Busy Week Not Being Busy
Just got my wisdom teeth out yesterday and was told to take a
week off - all in all not bad. At-
least it wasn't until I thought my Sputnik account was gone for
good yesterday! Just came
back today! Here are some albums I've picked up for my week
of boredom/and or oldies getting
back in the rotation! |
1 | | Tom Waits Swordfishtrombones
I will probably never again make a "dig" list without including one or numerous Tom Waits albums. I've
actually had this for quite a while and am giving it numerous closer listens. The guy is hands down a
musical genius! Here's to getting pumped for his double disc live album in a few weeks and hoping he
tours real soon! FYI - this list could literally consist of every single one of his albums as they've all been
destroying my free time for the last 6 months! |
2 | | Built To Spill There Is No Enemy
I actually went to Newbury Comics last week with the sole intent of purchasing some new stuff for my
"mini vacation" of sorts and found this. Never heard a single song or note played by this band but had
heard good things and found it brand new for $6.99! Sounds pretty cool so far. |
3 | | Sonic Youth Goo
Going to see these guys in about three weeks or less. Have quite a bit of their stuff but decided to pick
up
this and Dirty so I'd have a good amount of their material beforehand. This has only got one
background
listen in and I have yet to listen to dirty. I usually find all Sonic Youth albums to be growers and expect
these two to follow - The Eternal however is slowly climbing up into one of my favorites for this year
(although it's a list that could easily cover 100 albums!). |
4 | | Elliott Smith Roman Candle
When I used to download music way back in the day - I had every Elliott Smith album with the
exception
of this. I finally got around to purchasing them again with the exception of this until now. Have also
yet
to listen but as always expect impressive things! |
5 | | Thelonious Monk Underground
Under-appreciated for sure! This album is undeniable. |
6 | | Sigur Ros ( )
An old friend. Album is incredible. I need to get on top of this DVD that is spoken so highly of around
here
- never seen it! |
7 | | Leonard Cohen Songs Of Love And Hate
Took me a few listens to see how great he really is - this is my second album of his and the transition
seems a little easier. Truly influential. |
8 | | The Beatles Revolver
I've been a huge Beatles fan for quite a while now - and of all their post Rubber Soul albums - I never
quite
understood why many regarded this as their best. Again - when talking about me and the Beatles this
could've than still be considered a classic - just not as "classic" as the others. However with time, this
has
become just as loved as everything else they've done. There will never be another Beatles - period. |
9 | | Converge Axe To Fall
Albums slays. Converge never disappoint. |
10 | | David Bowie Space Oddity
Been looking for this album for upwards of a year and feel as though it could be out of print...? I found
this
at some obscure record store brand new for $8 and have to point out the obvious - it was a complete
steal. |
11 | | Johnny Cash At San Quentin
All of the American series is life-changing. Folsom Prison is also a classic so this had to have followed
suit,
and it does. Legend. |
12 | | Depeche Mode Playing The Angel
Picked up Violator quite a while back and feel in love. Sounds Of The Universe was very good for me
and I
also expect quite a bit from this when I get around to it. Can't believe I put getting into these guys off
for
so long. |
13 | | Between The Buried And Me The Great Misdirect
Gotta admit - as a huge Between The Buried And Me fan this has fallen on the back-burner lately.
Between all the great releases of 2009 and my recent purchasing spree this sorely needs some time
alone
and hopefully it will happen soon. The 4 to 5 times I have listened to this however are very promising. |
14 | | Regina Spektor Far
Picked this album out back about a month or two ago now with no prior knowledge of her music except
word of mouth promotion. While my friends will probably have my head for listening to this (until
maybe
they hear it) that will absolutely not take any enjoyment out of it for me. Spektor really pulls off her
own
thing quite nicely. |
15 | | Tom Waits Mule Variations
So I went against my rule against making lists and included Mr. Waits twice. I can't stress enough how
much of a total genius this man is - and what inspiring music he creates. Once again the entire list
could've easily have just been his discography and would've literally perfectly displayed what I've been
listening to. |
