| Cave In albums: Ranked
Ranking albums by the metalcore band Cave In, worst to best. (NOTE: Beyond Hypothermia is a compilation so is not included. Also this isn't saying any of their albums are bad; that is untrue. This is simply based on my enjoyment overall and my emotional connection to it, aight, so yeah) | 7 | | Cave In Heavy Pendulum
An album that tries too hard to sound heavy that it often sounds un-organic (a first for the band!!). Also issues with Brodsky's inconsistent vocals and the fact that sometimes song structure never goes where you want it to; it's not BAD, but it could've been better. I think the main problem is the band (or more specifically, Brodsky) goes in the hard rock southernly style (like "Iron Decibels") and his voice sounds awkward. Where there's less twang, the better. (Choice cut: New Reality, Careless Offspring) | 6 | | Cave In Antenna
An album with so many ideas that it sometimes trips over them. Overall a pretty good album, though it gets weak near the end (tracks 9-11) and can be over-stuffed with effects. (Choice cuts: Stained Silver, Seafrost) | 5 | | Cave In Final Transmission
Feels slightly disjointed and a bit rough-sounding (likely intentional), but it's extremely enjoyable and a worthy tribute to Scofield and his legacy. (Choice cuts: All Illusion, Nightcrawler, Strange Reflection) | 4 | | Cave In Jupiter
A pretty fun space-rock-grunge record that expands beyond their sound, featuring sharp production; no second is left un-engaging, though you sorta wish the band expanded upon it more. (Choice cuts: Big Riff, Requiem, New Moon) | 3 | | Cave In Until Your Heart Stops
A genre-bending hardcore-metalcore masterpiece unchallenged in content, technicality and heaviness, though it can be extremely exhausting; fast. Impressive for what it is, regardless. (Choice cuts: The End of Our Rope Is a Noose, Controlled Mayhem Then Erupts) | 2 | | Cave In White Silence
Cave In's most experimental album. Aside from a iffy mix (which is largely dismissible), its a welcome return to the chugga-chugga of UYHS and sees the band hone in their technical skills and contains some of the band's heaviest material to date. Even with the last three songs, they're pretty enjoyable too. (Choice cuts: | 1 | | Cave In Perfect Pitch Black
A cross breed between the band's heavier material and the accessibility of Antenna, Perfect Pitch Black sees the band delivering a schizophrenic and dark album while remaining memorable as hell. Even if the production can be a little flat, the album some of Caleb's best bass guitar. This is what should have been the band's RCA debut. (Choice cuts: Paranormal, Droned, Screaming In Your Sleep) | |
