| Metal: Best Of '09 - Top 10 (no Order!)
My top rated of '09: you can find my whole list of what I listened to here, external:

After going to their live concert in Philadelphia last year, I must give my praise on this album, they were fucking incredible and I gained a new respect for this band and love for this album! It's fucking amazing. See them live if you ever have a chance. | 2 | | Wodensthrone Loss
Amazing Black Metal debut! I'm going to go ahead and says it's one of the best debuts in at least five years! That good! They use a lot of folk and nature influences intertwined within the music that gives it a beautiful and gripping atmosphere. The power of this album is unquestionable. Very original and fresh sounding yet at the same time sounds very ancient. One of the best atmospheric album of the year | 3 | | Klabautamann Merkur
It is most likely many have never even heard of these guys, and it is really a shame. They have been making some truly great music for years. This is a very unique, refined and fresh release. The music almost verges on the Avant-garde side on many tracks, but always comes back to its crushing Black Metal vocalist and music. | 4 | | Ea Ea II
An incredibly unexpected yet emotionally overwhelming album! This is not the average Funeral Doom release. It is insanely dark and mysterious and almost to a point sinister. Then it changed pace and becomes a thing of beauty that you cannot help to marvel at! | 5 | | Kylesa Static Tensions
Great Sludge Metal, very dense yet satisfying. I had never really heard of these guys before, but I am glad I found them! A truly unique band that uses duel-drummers as its centerpiece for a huge album. | 6 | | Arcana Coelestia Le mirage de l'ideal
Excellent atmosphere in this doom release. Very dense, yet very melodic and beautiful. The mix of growls and clean vocals mesh very well. The usage of Shoegaze in Doom Metal is absolutely mind blowing and original, beautiful | 7 | | Be'lakor Stone's Reach
Amazing MDM, they return again with another epic album full of insane riff changes in every song. | 8 | | Arthemesia a.O.a
A solid Black Metal album, with great atmosphere. Highly recommended to fans of Atmos. Black and Atmos. Sludge. | 9 | | Process Of Guilt Erosion
Amazing Doom! Similar in strength this year to that of EA and Arcana Coelestia's release. Very deep and dark doom metal, but also very beautiful, in the same way 'Warning - Watching from a Distance' is. Get this. | 10 | | Austere To Lay Like Old Ashes
An incredibly dense album, yet one of my favorites of 09'. This album may one of the least accessible for a lot of listeners, and could take some time to truly appreciate, but I assure you, it's worth it. Great Black Metal. | |

04.03.10 | I've only heard 2 and 9, but I liked both. I want to hear 4 | TheSpirit
04.03.10 | 3 is okay, not too great. I love 6 with a burning passion and 8 is good. | zombiepirate57
04.03.10 | 2, 3, and 7 are all faves, though I prefer 3 and 7's previous albums. The more I listen to Klabautamann the more I find to love.
Check out Ikuinen Kaamos if you haven't already. | Edwin
04.03.10 | I really want to hear 4 also, looks great. | combustion07
04.04.10 | I forgot about 9, good album | Thanntos
04.04.10 | Zombie: Ikuinen Kaamos is decent. Fall of Icons is not as good as I hoped it would be im afraid after hearing their Closure EP :(
| Athom
04.04.10 | 4 and 5 are great. I can't stand the vocals for 10, but i love the music. | eternium
04.04.10 | Good on 1 and 5.
However, you are missing Axe to Fall, Wavering Radiant, and other things. | Thanntos
04.04.10 | This is just my top 10 from the last year ;) ie those albums I mainly gave 4.5 too. Axe to Fall and Wavering I gave 4.0 :P Also extremely good albums but I hold these above them from '09.
Redsky: agree the vox on 10 are rough to get by, but either I got used to them, or enjoyed the music so f'in much I kinda put them by the way side. |
