BigHans
03.26.10 | Little Eazy's gone gone, really wish he could come home, but when you gotta die go bye bye all a little thug can do is cry cry, man I miss my Dogs. |
Inveigh
03.26.10 | 1, 5 and 13 have the same effect on me. also, With Or Without You is playing on the radio in some girl's cube outside my office right now, which is pretty weird.
Some songs that wreck me:
Atmosphere - The Woman With the Tattooed Hands
Atmosphere - God's Bathroom Floor
Aesop Rock - No Regrets
The Gaslight Anthem - Great Expectations
P.O.S. - That One
Bon Iver - Blindsided
U2 - Please
Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism
Mac Lethal - Take Me In My Sleep
Sims - Osmosis
just to name a few :-) |
BigHans
03.26.10 | God's bathroom Floor is great.
Havent heard POS, Mac Lethal, or Sims. I can't believe I left off Re:Stacks. damn. |
Masochist
03.26.10 | The Gaslight Anthem - "The '59 Sound"
Don't know why, but that song just hits home. As does some of Eminem's better songs, like "Rock Bottom" and "Sing For the Moment."
I feel you on Third Eye Blind, as well, except it would be a different song for me...probably "Good For You." |
Athom
03.26.10 | @Masochist: Here's Looking At You Kid is the Gaslight Anthem song that gets to me. |
BigHans
03.26.10 | Red at Night by Gaslight Anthem slays me. |
Masochist
03.26.10 | Oh...just noticed "Wish You Were Here." Absolutely! |
BigHans
03.26.10 | To me the most chilling hip hop song is Staring Through My Rearview by 2pac. |
Inveigh
03.26.10 | from a head full of pressure rest the senses that I clutch, I made a date with Divinity but she wouldn't let me fuck and I got touched by a hazy shade of grey that made me change -- I caught a rush on the floor from the blood in my veins |
Masochist
03.26.10 | Hahaha...sorry I keep spamming your list with comments, but seeing Garth Brooks reminds me of my favorite country songs, like "There Goes My Life" and "Letters From Home."
And Jon Foreman's "Somebody's Baby." If you haven't heard it, check it out:

BigHans
03.26.10 | Yeah I had never head Gods Bathroom Floor before I think it must have been you that rec'd it in a thread of the top 10 hip hop songs, checked it out, it owned.
mascochist, I like list spamming, checking out somebodys baby, pretty good song. |

Brokenjewel
03.26.10 | Johnny Cash - I See A Darkness.
fun. - The Gambler
Thee Silver Mt. Zion - God Bless Our Dead Marines
Those Atmosphere tracks that Inveigh rec'd are great. The song 'Little Man' is good too - a very touching look at the relationship between fathers and sons. |
Inveigh
03.26.10 | word, God's Bathroom Floor was one of the first Atmosphere songs I ever heard, and the lyrics really hit home with some things I was going through at the time. It's not easy to find on album, I happen to have it on my copy of Sad Clown Bad Dub VII, which is a double album with Random Vol. 3 by Mr. Dibbs. Basically, I'm an Atmosphere fanboy haha, I have over 300 songs by them on my iTunes (about 150 of which are on albums that aren't on Sputnik hah) |
BigHans
03.26.10 | The cool thing about Atmosphere is he is from Minneapolis I think. Minnesota ftmfw |
Slipping Away
03.26.10 | P.O.S. is from minnesota too |
BigHans
03.26.10 | Fuck Yeah for the Johnny Cash. I Hung My Head by him is devastating. |
Inveigh
03.26.10 | Minneapolis had arguably the best hip hop scene of the last decade.
Atmosphere, Brother Ali, P.O.S., Dessa, Sims, Cecil Otter (well, shit, I should've just said Doomtree haha), Musab, Eyedea & Abilities, Big Quarters, Crescent Moon, the list goes on |
mmfarva
03.26.10 | Modest Mouse - 3rd Planet
Modest Mouse - Perfect Disguise
Manchester Orchestra - Pride
Manchester Orchestra - A Hot One |
klap
03.26.10 | ryan adams nice! you should listen to cold roses, album's the shit |
BigHans
03.26.10 | Had no idea. I've always been a mainstream 80's/90's hip hop guy: 2pac, dre, bone, snoop, Big, Outkast, Westside Connection, Eazy E, NWA, and really not much else.
Minneapolis further rules because it bred this:
The Hold Steady
Soul Asylum
Prince
Husker Du
The Replacements |
Inveigh
03.26.10 | Don't forget Bouncing Souls! also, the greatest band in history, Morris Day and tha mutha fuckin' TIME!!
P.O.S.'s second album Audition features appearances from the singers of both The Hold Steady and Bouncing Souls.
And Minnesota can also claim Bob Dylan. |
BigHans
03.26.10 | mmfarva: Love me some Modest Mouse, especially Gravity Rides Everything
Klap: Dont think Ive checked out that album. Will have to, I need to get into more Adams. |
BigHans
03.26.10 | Robert Zimmerman, aka Bob Dylan, born in Hibbing Minnesota = a motherfucking Legend. |
Inveigh
03.26.10 | props for knowing his real name Mr. Hans. Best line from Rebel Yellow by Cecil Otter (often called folk hip hop):
don't give a goddamn fuck if the kids don't respect it
my name is Cecil fucking Otter not Dylan goes electric |
Brokenjewel
03.26.10 | I don't know why but the theme tune to the film Sunshine gets to me. Think it's called Sunshine (adagio in D minor)
And Frightened Rabbit kill me. |
klap
03.26.10 | also fun fact, the end of slow show is from their earlier song "29 years"
and yeah cold roses rules, its a bit more alt-country than Gold but some of the songs are just woh and his guitar tone is amazing. |
BigHans
03.26.10 | Jewel - Im getting into Frightened Rabbit, Fast Blood is 4 minutes of rule.
Klap: I love Alt Country, Im sure Ill like it
Inveigh: yeah My dad was a HUGE Dylan fan, worships the guy, I was reared on Dylan from Day one |
BigHans
03.26.10 | And I dont care if this makes me look like a pussy, this song brings people to their knees, this dude can fucking SING.
Will Ferrel did a version of this at the end of Step Brothers.

