Death From Above 1979 Ranked |
1 | | Death From Above 1979 You're a Woman, I'm a Machine
Could it be anything else? One of the most fun albums of all time and one that solidified my belief that all a band needs to be good is a powerful rhythm section. This is a blast from start to finish and one of the best hard rock albums of the 2000s. 10/10. |
2 | | Death From Above 1979 The Physical World
I can’t believe people were disappointed by this. Sure it’s not QUITE as horny as YAWIAM was, but this grooves just as hard as the debut did instrumentally. It’s an evolution of their sound that worked out near perfectly. 9/10. |
3 | | Death From Above 1979 Heads Up
A bruising little EP that accomplishes the same goals that the debut album did, just a little rougher around the edges. Embraces the more hardcore influences more directly than the debut did. 9/10. |
4 | | Death From Above 1979 Outrage! Is Now
A transitional album from The Physical World’s sound to their latest. In that sense, the track list is pretty split between songs that could fit on either album but don’t mesh too well together. That said, it contains some of their absolute best tracks, as well as a number of their worst. Cracks in the band’s songwriting and sense of direction are starting to show. 6/10. |
5 | | Death From Above 1979 Is 4 Lovers
What is it with so many punk bands hitting 40 and wanting to be The Strokes? I fucking hate The Strokes. There’s a lot of good songs here but some truly terrible ones too. The best part of DFA is their immense talent to groove and the worst material on here is where they leave that element out. 5/10. |
6 | | Death From Above 1979 Romance Bloody Romance
Not ranked but worth mentioning. There’s a couple of duds on here but for the most part these reimaginings are lots of fun. Check out MSTRKRFT too. |
