| Malrun/Boil Ranked
Both are Danish metal bands. Boil specializing more in alt/prog metal, with earlier albums in the vein of Tool. Malrun being more of a mix between prog metal and metalcore. Only including the albums and/or EPs that had Jacob Loebner, the common link between the two bands, on vocals; Malrun has two releases after Two Thrones (an EP and an album) - but on first listen, vocals don't do much for me. | 1 | | Boil aXiom
Boil (as a band) dissolved in September 2013, shortly (~5 days or so) after this album was released, due to "...how tough the music business is to balance with everything else...", and "...to a mix of unfulfilled artistic goals/rewards and various personal reasons...". Sad, as this was an incredibly diverse album - a bit of alt metal, some prog metal, some deathcore, etc. And a pretty big step up from the last Boil album. | 2 | | Malrun Two Thrones
The pinnacle of Malrun - and amazingly, this lineup also imploded at the release of this album, with the band parting ways with Jacob Loebner in June 2014 due to "...incompatible interests in the band". | 3 | | Boil A New Decay
My first foray into Boil. And a superb, consistent, alt metal album. Jacob's vocals are predominantly clean on this album, unlike aXiom and Malrun albums. | 4 | | Malrun The Empty Frame
This is a similar album to Boil - A New Decay. For example, Jacob's vocals are predominantly clean - and the progressive metal tendancies take a stronger hold here. And this album is definitely a big step up over Beauty in Chaos. But doesn't quite surpass Boil - A New Decay. | 5 | | Malrun Beauty in Chaos
A good album - but a bit more of a metalcore album, in comparison to follow-up Malrun releases. Has some stock, softer tracks weaved into the album that reduce the potency. | 6 | | Boil Vessel
An honest start for a great alt metal band. Has a few excellent tracks. | 7 | | Malrun Longest Road To Rome
A humble, early release. Similar to Malrun's Beyond EP (only heard on YouTube). | |