Inveigh
03.26.10 | interesting, I believe that's our first major musical diffence BigHans. My dad hates Dylan; I was raised on Lynrd Skynrd, Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy and The Who. My dad just didn't like Dylan's vocals I guess? Or maybe it wasn't rockin' enough for him, not really sure. But I do know he wasn't a fan.
Blood On the Tracks has to be one of the greatest albums in music history. |
BigHans
03.26.10 | My dad loves Dylan's lyrics, as do I. His voice is atrocious. One of the main reason Blood on the Tracks is by far my favorite album by him is it is his best singing performance. That, and it has Tangled Up in Blue and Shelter from the Storm.
Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Johnny Cash. Shit I was reared on. |
Knott-
03.26.10 | 29 niiice. not being sarcastic either, although id have different choices. |
BigHans
03.26.10 | Hell yeah Garth Brooks. Other great Brooks tunes that slay are Tomorrow Never Comes, The Red Strokes, That Ol Wind, and The Thunder Rolls
I figured you would like the Verve, Knott. |
Transient
03.26.10 | dude, Wake Up.
YES. |
Brokenjewel
03.26.10 | Dylan is awesome. I heard his recent christmas album, though. I would highly recommend avoiding it like the plague. |
BigHans
03.26.10 | Yeah even a Dylan fanboy like me can safely say about 50% of what he has put out in his career is utter shit. His latest stuff is unlistenable because of his voice. Take a record like Time Out of Mind for example, an absolutely brilliantly written, ominous magnum opus that is extremely hard to listen to because his voice is the worst kind of gravel. |
Brokenjewel
03.26.10 | Yeah, he's not done his voice any favours. Hearing him sing about santa kinda puts a dent in his legend, though. Not sure what he was thinking. |
BigHans
03.26.10 | I think it was pretty much a "you know what, I dont give a fuck what anybody says, I'm Bob Fucking Dylan" moment. |
EVedder27
03.26.10 | dudeeeee so much win |
Golgoroth
03.26.10 | The Gaslight Anthem - Great Expectations
Still Remains - Six and One
Paul Simon - Graceland
mewithoutYou - Disaster Tourism (or pretty much any other song on CFUTF)
Dead Poetic - Molotov
Agalloch - A Desolation Song
Neutral Milk Hotel - Oh Comely
Off Minor - To an Ex & Everything Explicit
Norma Jean - Memphis Will Be Laid to Waste (because of Aaron Weiss' part more than anything)
Saetia - The Poet You Never Were & Some Natures Catch No Plagues
Simon and Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence
Bon Iver - Flume, Skinny Love, & Re: stacks
Underoath - A Message for Adrienne
Anberlin - Dismantle Repair, Paperthin Hymn, & (*Fin)
As Cities Burn - Clouds & Timothy
Brand New - Noro, Sowing Season, & You Won't Know
Death Cab for Cutie - We Laugh Indoors
Jimmy Eat World - Goodbye Sky Harbor
Switchfoot - On Fire
...yeah, a lot of songs make me sentimental. |
Masochist
03.26.10 | On Norma Jean: "Disconnectie: The Faithful Vampire" |
Masochist
03.26.10 | On Garth Brooks - "The Thunder Rolls" is probably my favorite song
On Johnny Cash - It's really cliche to say, but "Hurt" is probably the one that does it for me; not just the song by itself, but watching that video...damn.
Oh...and Coldplay's "Don't Panic," too. |
