| Rapin' Good Death Metal!
About 50% of the music I listen to is death metal; or so says my profile. :) Whether that's correct or not is debatable, but there's no denying that I lsten to a shitload of brutal metal. Here are some of my personal favorites. This isn't a definitive list, so don't be surprised if it changes or I happen to mention I like another album more than any of these. The order isn't exact either. | 1 | | Vital Remains Dechristianize
Vital Remains has become everything that death metal is capable of. Throat-ravaging vocals, mindblowing technicality, balls-to-the-wall brutality, and harmonized melodic passages help make their latest album a timeless extreme metal classic. | 2 | | Behemoth Demigod
This album is pretty popular around sputnik, so I'm sure I don't have to do much explaining. I discovered this album some time before the hype set in, and I'm pretty proud of myself for finding such a gem. Behemoth has a sound that hits as powerful as a wrecking ball with an epic, eastern-themed vibe. Definitely their best album to date and a very unique death metal release. | 3 | | Deicide The Stench of Redemption
This album isn't even released until next week, but it's already found a place in my heart. Yes, I'm a pirate, but it's albums like this that make it so hard to wait until the release date. It's heavy as hell with Benton's trademark vocals, but the new guitar duo add melodic breaks and a massive affinity for soloing. | 4 | | Cryptopsy None So Vile
This was the album that really sparked my interest in brutal death. It's completely chaotic and is Lord Worm's finest moment. Slit Your Guts, Phobophile, and Graves of the Fathers epitomize what brutal death metal should be. No band has yet been able to surpass the masterpiece of None So Vile. Thanks to the gringlike riffs, it isn't exactly a light listen. | 5 | | Aborted Goremageddon
Aborted is sort of a guilty death metal pleasure. They're insanely brutal with the most gutteral vocals around, but the riffs flow coherently making it extreme but still very listenable. The down-tempo solos give it the occasional old school throwback while the band pummels listeners with the most disgusting gore themes in the world. | |

09.16.11 | good day to you, Thor. I must say, reading a review of yours is like strolling through a morning forest, through the mist and dew of the coming sunlight. Nothing matters as you walk amongst nature, admiring the life around you, which seems to flourish with upmost serenity. Quietly you stoop to feel the ground beneath your feet before lifting your head to the blue skies, feeling the breath of life filling you. Contemplating those you love bring tears to your mind's eye, reminding you that existence is precious, its happiness fragile. Suddenly life is perfect, and nothing can stand between you and that peace, which you have suffered greatly to obtain - a tranquil sense of the world, in all its beauty, with all its spirit. | Inveigh
09.16.11 | Perhaps the feeling of cool grass beneth your feet or a brisk wind through your hair can recreate the comforting feeling that love is within your grasp, but only a sense of true unbecoming can burn away the pain you endure. A mountainside trembles before you, its texture soaked in reason. The streams below flow onward, never peering forth beyond the goal of solemnity. Existence be thy name, and the relaxing sensation of warm acceptance your next of kin. | Metamorphosis
09.16.11 | I thought Deicide got stale pretty quickly. | Inveigh

09.17.11 | its obviously because the capacity of human intelligence seems to limit the capabilities to expand upon any possible creative aptitudes. Indeed, if one cannot even notice the facets that the ingenuities around him are comprised of, how can he be expected to fashion a beast of his own? This inveterate sense of constraint is a great blow to the veracity of mankind’s abilities. It restrains us and holds our minds to the ground below, averting any possibility of rising above ourselves to something greater; something not fathomed by the conventional mind. This concept of seeking to go beyond one’s self, known as “transcendence”, is essentially a gateway to unlocking pieces of ourselves that can lead to some of the most elaborate and significant creations of our world. For many, this quest to transcend and form creations that were once considered unthinkable and overwhelming consumes life. Certainly it is rare to find such people, but when they are found, creative barriers are destroyed. | Relinquished
