Yes I finished my 3rd rewatch last weekend. Makes it really hard to go back to regular tv shows, it's so much more interesting and so different |
Anthracks
05.23.22 | not bad pretty accurate. the return is def the best season of television ever. the room for analysis is like nothing i've ever seen |
Ryus
05.23.22 | "the room for analysis is like nothing i've ever seen"
yeah it's insane, i've been thinking about it and reading about it basically every single day since ive finished it. it's everything i wanted from lynch. |
Ryus
05.23.22 | even with all of the hype, "the return" exceeded my expectations. i will be watching it again very soon |

05.23.22 | Yes The Return is a masterpiece and pretty easily his best. My ranking would be something like 1. Twin Peaks: The Return 2. Mulholland Drive 3. Lost Highway 4. Twin Peaks: FWWM 5. Eraserhead 6. Blue Velvet 7. The Elephant Man 8. The Straight Story 9. Inland Empire 10. Wild at Heart 11. Dune |

05.23.22 | The Return and Mulholland Drive are his masterpieces for sure |
Ryus
05.23.22 | the return is like the best culmination of his work i could have hoped for |

05.23.22 | favorite moment/scene?
personally, i gotta go with the sick child and the fat lady in the car, followed closely by all the Sarah Palmer's scenes. Grace Zabriskie fucking knocked it out of the park. |

05.23.22 | Cannot believe people who have actually seen Straight Story yet still claim it’s a weaker cut |
Ryus
05.23.22 | oh man, way too many to name, but off the top of my head:
-the cherry pie scene in the desert w/ the mitchum bros
-ruby's cathartic screaming at the end of a later episode (14? 15? idk)
-everything involving the glass cube |

05.23.22 | All of episode 8, the whole first half of episode 3, uhhh lots of stuff from the last 5 episodes. I’m gonna rewatch soon. |

05.23.22 | ^I must know why you rank Inland Empire so low. |

05.23.22 | If you’re referring to me, I’m not sure how anyone who sat through that movie could not understand why some wouldn’t connect with it? It’s incredibly long, shot on lo-fi video, is his most confusing and off-putting even to fans... I remember liking some things about it, but does not measure up to most of his work, and kind of seems like a very subpar Mulholland Drive. I’d maybe rewatch if it was shot differently. |

05.23.22 | it's a movie with some of Lynch's best visuals, but sadly there's no connecting tissue to it. It's just too lost in itself. I still love it for what it is, but even dreams have more narrative coherence than IE. |

05.24.22 | i would, admittedly, rank Straight Story pretty low in the mix (which isn't to say I don't like it - on the contrary!) but it makes me v. happy that it has ardent supporters |

05.24.22 | "All of episode 8, the whole first half of episode 3, uhhh lots of stuff from the last 5 episodes. I’m gonna rewatch soon."

06.01.22 | Idk how anyone who likes the return can talk shit about fwwm considering return has exponentially more to do with fwwm than it does the og show |

06.01.22 | Windam Earl ruled. But yes he didn’t need to come back |

06.01.22 | What’s even more embarrassing is being such a racist bigot that lynch replaces you with a talking tree |
