10.26.23 | i know this isn't really the place for this type of thing, but pls understand that you basically have one degree of separation at most from others in maine, so waking up in the morning is gonna be rough |
Spec
10.26.23 | When fucked up shit is happening it’s good to talk about it, that’s what sputnik is helpful for sometimes. Really scary stuff. |
MoM
10.26.23 | I’m sorry you and many others are going through this. I’m glad you’re safe and I’m hoping for the best. Take care! |
Trebor.
10.26.23 | Goddamn it another one |
nash1311
10.26.23 | Yeah this is mega fucked. When I saw the magnitude my heart sank and I felt sick. Truly awful. Hope the community can pull through |
Dewinged
10.26.23 | Just saw the news, stay safe dude, and I second what Spec said, no better place than Sput to talk it out. We may be many things around here, but if one thing's for sure is that there will always be someone listening, so don't hold back. |
bellovddd
10.26.23 | all the best :( |
unclereich
10.26.23 | horrifying, I hope you and your community can heal. so sorry. |
evilford
10.26.23 | Crazy shit. Stay safe |

10.26.23 | my partner already knows somebody whose kid was shot last night, it’s like i feel “normal” for an hour and then i remember this is the new reality of living here. I truly don’t wish this feeling upon anybody in the world anywhere ever, the whole state feels irreparably violated |
TheManMachine
10.26.23 | MA resident here, very familiar with Maine and been to Lewiston a handful of times. Pretty surreal to have it happen around here, agreed, but I also felt that way about Sandy Hook. Sadly no state is safe from this horror |
SomeCallMeTim
10.26.23 | Been to a number of parts of Maine, really feels like the wild west sometimes when I'm driving way north, largely with how remote it is |
BMDrummer
10.26.23 | i’ve been to lots of different states and stuff and there’s still nothing quite like the isolation Maine has from the rest of the US, it’s basically 2/3 uncharted territory and the last place in the country where you can drive for an hour and not see another car. There’s a lot of introspection and healing to be done here, the face of the state feels maimed |
BMDrummer
10.26.23 | appreciate all the comments btw, i just feel like beating my head against the wall today but i’m gonna find a way to contribute however i can, probably gonna donate blood tomorrow and shit |
Faraudo
10.26.23 | I've always believed that the best thing about Maine is when you leave Maine tbh |
BMDrummer
10.26.23 | i know what you mean because i’ve wanted to leave the state for quite some time, but honestly what was keeping me here was the sense of security i was referring to. doesn’t feel that way anymore |
Faraudo
10.26.23 | Yeah, I can see where you're coming from, it feels earth-shattering when you lose something as essential as that sense of security. Have you thought about moving elsewhere? |
Pikazilla
10.26.23 | is this where maine coons come from |
BMDrummer
10.26.23 | I’ve been thinking about moving elsewhere in New England once I’m done with school, but no serious plans yet. Would love to live somewhere outside of Boston but we’ll see |
Faraudo
10.26.23 | I lived in Portland back in 2015 and have been thinking about moving there since |
Judio!
10.26.23 | It’s been scary following what’s happening in Maine for sure. Im so sorry to hear that this is happening. Stay safe BM |
BMDrummer
10.26.23 | it’s a nice place, my partner has a spot a block away from Congress st so we’re out all the time. Like I said, i’m just praying that nothing but strength and solidarity will come out of this |
ArsMoriendi
10.26.23 | How far are you from Lewiston? Stay safe |
Rowhaus
10.26.23 | Maine actually has the lowest violent crime rate in the country and is #1 in general public safety. I'm not trying to invalidate your experience or anything, but statistically you're better off there than anywhere else. Unfortunately danger is just a part of life. You're not 100% safe anywhere. Wishing you and everyone over there the best of course. |
BMDrummer
10.26.23 | oh believe me I know, that's a big part of why I enjoy living here so much, you can go for walks alone at night without fear. it's hard to imagine willingly moving somewhere that's by default more dangerous.
@ars i'm like 30-40 miles away from Lewiston at any given time, since i split my time between Biddeford and Portland. Maine just has a pretty monolithic identity where you will still likely know plenty of people from every part of the state, so there's a degree of separation at most from most other people in the state |
BookoftheFallen
10.27.23 | oh nice maine, I was in baxter state park a month ago |
rhinocerosmilk
10.27.23 | I run the trail beside the boat launch they found the shooters car all the time. Was just there around 5pm the night it happened. My neighbor worked with one of victims. It’s a sad situation. |
SomeCallMeTim
10.27.23 | Baxter State Park is probably my favorite place on the planet |
