06.11.22 | get drunk & listen to 'daniel johnston - 1990' |
BlushfulHippocrene
06.11.22 | Have never cried to a song, am a poser. Lovely list idea. |
BlushfulHippocrene
06.11.22 | No Lil Peep? Something you found trawling through his mum's basement, perhaps. |
Squiggly
06.11.22 | More than once listening to The Antlers- Hospice in the past year
A recent one was Antony & the Johnsons- Hope there’s someone |
EphemeralEternity
06.11.22 | Praying to the sky has a nice sombre instrumental but "then we fucked, then she sucked me off twice" kills it a bit. If she had just sucked him off the one time I'd understand, but twice makes it a bit silly |
rufinthefury
06.11.22 | real ones are able to cry for every song on Home Like Noplace |
zakalwe
06.11.22 | Once in 1994.
After Kurt killed himself and unplugged was on the tele. Where did you sleep last night brought the curtain down and the curtain was brought down. I blubbed.

06.11.22 | I'm a total bitch when it comes to music, sad songs ALWAYS get to me. |
keaton_86
06.11.22 | I don't think I've ever cried to a song but after I found out one of my (ex) best friends raped his girlfriend while she was sleeping I listened to slipknot's first album for the first time while I was running and started screaming hysterically. That was a pretty fucked up day. |
EphemeralEternity
06.11.22 | Damn that's heavy in a different sense I hope he got what he deserved.
My cousins ex boyfriend turned out to be abusive and he kidnapped her dog (luckily she got it back unharmed) but I had hung out with him and thought he was a great guy. I was pretty ashamed of my inability to judge their character but that's people for you. |
DoofDoof
06.11.22 | ‘Kid Codeine’ by The Delines nearly got me once this year, that battle against unresolved anger…then you have the even sadder ‘All Along the Ride’ on the same album.
Their song writer Willy Vlautin is a novelist and his books are open invitations to weep, oft labelled ‘misery porn’ - they’re great, lump in throat time. Read his latest this year, the end of that also hit the spot. Similar topic to the song, unresolved shit from your past leading to angry episodes and repetitive behaviour patterns. Very cool book. |

I made a similar list a few years back, Ephemeral, perhaps you'd like to take a look. The first 6 songs are mine. |
keaton_86
06.11.22 | Yeah I knew him for about 15 years. It turns out, if you do MDMA, ket, weed and god knows what else 2 times a week for about 7 years straight, it cooks your brain. After the rape incident he basically had a psychotic dissociative breakdown and tried to kill himself several times. Last year was not fun. |
Pangea
06.11.22 | vali made me cry too hi-five |
Emim
06.11.22 | Memento Mori - Architects
First heard it a couple days after my cousin committed suicide. |
AlexKzillion
06.11.22 | 7 is so true lmao
"Fiction" by Avenged Sevenfold used to get me back in the day... with the Rev eulogizing himself after literally dying.
On a similar note... I teared up first time I jammed Disasterpiece after Joey Jordison's death. Obviously not a tearjerker but of all the musician deaths of the last n years his hit me especially hard after growing up wanting to be him.
I cry maybe once every couple years though like idk even when I'm extremely extremely sad I can't cry let alone to music shit just doesn't work |
Colton
06.11.22 | when I first heard Stepdad by Eminem I laughed so hard I was crying a bit |

Track 5. Best song ever made in Japan, Macaroom will never get this close to perfection.
The lyrics get to me: "A tragedy is just a fleeting mirage in history / The sinking city knows this very well"... |
EphemeralEternity
06.12.22 | Some interesting picks here thank you all for sharing
Remember always choose to cry with laughter not cry with.. cryter |
Shemson
06.12.22 | AlexK - same on Fiction, that was so surreal to hear after knowing Rev wrote that song, titled it Dead and basically went and died straight after
I don’t really get moved to tears purely by songs but there are songs/albums I relate to events in my life like Grouper-Dead Deer album, Dream Theater-Space Dye Vest |
Ectier
06.12.22 | Diaken Amenra, "when i keep my eyes closed im in your arms again, When I open my eyes, im alone again". Amenra is a very emotion fuelled band but Diaken hits hard.
Dissociation, The Dillinger escape Plan- "Finding a way to die alone" When you are struggling and suicidal....yeah.
A flood of light - Rolo tomassi - tears of joy, love, sadness and general feelings overload from a complicated relationship of with a girl I love.
Im an emotional guy so it doesnt necessarily take much for me |

SuzyC
06.12.22 | More than a few Violet Cold songs pierce me deeply. |
ArsMoriendi
06.12.22 | First song to ever make me cry was "Brother" by Alice in Chains, but it doesn't have that affect on me anymore
But it never fails to make me cry when I listen too closely to the lyrics of "John the Fisherman" by Primus, specifically the part where he dies at sea doing what he loves. |
Egarran
06.12.22 | Primus is a very sentimental band |
ArsMoriendi
06.12.22 | I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic, but certain songs like "John the Fisherman" and "Mrs. Blaileen" and hell even "Bob" are depressing and as fuck |

EphemeralEternity
06.14.22 | I had a dissociative disorder that robbed my emotions for a few years where I wasn’t able to cry at all so now I don’t take it for granted

06.15.22 | I don't necessarily cry at sad songs, more at songs that overwhelm me with emotion. No Other One by Weezer genuinely hit so hard that it reduced me to tears, can't explain it. Also Entombed by Deftones. Numb by Marina of all songs too, reaches some insane heights! |

Honestly, just the instrumentals would have done it for me on that day |
syco722
08.13.22 | Okay I went back to listen and realized it was actually Eight by Andrew Bird that made me tear up. The violin solo is what did me in. But Underlands is sick too. |
Dedes
10.20.22 | Wildly late to this list but if ever song in recent memory fucking rammed me it would Counterparts-Whispers of Your Death.
Song is about Brendan Murphy's (vocalist) cat growing weak from cancer and him already imagining the state of life in which Kuma, the boy who was the only thing keeping his depression grounded, dies. Kuma would die 3 days later.
As a lot of my friends family pass from cancer (close friends mom, soon another close friends father) and I grow closer to a girl with severe CKD (only has 1 kidney already due to kidney failure) the gravity of death and what it marks on other people has become a lot more real to me. |
Kusangii
10.20.22 | Dark tranquillity - the minds eye |
JerseyJimmy
03.17.23 | I am also very late to this, but for me it's "I'll Get By" by Pianos Become the Teeth. my grandfather had succumbed to covid, and it was the first song that happened to come on after I learned he'd died. |

“Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury
Because of my wife; she showed it to me because it made her think of me (i fucking dropped to the floor)
And a bunch of others, usually because they make me think of my wife or our kids, and i fucking love them more than anything.
