07.01.10 | Have you listened to the title track of #1? It's one of maybe three songs I can stand by Converge. Not bad, actually, but really long, and the vocals aren't really an improvement (there is that bit where they yell out I WANT OUT in clean-ish vocals, though, and that's pretty cool). |
eternium
07.01.10 | I remember when I didn't like Converge.
Then they became one of my favorite bands. |
Winsomniac
07.01.10 | The vocals are just too much for my simpleton brain to handle. I'm really big on vocals that are at least somewhat comprehensible, and while I don't think it's terrible, I definitely can't seem to dig it. I used to be vox in a metalcore-ish band, and I dunno, the range is pretty static even if the idea itself is cool. |
eternium
07.01.10 | I used to hate the vocals too. But then I actually got to where I could hear the music itself and loved how intense and technical it was. After reading the lyrics and actually being able to understand some of what Jacob was screaming, I realized how much emotion he's pouring out. |
Winsomniac
07.01.10 | Yeah, it seems to take a bit of time though, and I personally relate a lot better to what a lot of people call gimmicky posi metalcore/melodic hardcore.
Hundredth, It Prevails, Counterparts, The Ghost Inside and such. Especially IP's lyrics really get me. |
eternium
07.01.10 | Go listen to You Fail Me and Axe to Fall. Then come back to Jane Doe. |
Winsomniac
07.01.10 | Hmmm, interesting proposal. I may have to try it sometime.
Probably will get sometime this week. |
eternium
07.01.10 | Those two albums are five times more accessible than Jane Doe and they're still fucking amazing. |
